[edit]

Dear Professor, I have revised my wiki article, please checkUser:Mcx8202229/sandbox Mcx8202229 🇨🇳❤️ (talk) 12:19, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Mcx8202229 Good progress, but you have not finished addressing the issues I mentioned last time.
Please ensure that the article has a proper WP:LEAD, which is a summary of information in the later sections. Right now your lead contains unique information, such as a legend, or information on its UNESCO recognition.
The first two paragraphs under 'Historical Origin' need footnotes. Also, why historical origin? Is there a non-historical origin?
The heading 'content' is unclear. Content of what? What is the content of this section?
Content from 'content' seems to duplicate that of 'preparation'; both talk about three courses. Merge them.
More blue links are needed: Lunar New Year, Wuyi Mountain, etc.
In Social Impact, it's confusing to hear that the same list was announced twice? Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 05:26, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK, Professor, I have revised the article. Mcx8202229 🇨🇳❤️ (talk) 11:36, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mcx8202229 Good, but you did not finish. Blue links have not been added. Your references are missing much metadata (dates, author and publisher names) Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 12:56, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK, Professor, I have added a new blue link, the references have added the author and time, I have found all the information of the references, but I cannot find the editor for some of them. Mcx8202229 🇨🇳❤️ (talk) 06:17, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Mcx8202229 That's fine, you are almost finished. Can you find some relevant images on Wikimedia Commons to add, or freely licensed/public domain images on the net to upload and add to the articke?
When your translation is finished, you can publish it (move it the mainspace). See Wikipedia:Moving a page for how to do this.
After publishing your article please add categories (see bottom of the original articles for categories and try to add a similar one to your article).
You should also link the article to the original version you are translating it from by clicking the "Add interlanguage links" button - see here for how to to it: Help:Interlanguage links - Wikipedia
When you publish your article in English, please add {{Educational assignment}} to its talk page.
When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, you should make it clear your work is a translation. Read more about this requirement here: WP:TFOLWP . Please add the following template to the article's talk page Template:Translated page.
Please monitor the history of your page as well as your talk page on that project for feedback from reviewers. If your article is declined (moved back to draft/user space) you'll need to address any issues raised in order to republish it. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 05:37, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline 7 (Week 12)- GUAN YUE

[edit]

Dear Professor,

I’m currently taking both Everyday Life and Social Structure and Collective Intelligence in Practice. I’ve now completed the two main Wikipedia translation assignments for the course:

Both were translated from Chinese to English.

In addition, I’ve worked on the following six articles for extra credit:

  1. Wu Shun Tak (zh → en)
  2. Maxim's MX (zh → en)
  3. Maxim’s Bakery (zh → en)
  4. Traditional Chinese sausages (zh → en)
  5. Stir-fried glutinous rice (zh → en)
  6. Judy Wajcman (en → zh)

For the Ukraine Cultural Month activity, I also translated two articles from English to Chinese:

Regarding your earlier comment about the page move for Maxim's Cakes — I followed the procedure outlined at Wikipedia:Requested moves and submitted the request accordingly. An administrator has since moved it to the appropriate Talk page section, and it is now officially listed for discussion and under review. I’m currently waiting for feedback or a decision.

Please feel free to take a look when convenient. Thanks! Uuueol (talk) 06:55, 30 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Uuueol Very good. Double check Porcelain Wars - Wikipedia, the encyclopedia of freedom (zh) since there are some concerns about the style in this article (see the guides for writing in zh that I recently posted on LMS). You are doing excellent job otherwise Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 01:17, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Professor,

I hope this message finds you well. I’m currently taking the course “Everyday Life and Social Structure and Collective Intelligence in Practice”, and I’d like to give you a brief update on my translation progress.

So far, I have completed four main translation projects (from English to Chinese), all of which have been successfully moved to public Wikipedia pages. Here are the links:

In addition, I’ve done five more translations for extra credit, and also participated in the Ukraine Diplomacy Month by contributing two new Chinese articles. Here are the links to those seven entries:

As of now, none of my submitted articles have been reverted or moved to draft space.

