Question from BabarQazi on Mir (surname) (21:38, 2 August 2025)

[edit]

Hi I have just added a few of the Rahim Mir individuals of Pakistani origin national sports hero. I'm. Not sure if I have published them adequately for the visibility of the public. Can u please help with that Kind regards Babar Qazi --BabarQazi (talk) 21:38, 2 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @BabarQazi and welcome to Wikipedia. Thanks for the edits. In the case of the names you added to the Mir (surname) page - names should only be added to a page like that when a person already has an article. Unfortunately, you added three names of people who it is unclear that they are referred to as you indicated. For example, "Haroon Rahim Mir" has an article at Haroon Rahim - do you have a reliable source that indicates he was called "Haroon Rahim Mir"? Wikipedia has a guideline called WP:COMMONNAME which basically means we refer to people (or anything really) by the name most commonly used - so we don't have an article titled "Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor", but we do have one titled Elizabeth II. I've left some links on your talk page that might be useful. Feel free to come back and ask me any questions. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 08:09, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

Technical news

    • The community-authorized general sanctions regarding South Asian social groups (GS/CASTE) are rescinded and folded into this new contentious topic.

Question from Lornimouse (05:03, 16 August 2025)

[edit]

Hi, I decided to join because I love the research that I do in my work and I wanted to use my skills to support the admirable project of the encyclopedia. Today I found an article about Michel Serres, a French philosopher I’ve been interested in for a long time, was quite outdated. It didn’t reference a lot of new translations into English that happened since his death. I’d appreciate some help in figuring out how to include those references properly myself. I thought about adding them but chickened out. So I just started a talk topic about asking if the translations should be included in the list of works. --Lornimouse (talk) 05:03, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Lornimouse - welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for taking an interest in building the encyclopedia. Leaving a message on a talk page is as good a way to start as any! A quick observation, Wikipedia articles should be (a lot) less bibliography and more biography, in this case adding material that relates to the reception/reviews of the works that are not part of the article. I left some links on your talk page - feel free to come back and ask me any questions. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 12:23, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Egyptiankeng (19:06, 16 August 2025)

[edit]

When will I be able to edit the blue lock pages? --Egyptiankeng (talk) 19:06, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Egyptiankeng - welcome! To edit pages with a WP:BLUELOCK an editor needs to be extended confirmed - which means an account with 500 edits and older than 30 days. In general, articles with blue locks have them because they are contentious or have been subject to repeated, ongoing vandalism. Be conscious that articles of this nature will be subject to extra attention and changes should only be made with reference to reliable sources. It might be best to begin a conversation on the talk page of the article if you want to make changes that could be considered controversial. Please feel free to come back and ask me any questions. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 06:10, 17 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply. Do the 500 edits have to be for different articles, or do they count as edits for the same article? and Do edits count for articles I write myself that haven't been published yet? Egyptiankeng (talk) 18:54, 17 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Your reply here counts as an edit, it can be anywhere and anything. But the edits need to be genuine - if you try to create 20 edits by adding a comma to an article and then deleting it ten times, this will be considering "gaming" (in particular see WP:PGAME). Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 13:13, 18 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Good close for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/120 Bahadur (2nd nomination)! But considering the history, wouldn't it make sense to temp-SALT the page, forcing the persistent author to go through AfC? Owen× 11:01, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@OwenX I was literally about to leave a message on your talk page asking you for your assessment of the close. Really appreciate your comment. I was in the process of closing, but I encounted an edit conflict, which meant the last part about SALTing got left out, I've fixed the closing comment (I've put a two month limit on creation). Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 11:06, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect. Thank you! Owen× 11:09, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
