Add option to skip automatic formatting from current_awards?
[edit]Would it be possible to add an option to skip automatic wikilinking of entries in the current_awards field?
The current behavior isn't compatible with piping wikilinks, and it'll create red links if there's no article for the entry.
Every other place in wikipedia trusts editors to add wikilinks when appropriate, so I'm not sure why this one field does it automatically.
I understand changing the existing behavior would break lots of existing infoboxes, but could an option be added to skip the automatic wikilinking?

- Give an example of where this isn't working please. Gonnym (talk) 20:02, 27 April 2024 (UTC)
- It was showing incorrectly in Good Food Awards from the article's creation until today (when I removed the usage of the current_awards field) because of the attempted use of piped wikilinks.
- Previous version of the article showing how it was showing incorrectly here: [1].

- Niether the previous edit nor your fix is using the parameter correctly. Usually when something is broken, the correct fix it is to the data, not the template.
|current_awards=as can be seen in British Independent Film Awards, is to link to the article of the current edition of the awards, not a random collections of words. Gonnym (talk) 02:57, 28 April 2024 (UTC)- I acknowledge that the parameter wasn't being used as intended by the previous author, and now that I understand its purpose, I agree that a change to the template isn't merited.
- I beg to differ that my (admittedly hacky) "fix" wasn't using the parameter correctly (as my fix was to not use the parameter whatsoever), and that the article contained a "random collection of words" (it's a list of award categories). But that's out of scope for a conversation about this template.

- This exact topic was discussed directly above, in the section "current_awards and piped links". - Burner89751654 (talk) 03:58, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

Infobox military award parameters
[edit]It looks like not all parameters from Template:Infobox military award/doc were properly transferred to Template:Infobox award/doc following the merge on 27 March 2020. For instance, |established= is missing. Can someone solve this problem and add missing parameters to the current template documentation? Russian Rocky (talk) 20:31, 17 January 2025 (UTC)

Final award and last awarded
[edit]Recently there has been a change that is listing what were previously described as "last awarded", are now reading as "final award", I can't get to revert to "last awarded" category following the infobox guide. How do I fix this problem? Final Award reads like the award is no longer presented, which is rarely the case. i.e. | final_award = or | lastawarded = --> ColonelLight (talk) 06:34, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- The last awarded field is only intended to be used for awards that are no longer presented. The recent change was made in order to make that clear.
- If you want to add the latest award ceremony for an award that is still being presented, then instead you should use the separate fields previous_awards, previous_date, and/or holder (which has a customizable label field holder_label). - Burner89751654 (talk) 16:28, 23 February 2025 (UTC), edited 16:50, 27 February 2025 (UTC)
- This change seems to have broken a potentially large number of infoboxes across the project, for example Nobel Prize in Chemistry and Turing Award, just to name a couple I've found, which now say "Final award", giving the impression that the award has been abolished when it hasn't. @Burner89751654: rather than pronouncing that "the last awarded field is only intended to be used for awards that are no longer presented" and then effecting a change that breaks a lot of articles that don't meet your rule, the onus is on you to go through all the affected articles and adjust the infobox before making such a change. Unless I've missed something, and there's more to this change than meets the eye, or a solid effort is made to fix the broken usages, then I am minded to revert it. @Pppery and ColonelLight: FYI. - Fine with me. * Pppery * it has begun... 17:33, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- "Last awarded" is ambiguous. It could mean either the previous award or the final award. I'm ok with changing the label so it doesn't mislead people when the template is misused. But we should also have an option that isn't ambiguous. I'd suggest that we change the label on the "year2" and "lastawarded" fields back to Last awarded. But for the "final_award" field, keep the label as Final award. And in the documentation, we should suggest that people use the "previous_awards", ""previous_date", and "final_award" fields, rather than the "year2" and "lastawarded" fields. - Burner89751654 (talk) 18:44, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

Add ability to embed other modules in a |module= param. This is a standard feature in other infoboxes, e.g. in {{Infobox person}}.
To do this, below | data53, add the following line of code: | data80 = {{{module|}}} (note that "80" is an arbitrary large number; can replace with like "99" or "54" if you want). Also, change | awarded_for }}<noinclude> to | awarded_for | module}}<noinclude> grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 01:12, 2 July 2025 (UTC)
