Welcome!
[edit]Hello, Khoe0005, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles, Giok Djan Khoe, you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Managing a conflict of interest
[edit]
Hello, Khoe0005. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Giok Djan Khoe, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization, clients, or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{edit COI}} template), including links or details of reliable sources that support your suggestions;
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest ยง How to disclose a COI);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam ยง External link spamming);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. ๐ต๐ธ๐บ๐ฆ FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me ๐บ๐ฆ๐ต๐ธ 22:14, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
You state that you have received many encouragements
[edit]Where have these been received, please? Is this your only account? ๐ต๐ธโ๐บ๐ฆ FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me ๐บ๐ฆโ๐ต๐ธ 07:08, 2 April 2025 (UTC). I see the encouragements on the notices button on the top right. And I received a mail with an invitation to practice editing. And yes, I have just one account. A Japanese Professor told me last month that he launched a wikipedia page for me. when I checked the article I saw the requests for more categories, citations and links. I believe that I am in the best position to fix that. I could have sent the material to the Japanese Professor so that he can work for me but I know that he is extremely busy so I decided not to bother him. Supplying the requested material myself would also be more efficient and I did not think of any violation of the wikipedia practice. I apologise if my actions are not appropriate
- @Khoe0005, please do three things:
- Edit your user page to state that you have a COI with Giok Djan Khoe, see for instance User:Ldm1954 or User:David Eppstein as two examples.
- Use the {{COI edit}} mentioned above to request changes on Talk:Giok Djan Khoe.
- Learn to have a thick skin on Wikipedia. Your page may end up with inaccurate content, and there is not much you can do about that if it is not defamatory.

Thank you for your email
[edit]I conduct all Wikipedia business transparently and on Wikipedia. I may not quote from your email here under the rules which govern us, so may not make a detailed reply. What I can tell you without breaking the rules is that, assuming you adhere to the WP:COI rules the article is available to all editors to edit, whcih includes you. ๐ต๐ธโ๐บ๐ฆ FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me ๐บ๐ฆโ๐ต๐ธ 22:18, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- May I ask you to remove your notice on the nomination to delete ? May I also ask you to remove the notice to submit links, I have the impression that the community thinks that the article is ok. Khoe0005 (talk) 06:45, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
A photo on your article
[edit]Hi Khoe0005,
I noticed that the Wikipedia article about you, Giok Djan Khoe, does not include a photo of you. While of course optional, including a photo makes the article more informative for readers.
Wikipedia has a helpful essay on how to release an image which will be acceptable to use. You can read it at Wikipedia:A picture of you.
All the best, Yeshivish613 (talk) 19:19, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the hint. At this moment I am not really motivated to submit a photo because of the discussions around the COI. Submitting a photo could be seen as editing, a sensitive issue for me. Khoe0005 (talk) 19:52, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- You may upload a photo which you have the right to upload to Wikimedia Commons. Photographs of one's self are generally the copyright of another.
- Ownership or possession of a photo, proprietorship of the equipment used to take the photo, or being the subject of the photo does not equate holding the copyright. The copyright holder is the photographer (i.e. the person who took the photo), rather than the subject (the person who appears in the photo) or the person possessing the photo, unless transferred by operation of law (e.g. inheritance, etc.) or by contract (written and signed by the copyright holder, and explicitly transfers the copyright).
- Evidence of any such transfer is generally required via the process at c:CoM:VRT
- Discussions about COI are old, over. All you need to do is to adhere to the rules. ๐ต๐ธโ๐บ๐ฆ FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me ๐บ๐ฆโ๐ต๐ธ 21:42, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
- Let me check if I understand you well. Since my relation to the subject is now open and clear I can edit the article myself as long as the inputs are neutral and verifiable on internet. Please confirm. Khoe0005 (talk) 21:55, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
Categories
[edit]That's not how categories work. Your article goes in categories for people, not categories for things or subjects. For example, filing a person in Category:Optical devices would not be an assertion that they're a person involved in optical device research; it would be an assertion that the person was literally an actual optical device. And on and so forth: if there were a category for "People involved in subject area", then a person could go in that, but if there isn't a category for "People involved in subject area" then a person does not go in the base "subject area" category as a substitute. Bearcat (talk) 02:45, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- Feel free to file a request at WP:AFCCAT. Science isn't my primary editing area (I'm a film, music, literature and politics guy), so it's not a thing I'm going to take on myself, but you can file a request through the category requests process if you wish. Bearcat (talk) 13:57, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- I just did. Submitted a category request for "Photonic Scientists". I hope that the request will not be rejected because it can be seen as " self promotion " ? Khoe0005 (talk) 14:13, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- Question for Jevansen. I discussed this before with you. My grandfather was born in China, my father was born in Indonesia and I became a Dutch citizen. There is no category for a 2 step subsequent "descents", for Dutch of Indonesian descent and then Indonesian of Chinese descent. However, there is a main category "Dutch of Asian Descent". Maybe that is a better category for Djan Khoe ? Khoe0005 (talk) 23:15, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hi. Unless I've missed it, I don't see references to your paternal ancestry in any of the references in the article? This would be needed, per our policies, to add for instance "Indonesian of Chinese descent". I am happy to remove Category:Dutch people of Indonesian descent, if you don't feel this properly covers your background, or alternatively change it to Category:Indonesian emigrants to the Netherlands. The latter would perhaps be best, as it is for Indonesian citizens (at a point in time) who emigrated to the Netherlands, thus avoiding questions of "descent". Jevansen (talk) 23:29, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Jevansen, I feel that the category "Dutch people of Asian descent" would describe my situation better, instead of " Dutch people of Indonesian descent". Is that possible ? Khoe0005 (talk) 07:35, 8 November 2025 (UTC)

- Hi Bearcat, I see the categories "Recipients of orders, decorations and medals" and "Award winners". Djan Khoe recieved a Dutch Royal Award and the IEEE Distinguished Services Award. Those two categories can be applied ? Khoe0005 (talk) 22:58, 9 November 2025 (UTC)
