Crossrail 2 navbox nominated for deletion

[edit]

I have nominated the Crossrail 2 navbox for deletion. Any comments for or against would be very welcome at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2025 July 6 10mmsocket (talk) 07:16, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Putney Railway Bridge / Fulham Railway Bridge

[edit]

There is a bridge connected to Putney Bridge Station that has always been called Putney Railway Bridge in the local area, but someone put up a plaque after the bridge was repaired, calling the bridge Fulham Railway Bridge. The article for the bridge is currently called Fulham Railway Bridge and says that the architect called it "Putney Railway Bridge" but that it was never officially named, which seems kind of weird to me. Can anyone with access to historical material on London and South Western Railway, the Metropolitan District Railway Line or British Rail please search their sources for anything that can clarify the name of the bridge. Have replied at Talk:Fulham Railway Bridge. Turini2 (talk) 21:12, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

England or UK

[edit]

An editor has unilaterally decided to change "England" to "United Kingdom" in the location field of the infoboxes of various bus articles, such as AEC Regent III, AEC Regent II etcetera. I was under the impression that the relevant country was the preference. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 19:08, 26 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Bus articles and bus article people like your serial wikifiddler generally leave me cold. However, I do think you are right on the preference, but also I think "England" matters given the very different ways that buses are funded/managed/regulated across the four countries of the UK. 10mmsocket (talk) 19:29, 26 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Is there formal guidance on the useage, either way? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 08:02, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello there, thank you answered here. Well, about this topic I wanna clarify these edits:
Firstly (to avoid misunderstanding), the England name isn't removed, but the United Kingdom name is placed since it's the formal name for the country (just like Soviet Union, per example, is listed on location field o the Soviet automobiles, like this one: VAZ-2101; instead RSFSR or UkSSR, which are country members, just like ENG/SCOT/WAL/NI are for UK). So, in almost every British vehicle articles (cars, buses or motorcycles), editors list: "United Kingdom: (name of the city), England" (some remove the England name but placing is better since UK have four member countries, I agree), like on Mini Hatch, Jaguar F-Type or Range Rover (L460) articles (which are examples of most-visited articles about British cars here where UK is listed).
Also, there's not a official rule on Wikipedia who unallows the use of the United Kingdom name on listing (see MOS:GEO - often linked on reverting messages - and WP:BR, who doesn't have a formal rule of either use only UK or England. Both can be used.
Also a Wikipedia:Teahouse discussion about this subject is open for participation.

This is a bit of a funny place to raise an issue regarding infoboxes on articles about buses; I think Wikipedia:WikiProject Transport would be a better place than a WikiProject specifically about England, so as to avoid accusations of forum shopping. I don't have a strong opinion either way, except that I think infoboxes should be kept as concise and as clear as possible.  Mr.choppers | ✎  20:52, 28 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
SoshingekiGoji is now making reverts like this one; the edit summary states There's non-English readers here, who mostly doesn't know where Southall is located. This field is exactly for this purpouse (country/state + city), a curious idea, since anybody who does not know where Southall is merely has to follow the link. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:04, 30 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And since when did the country come before the town/city? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 20:10, 30 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Their latest trick is to use both United Kingdom and England, with one before and the other after, as here. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 07:30, 5 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Always touch out

[edit]

We have over 100 links to alwaystouchout.com but the website is dead. What should we do now? Difficultly north (talk) Time, department skies 20:04, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is also Template:Alwaystouchout.
Update the template and make a request for the others at Wikipedia:Link rot/URL change requests (WP:URLREQ). If it has been archived then the bot can update the links to point to the archived copy. If it hasn't then I think the bot can mark them as a permanent dead link and we'll have to find the information elsewhere. There is a way to get a list of which pages use a source but I can't remember what it is. Thryduulf (talk) 20:39, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a site I used frequently, but it strikes me that it's actually user-generated content - albeit quite well done - and as such shouldn't be used as a reference. Its use as a reference should also be called into question where it is being used to indicate the status of a project given that it hasn't been updated now for over two years. 10mmsocket (talk) 07:15, 18 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

My basic view of Always Touch Out is that it was good for its time, providing news on London transport that was hard to get hold of elsewhere. However, nowadays the official Transport for London channels, for example, are providing all the information that ATO did, and the usual corpus of books such as Day / Reed and Wolmar can generally pick up the slack from earlier than about 2010. In short, I would mark the source as deprecated and work towards replacing it. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:20, 18 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
