I have a sneaky suspicion that I know who the account holder is. A warm welcome! BTW, "minor edit" has a very specific meaning on Wikipedia (have a read at Help:Minor edit if you wish) and in short, the moment you add or remove any content, even if it's just a single word, it's not a minor edit. Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Upcoming event in Auckland

You might be interested in an upcoming event in Auckland. Wikimedia Aotearoa is having a WikiCon! WikiCon Aotearoa 2024 is the annual gathering for all new and experienced editors of Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikisource projects. Anyone interested in editing is welcome to attend. This conference is organized by Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand (WANZ). It aims to provide training to new editors, to encourage editors to learn new skills, to grow the Wiki community in Auckland and to ensure that we have a fun weekend. Food and refreshments provided.  

When: Saturday 23 March - Sunday 24 March 2024

Where: Auckland University of Technology - Sir Paul Reeves Building - WG Building 2 Governor Fitzroy Place, Auckland.

Cost: $10, fully catered, sponsorship / registration fee waiver available

We invite you to stand for the WANZ Committee

Kia ora Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand (WANZ) members.

We invite you to consider standing for the WANZ Committee at our AGM 22 April 2024 to help shape and influence events and decisions.

The role of Secretary will be vacant. We are also interested in succession planning for the future.  Please email info@wikimedia.nz for the Secretary Job Description, and the document outlining the relationship and tasks between the Secretary and the Executive Advisor position, as the Executive Advisor is now picking up day-to-day administration tasks from the Secretary. These job descriptions are currently being reviewed by the Committee.

If you would like to come along to a meeting and watch the committee in action before deciding whether to stand please reach out.

Upcoming Edit-a-thon Event in Wellington

Te Papa is hosting an edit-a-thon on Saturday 13 July 2024 between 10am and 4pm. Lunch will be provided. The theme of the edit-a-thon is Te Papa Expeditions and editors will be working on updating wikipedia articles and wikidata on expeditions, people, places, ships, and species. Irene McInnes article

Kia ora, lovely to have a chat about this article at the weekend. You made a great start on the article and it was good we could find a citation for her marriage. To explain some of my edits: I've removed the information about the organisation and sport as that is appropriate for an article on the organisation and sport, but not in a biography. A biography is focused on the person's life and achievements. I also reorganised the paragraphs to "biography" and "personal life"; I put her birth and death dates after her name at the start; I added categories for years of birth and death. And, there was information about the beliefs/opinions of the other two women who co-founded the organisation with her, so I removed that as this article is only about McInnes. The World Destubathon

Hello. You're invited to participate in The World Destubathon. We're aiming to destub a lot of articles and also improve longer stale articles. It commenced yesterday on Monday June 16 and will run until Sunday July 13. There is over $3300 going into it, with $500 the top prize. If you are interested in winning something to save you money in buying books for future content, or just see it as a good editathon opportunity to see a lot of articles improved for subjects which interest you, sign up on the page in the participants section if interested. Even if you can only manage a few articles they would be very much appreciated and help make the content produced as diverse and broad as possible!
