Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Gguice. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page TP-Link, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Amigao (talk) 23:35, 13 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I was not aware of the COI policy previously but now that I am I apologize and disclose that I am an advisor to TP-Link. My edits to the article, however, were all factual and I think they should be considered for an addition to the article. I had originally posted external links to verifiable source information for each of the changes I made, which frankly is why I thought it was ok to make the changes. Now that I understand the concern, I better understand what it is trying to prevent. So, I would like to propose edits to the post regarding the company's break from its former affiliation with the Chinese entity TP-Link Technologies that focuses on the Chinese market (as detailed in the Bloomberg Technology article here: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-04-11/wi-fi-giant-tp-link-s-us-future-hinges-on-its-claimed-split-from-china). Additional evidence of the company's US headquarters is available in this Orange County Business Journal article: https://www.ocbj.com/technology/tp-link-systems-moves-into-new-worldwide-hq/#:~:text=New%20headquarters%20for%20TP%2DLink,23.). I think for accuracy, the article could explain that its origins were China, but in 2021, the company divided to form a U.S.-based entity TP-Link Systems based in Irvine California that focuses on the US and rest of the world and TP-Link Technologies Co. Ltd., located in China and focused exclusively on Mainland China's market.
If you think this may be a path forward, I am happy to explore how to comply with the strict standards of Wikipedia to get the record straightened out on this point. Gguice (talk) 21:23, 15 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to see if you had any updates for how we may get this changed Gguice (talk) 20:03, 22 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Greenman was:
This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

This submission does not appear to be written in the formal tone expected of an encyclopedia article.
