DCWC August update

[edit]

We're a month into the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest, with stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard already! Our current top five contestants are:

  1. Spookyaki (submissions) – 256 points, mostly from a handful of GAs about women's history in Latin America as well as the 1991 Haitian coup d'état.
  2. vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) – 229 points, back with a number of articles on abortion in various African countries.
  3. simongraham (submissions) – 213 points, mainly from GAs on species of jumping spiders in both Africa and Azerbaijan.
  4. El Salvador PizzaKing13 (submissions) – 200 points, with five GAs on articles relating to Salvadoran politics, history, and griddle cakes.
  5. Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) – 168 points from a few GAs, a few DYKs, and a few ITNs on athletes from a variety of countries.

Looking for ways to climb up the leaderboard yourself? Help out your fellow participants by answering a few review requests, particularly the older entries. Several more nominations needing attention are listed at eligible reviews, and highlighed entries receive a 1.5× multiplier!

On behalf of the coordinators, we'd like to thank all the participants for helping to combat systemic bias on Wikipedia! If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). St. Francis School, Harmu

[edit]

Hi Easternsahara. I saw this edit you made to the article St. Francis School, Harmu and I also saw what you posted on your user page. Just for reference, anyone can WP:DEPROD an article at anytime, and they don't need to give a reason for doing so. Of course, it's great when they do so and Wikipedia wants them to do so, but they're not required to do so even if their de-prodding of the article seems to be being done in bad faith. So, for future reference, if some de-prods an article you prodded for deletion, you shouldn't re-add the prod template; you should instead nominate the article for deletion via WP:AfD if you still feel it needs to be deleted. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:12, 4 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Removed PROD at List of MTV slogans

[edit]

I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}} tag from List of MTV slogans, which you proposed for deletion. I don't think the case for PROD is quite clear enough given the overlap of slogans covered by the main MTV article. The article is definitely not strong enough to stand in its current state, but perhaps is better merged than just deleted?. If you still think this article should be deleted, please do not add {{proposed deletion}} back to the page. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! WikiCup 2025 September newsletter

[edit]

The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:

Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.

In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).

Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges – Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), Frostly (talk · contribs), Guerillero (talk · contribs) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs) – are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck!

Wikiprojects

[edit]

Hi there, here via [1]. Just fyi when you're adding articles to wikiprojects, biography articles often don't belong in subject-specific projects. Books, literature, and arts all only take biography articles under limited circumstances or not at all. Cheers. -- asilvering (talk) 18:56, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the notice, I will check the WikiProject's rules on including biographies next time. 🇪🇭🇵🇸🇸🇩 Easternsahara 🇪🇭🇵🇸🇸🇩 19:12, 2 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

WP:BURLBAD

[edit]

Hello.

Just as a heads-up, please don't refuse draft submissions because citations are only provided as bare URLs. Not saying that you did that for Draft:2025–26 AS Giana Erminio season; perhaps the draft had other issues.

But I would like to make you aware full citations are not required. They're recommended, yes. They're encouraged, yes. They're preferred, yes. But a bare URL still counts as a valid source, and a draft should not be denied merely because citations are bare and not full.

Regards, CapnZapp (talk) 08:46, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please read concerns from myself and other editors involved in this draft opposing any mainspace publication of this draft at this time. The nominating editor should have discussing their proposed WP:CONTENTFORK split with the invovled editors BEFORE submitting it for review by an uninvolved party. Please respond to the comments at the draft discussion. Trailblazer101🔥 (discuss · contribs) 03:41, 13 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi Easternsahara. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits. For more information about when rollback is appropriate, see Wikipedia:Rollback § When to use rollback.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the permission will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, and feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate use of rollback. If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin) and Wikipedia:Rollback. Good luck and thanks! Malinaccier (talk) 13:45, 9 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The reference has been provided

[edit]

My draft Draft:List of Intangible Cultural Heritage elements in China was not successful to be submitted. And I do not understand why you wrote "This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources.". They are all given the source. The list is based on [2]. For the descriptions, I searched the sources from the Internet. There are currently 19 ref. HerrGutmannsWiki (talk) 10:33, 10 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There are currently that many references but not all listed items have references. This is in violation of our verifiability policy Thanks, 🇪🇭🇵🇸🇸🇩 Easternsahara 🇪🇭🇵🇸🇸🇩 13:28, 10 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I ensure that Draft:List of Intangible Cultural Heritage elements in China has enough references. The list is based on [3], thus it is not needed to add the footnotes everywhere.
Could you please explain more about the current problems of the list? For example, where is not sourced? Where has the factual errors against modern research? HerrGutmannsWiki (talk) 15:16, 13 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

New page reviewer granted

[edit]

Hi Easternsahara, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.

This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:

You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you're not alone! signed, Rosguill talk 16:02, 10 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

DCWC closing update

[edit]

Two weeks ago, the 2025 Developing Countries WikiContest came to a close! After three months of stiff competition at the top of the leaderboard, we have our winners. Bronze Belt Buckle – 3rd place vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions), continuing his work on covering abortion in Africa, comes in third with 692 points. Silver Belt Buckle – 2nd place simongraham (submissions) comes in second with 763 points, largely from a slew of good articles about jumping spiders. And returning to the podium for the second year in a row, Gold Belt Buckle – 1st place Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) takes the Gold Belt Buckle with a mind-boggling 946 points from his series of articles on sportpersons. Congratulations to our winners!

Amazingly, the award for the most countries covered goes to both Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) and simongraham (submissions), who each submitted articles under 30 flags! Bosnia and Herzegovina BeanieFan11 (submissions) also wins for writing the most quality articles (16 good articles). For submitting 16 articles related to El Salvador, El Salvador PizzaKing13 (submissions) wins the award for most submissions under one country. The award for most submissions related to women goes to both Spookyaki (submissions) (7 biographies about women) and vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) (21 related articles). And for the second year, simongraham (submissions) wins for the most reviews, having submitted 21!

Among the participants' contributions were 2 FAs, 5 FLs, 124 GAs, and an uncounted number of DYKs, ITNs, and reviews of every kind! Regardless of your level of participation, every contestant can be proud to have contributed towards a major step in countering the systemic bias on Wikipedia. Every year, millions of readers and editors around the globe use Wikipedia to educate themselves and communicate with others about parts of the world that often receive less attention than they deserve. Thank you for participating with us in the contest and contributing to this effort. The DCWC will return next year, and we look forward to seeing you contribute again! However, before that...

We need your feedback! Join the conversation on the talk page to discuss your reflections on the contest (even if you didn't participate!) and help us make it better.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page or ask one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). Speedy deletion nomination of Free Palestine

[edit]

Hello Easternsahara,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Free Palestine for deletion, because it's a redirect that seems implausible or is an unlikely search term.

If you don't want Free Palestine to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!
