Hey Satsuma!
I'm not sure I understand the difference between what I am trying to do for the festival in my city compared to what is reported on for Download Festival or Festival D'ete in Quebec?
I have added many references of external websites, articles that cover the festival. I've added the official link to the festival itself.
In my next years updates, there will be details on Sum 41s replacement due to a back injury in 2024.
Please let me know what else I can provide to help publish this article. Duckmooseduck (talk) 14:58, 6 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies I did misread the references section as there are two styles of inline citations going on!
The notability may still be borderline but I did not assess all of the sources that I should have because of this.
I would suggest tidying up the references section to make sure the inline citations are all consistent (see WP:INLINE) and re-submitting this for review.
Sorry about this! sksatsuma 15:01, 6 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
All good! I appreciate you taking the time to review the draft. I'll tidy up the history section and I'm going to add the 2024 and 2023 with some additional context and references to the festival. Duckmooseduck (talk) 15:07, 6 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent article submission has been rejected and cannot be resubmitted. If you have further questions, you can ask at the Articles for creation help desk or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help. The reason left by S0091 was: This topic is not sufficiently notable for inclusion in Wikipedia. The comment the reviewer left was: Almost all the sources are routine announcements, press releases or otherwise based on those involved with the festival say. In addition, most of the overage is local. S0091 (talk) 18:34, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey!
I am hoping you can make me understand a little bit more as to why this is rejected. Would you have rejected the Halifax Jazz Festival then? How is that allowed on Wikipedia but Area 506 Festival isn't? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halifax_Jazz_Festival
Or what about this one? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cavendish_Beach_Music_Festival
Honestly, I have way more detailed and up-to-date information about Area 506 than what’s written on the Halifax Jazz Festival or the Canvedish page. And I've not even finished the older years yet.
Also, kind of wild that the Area 506 Waterfront Container Village, where the festival is located, has its own page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_506_Waterfront_Container_Village
But the actual festival, which updates annually with new artists and has significant regional impact, gets rejected?
Not sure I understand the thought process here, especially as I have included sources from Billboard.com, CTV & Global which is a Canadian National News organization. If Wikipedia wouldn't block CBC citations, I'd have more national citations from CBC.
Again please help me understand how other festivals of the same size are allowed pages, but this festival isn't allowed, but it's location/site is.
Thanks Duckmooseduck (talk) 18:56, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
We do not make comparisons to existing articles because WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS so each article has to stand on its own merit. There are tons are poor articles that probably should be deleted and also criteria has changed over time so an article created years ago may have met guidelines then but not now. As far as the sources, using Billboard and CNA as an examples, In Billboard the festival a mention and CNA articles are largely based on what those involved with festival say so neither are useful for notability. S0091 (talk) 19:12, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay I did some more digging and I can pull articles from spotlightonbusinessmagazine.com, www.frequencynews.ca, atlanticbusinessmagazine.ca, ca.news.yahoo.com which all have interviews and details about the festival itself. Including interviews with the founder of the festival.
I can pull details from these sites that list about the festival NextMagazine, UniversalMusic.
The sources I was citing were just the easiest ones I could grab that had the clearest information listed. If I update my citations and sources to those outlets, will this be allowed for resubmission?
This festival is the biggest one in our province would be great to add to the Container Village and Saint John page as it's an important piece of arts and culture in New Brunswick. Duckmooseduck (talk) 19:27, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Interviews are primary sources and not independent so not helpful for notability. Wikipedia has no interest in what those involved say. As stated in the declines before the reject, in order for a source to helpful for notability it needs to meet all four of the criteria—reliable, secondary, independent and provide in-depth coverage directly about the topic—and multiple sources meeting that criteria are needed (usually three). On top of that, the guideline for events has additional criteria such as WP:LASTING (I think you have that covered). WP:ROUTINE (this is a problem) and WP:GEOSCOPE (also a problem). S0091 (talk) 19:39, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And to clarify, I don't think every qualifying source needs to meet GEOSCOPE but one does. S0091 (talk) 19:54, 7 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, Duckmooseduck. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. Hello!
I do not have any conflict for the contents of the page. I work in IT in the crisis management sector.
My reasons for starting the page is that I genuinely love the festival and what it brings to the city each year. It's grown year over year and has benefited the city, the surrounding economy and local businesses.
It's a notable festival as it's the only one that is located in a permanent "grounds" that includes vendors, artists and cultural movements from April to October. It's the only festival in Canada that you could jump into the ocean while still seeing the stage.
Let me know if you require any further information around this. Duckmooseduck (talk) 17:03, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Duckmooseduck. All good! Please confirm you have read WP:42 (it's short). WP:THREE (very short) and WP:NEVENT. S0091 (talk) 17:15, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have confirmed that I have read all three articles and a few other articles mentioned within them. Some interesting information on events that are being reported on before they've "finished". Duckmooseduck (talk) 17:40, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