Check them one by one.
First, complete the translation by adding the remaining content and references. Remember that all paragraphs need to be referenced, otherwise they will not count for our project and may be deleted from Wikipedia (per our syllabus and Wikipedia:Verifiability).
Second, check your blue links. Check whether all blue links are identical. Make sure you link to relevant articles in your target Wikipedia, not to other languages, when a relevant article exists. When a topic exists in another language than the one you are writing and results in a red link in your target Wikipedia article, you can use this tool to add a link to the original Wikipedia. On Chinese, use zh:Template:Interlanguage link multiStop by my office for help if you need a demonstration on how to use it.
When your translation is finished, if you are creating a new article, you can publish it (move it the mainspace). See Wikipedia:Moving a page for how to do this. If you are expanding an existing article, see WP:MERGE instead.
After publishing your article, if it is a new creation, please add categories (see bottom of the original articles for categories and try to add a similar one to your article).
You should also link the article to the original version you are translating it from by clicking the "Add interlanguage links" button - see here for how to to it: Help:Interlanguage links - Wikipedia

@Xuan6699 Well done. Few things to fix:
Check whether all blue links are identical. Make sure you link to relevant articles in your target Wikipedia, not to other languages, when a relevant article exists. When a topic exists in another language than the one you are writing and results in a red link in your target Wikipedia article, you can use this tool to add a link to the original Wikipedia. On English, use Template:Interlanguage link. Stop by my office for help if you need a demonstration on how to use it.
Several of your links point to a disambiguation pages. To easily see which, go to your preferences and enable the "Display links to disambiguation pages in orange" gadget.
Check the tense. If the company is defunct, it should not describe its services in the present tense. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 01:27, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I certainly see many links that should be added; I've just added one. Others - ex. Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Please add more blue links to important concepts (or links to zh wiki if en article is missing but zh exists). Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 01:30, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello professor,

1. This is my article. I have modified it according to your suggestions. Please check it.

2.These are the 43 Wikipedia entries I edited, please check them out

Thank you! Bai0926 (talk) 11:24, 2 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Bai0926
Your weekly and extra credit edits are very good.
Your main project is also good. Here are some suggestions on how to make it better:
Can you find a better picture on Wikimedia Commons - one that illustrates the superstitions?
References 3 and 9 need to be formatted better (date, author name, publisher name, etc.). Many other references have missing information. Books should contain page numbers, as well as quotation that proves you are citing relevant content. References to academic papers like 5 and 6 should provide the name of the journal. Etc.
Currently, the article has only a short lead. According to WP:LEAD, the lead should summarize the entire article, providing an overview of key points. Right now, it’s just a general statement about superstitions in daily life. Expand the lead to 2–3 paragraphs summarizing: Origins of Chinese superstitions (primitive beliefs, totemism), Historical development across dynasties, Modern perspectives on superstitions, Examples of common superstitions (e.g., feng shui, Ba Zi, sacrifices).
More blue links to important terms are needed: ancestor worship for example. The term Mandate of Heaven is mentioned in a heading only. Add it to the section, and blue link it.
The article does a good job tracing ancient beliefs but says little about how these beliefs function today (except for a brief mention in the lead). There’s no section on contemporary Chinese society, urban/rural differences, or how the government or academia view these beliefs today.
To complete your article, add a final section on Modern Views and Practice: How beliefs have evolved in the 20th–21st centuries. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 01:09, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

About translated article

[edit]

Hello professor, I am a draft reviewer from zhwiki. Recently, I found that some students translated en articles into zhwiki. It's good to contribute from other languages, but some of the transision is lack of quality.

Like zh:Special:Diff/87503143, it's criticized as translationese. Or zh:公民新闻 wrote by @ZHANG0822ZH, I think it is Machine Translation without revising. Additionally, the transision of references' title or author are sometimes unnecessary.

As a reviewer, I hope students can realize zh:Wikipedia:翻译腔 and understand linguistic differences involved in translation. By doing so, we can work together to minimize low-quality translations and improve the overall standard of contributions.

