Draft:Cowboy X

  • Comment: "Gabbi charted in the Irish Top 30" suggests that the band will pass WP:NMUSICIAN. Please check those criteria carefully. The Irish Times is likely to be a decent reference for it.
Of your other references, you must use the original source. You may not use Flicker as a reference anyway, and you may not use images of news items. Please read WP:REFB and note that each of the references you use must pass WP:42 🇵🇸‍🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦‍🇵🇸 07:34, 22 June 2025 (UTC)
  • Comment: I have replaced your obviously AI generated submission template with a real one.
I have looked at the source text analytically and see that your replaced draft still bears many of the hallmarks of AI generation, but I cannot reach a firm conclusion, thus I have left the maintenance template in situ
I have replaced all prior declines. These stay with the draft. 🇵🇸‍🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦‍🇵🇸 07:23, 22 June 2025 (UTC)

Cowboy X is an alternative electronic rock band based in Dublin, Ireland. Active from 2005 to 2010 and reforming in 2024, the band gained attention for their energetic live shows, blending guitar-driven indie rock with synths and programmed beats. They've released six singles, one EP, and one album — all of which received national radio airplay. They also performed at major festivals and appeared on Irish television.

History

[edit]

Cowboy X formed in Dublin in 2005, initially as a collaboration between vocalist Karen McCartney, guitarist David Grealy, drummer John Hanley, and bassist Adrien Garry. Bassist Wayne Gibson replaced Garry one year later.

The band's early singles, Gabbi and Shot Down and Between The Hit & The Miss Their 2006 single Between the Hit and the Miss also received a positive review in Hot Press.[1]

Gabbi charted in the Irish Top 30 and led to an RTÉ television appearance with presenter Michelle Doherty.[2] The band's early success and exposure came largely through Myspace, where they amassed close to 200,000 plays.

In 2006, Cowboy X released their debut album, Who Are These People?, on Actual Size Records. The album received strong reviews from the Irish music press. The Irish Times described it as "a surprising and impressive debut",[3] while the Sunday Business Post praised its "intelligence and intensity".[4] Hot Press commended the band’s "punk attitude, clever lyrics and sheer sonic punch".

In 2008, their single Japanese Toy was named "Single of the Fortnight" by Hot Press.[5] They followed up in 2009 with the single Break Me[6] and the EP Analogue Droids.

Cowboy X performed at festivals and venues including Electric Picnic in 2008.[7] They also appeared on RTÉ’s The Podge and Rodge Show[8] and The Café. In 2009 and 2010, they were invited to perform at NXNE in Canada, though they were unable to attend.

After going on hiatus in 2010, the band returned in 2024 with the single SIC — their first new release in over a decade — and are currently recording a new album.
