Women's Suffrage in Uruguay/Cerro Chato
[edit]Hi Fadesga! Do you have additional sources for your Cerro Chato article for "The most peculiar fact is that, for the very first time in Latin America, women were allowed to vote."? - @Elleauren11: thanks for pointing this out. Well, this deserves a cross-examination. Every day we learn something new! OK, the very first woman to vote in Latin America was Matilde Hidalgo, who had to fight for her right to vote on that special occasion; and this happened in 1924. On the other side, in the 1927 Cerro Chato referendum, women were legally allowed to vote (without any "exceptional" fight taking place). Maybe that is the main difference.
