Question?
[edit]Idrk why you did this but why'd you edit my user page, just curious you might say something was wrong with the template but how'd you even find my user page? SpainMMAfan123 (talk) 04:58, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, SpainMMAfan123, thank you for reaching out.
- Wikipedia uses a categorization system which aids its readers and editors. Categorization of a page is done by placing special wikitext: to place a page into category called "Example", the following wikitext needs to be placed into the page:
[[Category:Example]]
- A page can also be sorted in the category, with slightly different wikitext:
[[Category:Example|sort key]]
- On categorized pages, the categories can be seen at the bottom of the page. Different categories are used for different kinds of pages:
- Articles are put into categories based on encyclopedic topics, e.g. Biology.
- Non-article pages are categorized into maintenance categories.
- E.g. for templates: Sports sidebar templates and User templates spa
- Wikipedians can put their user pages into the tree of categories under Category:Wikipedians, e.g. Category:User es-N (
This is a list of Wikipedians who are native speakers of the Spanish language.
) and Category:Wikipedians interested in mixed martial arts. These categories help editors find other editors with particular skills or interests.
- Pages which don't align with the intended contents of a category shouldn't be put into that category. The page User:SpainMMAfan123 has been incorrectly categorized into the Category:User templates spa in the edit Special:Diff/1283063785. This happened because instead of using wikitext
{{User spa-3}}, which would tranclude the template, the whole wikitext of the Template:User spa-3 has been copy-pasted onto the page. - The pages with such incorrect categorization have been found using Quarry at Special:Permalink/1287092647#User pages categorized as a user template.
- If anything isn't clear, I'd be happy to clarify. —andrybak (talk) 21:21, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- The clear intent of the cinema userbox was to place my user page in the category of film fans. (The userbox was adapted from a central source.) Your recent editing did not achieve this categorization, unfortunately. Since you begin a revision process, would you mind completing it? Thanks much. Pac Veten (talk) 15:26, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Not having received a reply after today's unexpected edit to my user page, I have added the 'film' user category directly. If you have any further concerns, please get in touch via my talk page, and I'll be glad to handle any suggestions that you might provide. Thanks much for your help. Pac Veten (talk) 16:30, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Pac Veten, note that Film fan user templates ≠ Wikipedians interested in film. One is a category for templates (removed in Special:Diff/1287834516), the other – for users (added in Special:Diff/1287975731). As of Special:Permalink/1287164610, your user page wasn't added to Category:Wikipedians interested in film.
- Feel free to add your user page to any of the categories in the category tree of Category:Wikipedians. —andrybak (talk) 17:07, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Let's avoid circling where possible in this thread, if you wouldn't mind. Looking forward, if you have any suggestions for improving my home page, just let me know. I'm open to new ideas! Pac Veten (talk) 17:33, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

Please don't pollute Wikipedia with your pedantic insistence that these two diagrams do not belong in Category:Templates for railway lines of the United Kingdom with the thousands of others for UK railways. It is settled consensus[1] [2] [3] that RDTs are a unique class of template that contains content, but on occasion are so large that they exceed transclusion limits are are therefore acceptable in main space. This, however, does not mean that they are no longer (Route Diagram) Templates. Your cooperation in this matter would be appreciated. Useddenim (talk) 04:11, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- User:Useddenim, if they exceed transclusion limits, they cannot be transcluded. First two sentences of Help:Template:
A template is a Wikipedia page created to be included in other pages. Templates usually contain repetitive material that might need to show up on a larger number of articles or pages.
- They are not included in other pages. The material in them cannot be repeated on other pages.
- They fail at being templates. —andrybak (talk) 04:20, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- This is a case of WP:IAR. Your personal opinion and slavish insistence on adhering to general guidelines is WRONG. Useddenim (talk) 04:29, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Useddenim, readers would be surprised by this category on these pages, because it has a thousand actual templates, while all other non-hidden categories lead to articles. Editors who are looking in this category for templates won't be helped by these pages being in the category, because these pages are handled as an exception, and cannot be used as templates (side note: corresponding Template:East Coast Main Line and Template:West Coast Main Line are already in the category).
- How does keeping these main namespace pages in this category help anyone improve or maintain the encyclopedia? Without it, IAR shouldn't be applied. —andrybak (talk) 05:00, 30 July 2025 (UTC)

| For all your work on Archiver - I've found it hugely useful! Thanks for making it. Anne drew (talk · contribs) 02:58, 11 September 2025 (UTC) |
- Thanks, I didn't make the script, though. The original author is User:Σ. User:Enterprisey maintained the second iteration. I'm just the maintainer of the latest fork. —andrybak (talk) 11:43, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
