Request for assistance

[edit]

Do any of the watchers of this project talk page want to help us understand the meaning of 'defining' and 'non-defining' with respect to applying categories to an article describing a collection of multiple different events? If you do, please join the discussion at Talk:2025 British anti-immigration protests#Bad categories?. -- DeFacto (talk). 13:16, 16 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Monarchies categories

[edit]

Currently, the subcategories of e.g. Category:Former monarchies of Africa are a mix of set categories and topic categories. It would make sense to split it. But what should become the new names of the split categories? Marcocapelle (talk) 06:11, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Year-book categories

[edit]

I have been tidying some of the year-book categories (e.g. Category:2012 books) and usually the books left outside the subcategories are Bibles, catechisms and so on. Would it be a good idea to have "year-religious books" categories? These could include not only the left-over books but also books in other categories - history of churches, religious poems etc. Robina Fox (talk) 08:48, 4 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed a lot of the categories contain surnames in the category and not just specific families which I think makes the category less useful. Category:Irish families is a particular outlier with 245 pages contained within, mostly surnames. Surname categorization by location is already covered by Category:Surnames_by_continent and its descendants.

Should surname pages be moved out of the families category? D1551D3N7 (talk) 03:32, 20 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
