Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Balkans or Eastern Europe, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

- Can you tell us what topics you are interested in writing about, if unblocked? --DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:40, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- In response to PhilKnight: Thank you for considering my appeal. If unblocked, my primary interest lies in contributing to articles related to **Caucasian history, especially Circassian (Adyghe) and North Caucasian medieval and early modern history**. Based on reliable sources I have studied, I could help improve or create articles on topics like the Russo-Circassian alliance, specific historical conflicts in the region (e.g., in the 16th-18th centuries), and notable figures. My goal is to write neutrally, cite proper academic sources, and collaborate with other editors to ensure quality. Circassian bubuzuan (talk) 14:46, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- That's what I was afraid you'd say. So far all your creations in that subject area have been deleted, at least some as hoaxes. It has also been noted several times that your referencing and evidence of notability are very inadequate.
- Eastern Europe is a contentious topic area, where standards are enforced strictly. Moreover, northern Caucasus is at least adjacent to Armenian-Azerbaijan topics, which are under even stronger restrictions (so much so that you are not allowed to edit in that area until your account is extended confirmed, which you are nowhere near yet).
- I know you were blocked for using multiple accounts, and I'm happy to accept your assurances that you won't continue doing so. However, I'm concerned that if I were to unblock you, you would simply continue editing the way you have until now, and that would only get you into trouble and most likely blocked again. I won't decline your unblock request, though, I'll let another admin take a view in case they have a different take on this. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:57, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- In response to DoubleGrazing: I understand. My goal here was to share the history of my people. I realize now that my methods were wrong. I respect your work and the decision you or another admin will make. Sorry to have disturbed you. Circassian bubuzuan (talk) 15:08, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
- (Non-administrator comment) I know this is probably disheartening, but it doesn't mean that you can't edit at all. There's the Wikipedia:Standard offer, where you edit at another Wikipedia project for six months or so (providing you're not blocked there) in order to build up a history of productive editing.
- You can then submit another appeal, which has a much better chance of success now you have proof backing you up. You can find a list of projects by clicking here.
- That said, if you need AI to write properly in English, perhaps you might be better working exclusively at a Wikipedia in your native language? There are hundreds on the link above. Blue Sonnet (talk) 20:20, 11 December 2025 (UTC)

- (Non-administrator comment) I think the main concern is that editing English Wikipedia requires a high degree of fluency in the English language.
- If you need to use tools to edit (be it AI, LLM, Chatbot or translation software), you won't be able to accurately judge whether a source is reliable, whether the standards of neutrality are being met, whether promotional language is being used or whether copyright is being infringed.
- These skills are hard to learn for native English speakers, if you can't write complex English unaided then it's probably not a good idea for you to edit this version of Wikipedia. There are hundreds of other Wikipedia projects for you to choose from, however. Blue Sonnet (talk) 19:01, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
