Let It Be Us is a nonprofit and a licensed child welfare agency in Illinois that works to improve foster care and adoption by recruiting and supporting families for children awaiting placement. The organization manages programs like The Adoption Listing Service of Illinois and The Heart Gallery, helping children find stable, permanent homes by creating comprehensive databases of pre-screened, diverse families and actively recruiting them to meet the needs of children, including those with complex needs or who are older youth.[1]

Events

[edit]

The Be Mine Gala is an annual fundraising event hosted by Let It Be Us to support foster care and adoption initiatives across Illinois. The 7th Annual Be Mine Gala, held on May 9, 2025, at The Wellsley in Chicago's River North, featured handcrafted cocktails, a gourmet dinner, live entertainment, and auctions. The evening also included an exclusive after-party with late-night bites and raffles. Funds raised from the gala support the organization's Open Home Navigator Online Platform, which assists in placing children with foster and adoptive families, and sustain its partnership with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to improve placement rates in the state.[11]

The Toy Drive for Children in Foster Care is an annual December initiative in collaboration with DCFS, CASA of Lake County, and local group homes. The drive collects and distributes toys and essential items to children in foster care throughout Northern Illinois. In 2024, donation drop-off points included the Let It Be Us headquarters in Barrington, Illinois. Items requested ranged from gift cards and building sets to dolls and art supplies, with direct donation options available for supporters unable to shop. The program ensures children in foster care receive gifts during the holiday season, reducing disparities and providing support to the neediest children.[12]
