Trouted

Whack! You've been whacked with a wet trout. Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly. |
You have been trouted for being silly enough to ask to be trouted ๐บ๐ฆ FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me ๐บ๐ฆ 18:10, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

Specific names
[edit]Hi, from the discussion on my request to delete Barilius pectoralis I have an inkling that some clarification on how species names work might be helpful. I did not know this until I started editing articles on Wikipedia and anither editor explianed this to me. I may be completely wrong about that but anyway.....
A species is described by a biologist, Anders Andersen, and it is assigned it to a genus, say Johnius smithius A. Andersen, 2025, another biologist, Bertrand Beauchamps, studies this species and finds that it should be in a different genus, Jamesius, so the species name is changed to Jamesius smithius (A. Andersen, 2025). The species is still the same, it is the same name smithius and relies on the validity of the original species description. The name of the author in parentheses indicates that the genus has been changed. Quetzal1964 (talk) 11:00, 10 February 2025 (UTC)
