Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Shark gods
[edit]
A tag has been placed on Category:Shark gods indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 19:34, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
Categorising culture
[edit]I notice you're adjusting many categories on articles that involve "culture", but I suspect you have a somewhat narrow view of what "culture" actually is. "High culture" may perhaps be restricted to fine art forms, opera, literature and the like, but Culture more generally has a far wider definition:
- "Culture (/ˈkʌltʃər/ KUL-chər) is a concept that encompasses the social behavior, institutions, and norms found in human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, attitudes, and habits of the individuals in these groups.[1] Culture often originates from or is attributed to a specific region or location."
Read in that way, I suspect that many of the categories you are removing or changing may well have been just fine as they were. Please take this into account as you proceed. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 15:43, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Chiswick, I'm fairly new so I appreciate any and all feedback. I'm a bit confused as I do believe my edits fall in line with a wide definition of culture. I'd generally say that I remove "culture" categories when they are either being replaced with or the page/cat already contains an appropriate subcat (per WP:CATSPECIFIC. The other general trend I could see you referring to is edits to "culture" categories regarding animals, as the confluence of real life, fictional, and folkloric versions, along with quite varied roles in human culture/interaction with humans, has led me to alot of edits. In both case I'm open to feedback as in the former I realize there can be cases where a parent cat is defining alongside one of its subcats and in the later I still find I'm learning and adapting as I learn about different animal cat trees.
- Anyway, any further feedback is appreciated, regardless of whether these are actually what you were thinking of. WinstonDewey (talk) 20:09, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
Hello!
[edit]You mentioned in the orangutan AfD that you're quite new. This is (I think) my first time nominating an article for deletion, and you've been here about four times as long as I have, so we're in the same boat on that one. One tip: when changing your !vote, it's often a good idea (though not required by any means) to strike out the old !vote (usually just the bolded bit, not the whole comment) with <del>…</del> so it's clear to others reading the discussion (especially the closer) that you changed your mind. Otherwise it can end up being a bit difficult to keep track of everyone's views. lp0 on fire () 21:36, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you, I appreciate the advice. I'll revise it either today or tomorrow. WinstonDewey (talk) 21:37, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
- No problem! lp0 on fire () 21:40, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