Thanks for reading and please let me know if I can help provide further examples. Sincerely. Kanshui0943 (talk) 16:21, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have finished revising the article and I would like to ask you to review it. I initially used direct translation and ignored the differences in expression habits between Chinese and English. I am deeply sorry for this. ZHANG0822ZH (talk) 05:50, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Kanshui0943 Thank you. I ask the students to follow Chinese guides at : zh:维基百科:翻译腔/城墙, zh:维基百科:翻译腔, and zh:维基百科:翻譯指引 but students being students, not all will do so or do so well. Thank you for your feedback, it is very appreciated. You can see many students reporting their work in this talk page; I expect some will be finishing shortly as the semester is about to end. Deadline 7 (Week 11-12)-jungyuna(정유나)

[edit]

I am a student taking a morning class on daily life and social structures. I re-uploaded this after receiving feedback from the professor. Here are the links to the sandboxes translated into Korean: sandbox1 , sandbox2 Jungyuna (talk) 04:39, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Jungyuna The first article has no blue links. On Korean, use ko:틀:임시링크. Stop by my office for help if you need a demonstration on how to use it.
The second article, in addition to blue links, needs proper references; currently its using some broken code. You need to redo the references there.
After fixing the above issues, if you are creating a new article, you can publish it (move it the mainspace).
When you publish your article in Korean, please add ko:틀:과제 문서 to its talk page.
When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, you should make it clear your work is a translation. Read more about this requirement here: WP:TFOLWP . Please add the following template to the article's talk page - ko:틀:번역된_문서
Please monitor the history of your page as well as your talk page on that project for feedback from reviewers. If your article is declined (moved back to draft/user space) you'll need to address any issues raised in order to republish it. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 13:23, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Continued disruptive editing from a student

[edit]

Hi @Hanyangprofessor2, I've previously messaged you about CHAEBIN99 here, but unfortunately since then they've continued to make large uncited additions like this, and have violated copyright at least three times which you can see in a discussion on their talk page here.

Their edits are their own responsibility, but I'd like to ask that you try to reach out to them one last time. The only alternative at this point would be a report, which may end up with them being indefinitely blocked from Wikipedia. That's a result I'd like to avoid if possible. Thank you. fifteen thousand two hundred twenty four (talk) 02:04, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Fifteen thousand two hundred twenty four Thank you for the ping, and I apologize for my students substandard editing. Unfortunately, while I tried to reach out to them, they have not responded here or in class. If they keep making edits that are problematic, they will need to be blocked, just like any other problematic editor would. This may "wake them up". Or not (I've had occasional cases like this before; some students just shrug and give up, some improve their edits, others discover socking...). Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 05:47, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

About translating the article WANG HAO

[edit]

Hello Professor, this is my second article translated. There are many translation issues, so please instruct me. I have tried my best to get close to the original text, but there are still some differences from it. @Wanhink Next time, I recommend you pay attention to deadlines - you missed most of them, which delays catching errors. First, I noticed that your work is on the wrong Wikipedia (in English Wikipedia sandbox). If you are translating to Chinese, you need to move it to Chinese Wikipedia. Please use your Wikipedia sandbox on the correct Wikipedia and update me when your work is moved and ready for review on the correct platform (with corrected code - links and references).
Make sure you link to relevant articles in your target Wikipedia, not to other languages, when a relevant article exists. When a topic exists in another language than the one you are writing and results in a red link in your target Wikipedia article, you can use this tool to add a link to the original Wikipedia. On Chinese, use zh:Template:Interlanguage link multi . Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 06:10, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Dear student. You forgot to log in and sign your post, so I cannot ping you with notification.
Regarding your zh wiki article, there are some problems to be fixed:
  • Make sure you link to relevant articles in your target Wikipedia, not to other languages, when a relevant article exists. When a topic exists in another language than the one you are writing and results in a red link in your target Wikipedia article, you can use this tool to add a link to the original Wikipedia. On English, use Template:Interlanguage link. On Chinese, use zh:Template:Interlanguage link multi . Stop by my office for help if you need a demonstration on how to use it.
  • You are missing the heading section for references
  • After fixing this, you can publish your article, following these guidelines:
  • See Wikipedia:Moving a page / Help:页面重命名 for how to move (publish) your article.
  • After publishing your article, please add categories (see bottom of the original articles for categories and try to add a similar one to your article).
  • You should also link the article to the original version you are translating it from by clicking the "Add interlanguage links" button - see here for how to to it: Help:Interlanguage links - Wikipedia
  • When you publish your article in English, please add {{Educational assignment}} to its talk page. If your article is in Chinese, please add zh:Template:Educational assignment to its talk page.
  • When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, you should make it clear your work is a translation. Read more about this requirement here: WP:TFOLWP . Please add the following template to the article's talk page Template:Translated page (if the translation is to English), zh:Template:Translated page (if it is in Chinese)
Regarding your English article, I noticed that your work is on the wrong Wikipedia (in Chinese Wikipedia sandbox). If you are translating to English, you need to move it to English Wikipedia. Please use your Wikipedia sandbox on the correct Wikipedia, fix links and references as needed, and update me when your work is moved and ready for review on the correct platform.
Your reference in English Wikipedia should be formatted using the Wikipedia:Citation templates. For an easy how-to, see Help:VisualEditor#Editing_references Please make sure your references that are not originally in English (Korean, Chinese, etc.) have both the original title (under title parameter) and translated one (English, under translated title parameter). Your existing references should be properly formatted with metadata - most are missing author, date, and English (translated) title, for example, and have a wrong publisher listed (such as web.archive.org, which is not the publisher, but an archival service). Deadline 8 -LI MENGCHEN

