Yesterday, I learnt from the younger of my two sons that, unbeknownst to me, someone had recently created a Wikipedia page for my late wife, Wangarĩ wa Nyatetũ-Waigwa. Today, in my first attempt at editing for Wikipedia, I made a few corrections to that page. My question involves Alliance Girls' High School, where Wangarĩ and I taught together and were married. On Wangarĩ's page, the name of the school is in red (not blue), and when I click on it, I get a message saying 'The article you're looking for doesn't exist', even though there is indeed a Wikipedia page for the school: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alliance_Girls_High_School. How can I get it to link up properly from my wife's page? Thank you for your help, Christopher Stone --Vasanji (talk) 21:19, 28 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Vasanji It appears to be linked correctly. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 01:12, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, it is now, but it wasn't working for me earlier. Thank you for investigating. Vasanji (talk) 01:46, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
WikiCup 2025 September newsletter
[edit]The fourth round of the 2025 WikiCup ended on 29 August. The penultimate round saw three contestants score more than 800 points:
BeanieFan11 (submissions) with 1,175 round points, mainly from sports-related articles, including 17 good articles, 27 did you know articles, and 9 in the news articles
Arconning (submissions) with 1,090 round points, mainly from articles about athletes and politicians, including a featured article on Philippines at the 1924 Summer Olympics, 9 good articles, 28 did you know articles, and a wide assortment of featured and good article reviews
AirshipJungleman29 (submissions) with 854 round points, mostly from a high-scoring featured article on the Indian leader Rani of Jhansi and two good articles, in addition to 13 featured and good article reviews
Everyone who competed in Round 4 will advance to Round 5 unless they have withdrawn. This table shows all competitors who have received tournament points so far, while the full scores for Round 4 can be seen here. During this round, contestants have claimed 9 featured articles, 12 featured lists, 98 good articles, 9 good topic articles, more than 150 reviews, nearly 100 did you know articles, and 18 in the news articles.
In advance of the fifth and final round, the judges would like to thank every contestant for their hard work. As a reminder, any content promoted after 29 August but before the start of Round 5 can be claimed in Round 5. In addition, note that Round 5 will end on 31 October at 23:59 UTC. Awards at the end of Round 5 will be distributed based on who has the most tournament points over all five rounds, and special awards will be distributed based on high performance in particular areas of content creation (e.g., most featured articles in a single round).
Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges – Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), Frostly (talk · contribs), Guerillero (talk · contribs) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs) – are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck!

Question about Dispute Resolution/RFC
[edit]I got involved in a discussion on the Tolkien Fandom page. I know I posted a lot and was possibly rightfully accused of bludgeoning, but I was also really just trying to respond to the specific initial concerns with additional better sources and context and it just seemed like that was completely ignored and people only kept addressing the original proposal. I suggested that there should be a broader RFC to try to get agreement on what the consistent criteria for inclusion should be, but one of the main editors there seems to be stating the entire conversation is off-limits for me now. Doesn't that go against the dispute resolution process? newsjunkie (talk) 09:17, 31 August 2025 (UTC)

The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting will commence on 15 September. Question from Bdarensbourg (01:12, 7 September 2025)
[edit]Hi I’m Brittani Darensbourg, I’m a poet and writer. I recently wrote my biography on here and I wanted to upload a picture of myself to go with the biography, can you help me with that?
Also, I requested to change my username because it’s not full name, how long will it take to get it approved? --Bdarensbourg (talk) 01:12, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Bdarensbourg unfortunately Wikipedia doesn't write articles about everyone--we only write articles about folks who are notable. Generally, that means coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. Have you received news or media coverage? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 01:49, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
Question from TheThrasher666FromHell (17:13, 9 September 2025)
[edit]I submitted and article ... where can I find it? --TheThrasher666FromHell (talk) 17:13, 9 September 2025 (UTC)
- TheThrasher666FromHell You can find it at Draft:Terravore(band). It is unlikely to be approved unless you can provide adequate sourcing to prove that it is notable enough for inclusion in Wikipedia. We don't write about everything. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 17:41, 9 September 2025 (UTC)
Your thoughts would be appreciated. I fail to see how this could be declined and not result in a UTRS ban, but YMMV. Giraffer (talk) 13:07, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Giraffer I'm generally opposed to UTRS bans except for in cases of actual abuse of UTRS, like harassment, insults, etc. Just submitting a bad appeal shouldn't be grounds for a ban imo, because it should be easy to just decline. But that's a broader, more philosophical musing :) I agree that this one is an easy decline. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 15:49, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
- Re a UTRS ban: I totally get that. Will see what the consensus on the ticket is. Cheers, Giraffer (talk) 17:10, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
Question from WujekLeon300 (16:12, 11 September 2025)
[edit]Hi, I have just submitted my first wikipedia entry, and I wonder if I might have made some mistakes in it... --WujekLeon300 (talk) 16:12, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- @WujekLeon300 Yes, a few things. You need citations to reliable sources. IMDb is not a reliable source. Merely linking to the websites of a place, without specific coverage of the article subject, is also insuffucient. It will not be approved as an article merely by being in your sandbox, it will need to be submitted to WP:AFC. Even then, the subject may not yet be notable, i.e. suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Lastly, if you know this guy, you will need to declare a conflict of interest (although you may continue editing about him, we just want transparency). Question from DexterDemon5hp (22:16, 22 September 2025)
[edit]Hello! I’m Dexter, and I’m hoping to make a Wikipedia page about a cave I found at a camp site near where I live. I have plenty of info, including the name, the coordinates, the original explorers, and pictures of the cave at various depths, plus a picture of the plaque on the wall outside. However, I cannot seem to find how to make an article. --DexterDemon5hp (talk) 22:16, 22 September 2025 (UTC)
- @DexterDemon5hp well we only write about subjects that are notable. For geological features, there needs to be some independent proof of their existence, per WP:NGEO. We disallow original research, so your own information would not be enough. If you have pictures that you personally took those would be useful, but you still will need external proof of its existence. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n!⚓ 03:55, 24 September 2025 (UTC)

Hello. How do I change my user name? I just want to add a K in my name. DannyKnapp! I doubt I'll ever edit something although I was reading about the guards at the royal castle and it hadn't been brought up that it was now the King's horse guard not the queen's.