[edit]

Dear professor,

I am taking Everyday life and social structure at 1PM(class B).I have addressed the issues you mentioned on Wikipedia and finalized the publication. Qiu Hongda The Xi Shangzhen Suicide Case. This task is a bonus item:Hong Kong historiography Please check, thank you. Limengchen2777 (talk) 06:57, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Limengchen2777 Good progress. Here is feedback for your work.
For all articles: When you publish your article in English, please add {{Educational assignment}} to its talk page. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, you should make it clear your work is a translation. Read more about this requirement here: WP:TFOLWP . Please add the following template to the article's talk page Template:Translated page.
Your articles need more blue links. For example, Qiu Hongda mentions important places like National Taiwan University but does not link them. The Suicide... article mentions May Fourth Movement, but there is no blue link. Add more blue links to your articles. Check whether all blue links are identical to the original you translated them from.
For Qiu Hongda, please add Template:Infobox scientist.
Many headings in your articles are too long, and some begin with quotation marks (e.g., "The Founding of the Shanghai Shangbao"). These should be removed unless quoting a specific title. Avoid "floating" headings that look like section epigraphs. Use Wikipedia-style section headings without extra formatting (e.g., no <big> or bolded headings unless required). In the suicide article, better headings would be something like this: Background, The May Fourth Movement and women’s emancipation, Shanghai Press and Tang Jiezhi, Life and role at Shangbao , The iIncident, Legal proceedings and public response, Media and scholarly coverage, Legacy. In the HK historiograpy, your headings are short (good) but they should begin with capital letter. "History", not "history".
Your reference should be formatted using the Wikipedia:Citation templates. For an easy how-to, see Help:VisualEditor#Editing_references. They also should provide URL links if the source is online, and for books, ISBN numbers. This is particularly a problem in the Suicide... article.
Use Grammarly or such to check your articles. There are a few typos and other problems, such as missing full stops at the end of paragraphs. Piotrus at Hanyang| reply here 02:35, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Deadline 5 : Ju Yewon

Deadline 8 -HONG HAOTIAN

[edit]

Dear professor,

I am taking Everyday life and social structure at 1PM(class B).I have addressed the issues you mentioned on Wikipedia and finalized the publication. Nanko Historical and Geographical Society.I have also finished revising the other article.User:Honghaotian/sandbox8Please check, thank you! Honghaotian (talk) 00:33, 11 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Honghaotian Very good. To finish, please do the following: For all articles (once they are published on English Wikipedia): When you publish your article in English, please add {{Educational assignment}} to its talk page. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, you should make it clear your work is a translation. Read more about this requirement here: WP:TFOLWP . Please add the following template to the article's talk page Template:Translated page.
Regarding your not-yet-published article in the sandbox:
  • please find at least one English work that discusses this topic, and use the English name from it for the title of the article and for the lead. And then use that title consistently. Right now, the lead uses "The Surveillance and Registration of Exiles in Taiwan" but the first paragraph, for example, uses a different phrase: "Regulations on the Investigation of Migrants in Taiwan"
  • title should be in bold, see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section
  • The lead paragraph should clearly define the subject of the article and summarize the most important aspects of the topic. Avoid diving too quickly into historiography. Right now, it opens with a misattribution issue. While this is important, start with what the regulation is, then discuss confusion/misattribution. Suggested rewrite of the lead: “The Regulations on the Investigation of Migrants in Taiwan were a set of Qing dynasty administrative rules concerning Han Chinese migration to Taiwan, issued as part of the Imperially Commissioned Revised Regulations of the Six Ministries in the late 19th century. These rules addressed the registration, deportation, and marriage restrictions applied to migrants. Due to later misreadings by 20th-century scholars, especially Inō Kanori, the regulation has often been misunderstood or misattributed.”
  • what is "Taiwan bunka shi"? Such terms, not in English, need to be explained, and their Chinese name given (or blue link to English Wikipedia, or interlanguage link to zh wiki). Use italic formatting for book titles: e.g., The Cultural History of Taiwan.
  • that article needs many more blue links (or links to zh wiki), like your published article. From the topic mentioned above to Qing dynasty or Six Ministries
  • Currently some sections are labeled with unclear headings: ==content== → Should be ==Text of the regulation== or ==Original Qing Regulation== ==The content in the Records of Taiwanese Culture== → Could be renamed to ==Inō Kanori’s interpretation== ==Citation details== → This is really a historiographical impact, consider calling it ==Misattribution and scholarly interpretations== ==Discussion== → Unclear what makes this section different from the previous one. Consider integrating it or renaming it to ==Recent scholarship== or ==Reevaluation by modern scholars==
  • Numbers should follow Wikipedia formatting: spell out numbers one through nine, use numerals for 10 and above.
  • Replace instances of 1. 2. 3. in body text with Wikipedia-style bullet points (*) unless part of a quoted passage.
  • References 3 and 4 seem to be identical?

@Bai0926 Good, you are almost ready to publish. Please format your final citation correctly - it's an academic paper, not a website. For an easy how-to, see Help:VisualEditor#Editing_references. Then add the quotation to the correctly formatted citation.
After that you can publish your article following these steps:
See Wikipedia:Moving a page for moving (publishing) your article.
After publishing your article, if it is a new creation, please add categories (see bottom of the original articles for categories and try to add a similar one to your article).
When you publish your article in English, please add {{Educational assignment}} to its talk page.
When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, you should make it clear your work is a translation. Read more about this requirement here: WP:TFOLWP . Please add the following template to the article's talk page Template:Translated page (since the translation is to English).
Please monitor the history of your page as well as your talk page on that project for feedback from reviewers. If your article is declined (moved back to draft/user space) you'll need to address any issues raised in order to republish it.

My article is now mostly finished and ready for your review.

Here is the link to the article: https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%EC%82%AC%EC%9A%A9%EC%9E%90:ImYeonJin/%EC%97%B0%EC%8A%B5%EC%9E%A5https://ko.wikipedia.org/wiki/%EC%82%AC%EC%9A%A9%EC%9E%90:ImYeonJin/%EC%97%B0%EC%8A%B5%EC%9E%A52

Please feel free to provide feedback on my talk page when convenient. I will respond there to confirm, as required.

Thank you for your time and understanding. ImYeonJin (talk) 05:15, 12 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@ImYeonJin Good, you are almost ready. Please follow these steps to publish your articles:
Double check you blue links. On Korean, use ko:틀:임시링크. .
Can you add some pictures to the article? In particular, the peace flag seems to be missing any images. Ideally, you would find some on Wikimedia Commons.
When you publish your article in Korean, please add ko:틀:과제 문서 to its talk page.
When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, you should make it clear your work is a translation. Read more about this requirement here: WP:TFOLWP: ko:틀:번역된_문서
Please monitor the history of your page as well as your talk page on that project for feedback from reviewers. If your article is declined (moved back to draft/user space) you'll need to address any issues raised in order to republish it.
