Hi, How can i stop this from happening, A user is putting false information on wiki

- You can revert the incorrect information as you have been doing. Be sure to include an edit summary stating you are reverting incorrect information. You can warn the editor for adding incorrect information. You can use the template for "Introducing deliberate factual errors" for this particular case. Warnings are usually started at level 1 and increase in severity level if the editor repeats the behaviour. If it becomes persistent, for example, they repeat after given a level 4 warning, you can report the issue to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. -- Whpq (talk) 13:06, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response. I see that the user is an IP address so how would it work.
- PS: and where does the warning go ? Bwpeople (talk) 06:42, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- If you can, may you please show me a thread/post/topic where it was done.. Bwpeople (talk) 06:45, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- The warning is placed on the editor's talk page. In the case of the most recent editor that you had to revert, it would be User talk:168.167.26.137. You would the warning {{subst:Uw-error1|article}} replacing "article" withe the article name which in this case is Directorate of Intelligence and Security. -- Whpq (talk) 13:25, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi there, It feels like a wack a mole, since its a new IP address! Bwpeople (talk) 07:13, 1 September 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, indeed it is like that. If a specific article gets too much of this IP vandalism, page protection can be invoked with a request for page protection. I don't thin k it has reached that level yet. -- Whpq (talk) 13:35, 1 September 2025 (UTC)

Copyright from New York State
[edit]Hi, as far as I can tell, the bill you referenced when uploading the headshot of Josh Jensen never actually passed ... see https://legiscan.com/NY/bill/A04453/2023 .
It looks like versions of it overwhelmingly passed both houses, but then it died in conference (to reconcile differences between the House and Senate version). That's how lots of things that nobody wants to be seen voting against die. Everyone votes for them on the floor, but slightly different versions are passed, and then it never gets brought up in conference committee. So nobody ever has to vote against it. --B (talk) 20:40, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not the one who uploaded the image. See User talk:Theguide22#Speedy deletion nomination of File:Assemblyman Josh Jensen Headshot.jpg. Thanks for reviewing and taking action on the speedy deletion request. -- Whpq (talk) 20:58, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- Ah, I see. I misread the history. And I see you already had this conversation with the uploader. ;) --B (talk) 21:41, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

Picture problem
[edit]What is the problem with the pics? It's clearly writed from where are they taken and uploaded. Football Fanatic.sr (talk) 01:22, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- You have provided a URL to the image itself. That provides no evidence of any licensing. You need to provide a URL to the page where the image was used that includes the license statement. You were told this previously. -- Whpq (talk) 01:46, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- Are you joke me something? Now i need to write to authors about licensing or copyrightin or to prove that they are Okay for to be putted on Wikipedia? Are you okay? How i can contact a person? from where i download an picture from internet and upload it here, neither i write it that this is my work, i only took it post and that's all. I also clearly puted links from where i took it and post it, and now i need to write to authors maybe they are not the real authors, many web pages took pictures from other websites, and who know who are the real and true authors, this is a nonsense thing. Football Fanatic.sr (talk) 01:58, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is a freely licensed encyclopedia. The images you upload (with very specific exceptions) must be freely licensed. You have claimed for all of the stadium images that the file was licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 License. If this is not true, then is it is a copyright violation. You can't just add that license to an image you uploaded if you are not the copyright holder unless you can show that the copyright holder has released it under such a license. That is usually done by the copyright holder with a license statement on the page where the image was used. If these is no such statement, then you cannot use it on Wikipedia. This is no joke. Editors who violate copyright will be blocked. -- Whpq (talk) 02:04, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- I put that by mistake (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0.) can you please change it like it need to be? - I think you have not read and understood what I stated above, and the copyright note I placed on your talk page. If these images are not released under a free license by the copyright holder, then they cannot used. -- Whpq (talk) 02:21, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
- How i can know if they are license by the copyright holder, did you read what I write it above? many web pages took pictures from other websites, and who know who are the real and true authors, I suppose that they are licensed by the right copyright holder if they are reachable for every one to get or to download them. Hy how to get confirmeduser attributes in wikipedia ? So that i publish my page without any moderations. --Liamhoof (talk) 12:36, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
- You can create articles in the article spaced when you have become autoconfirmed which happens when your account is at least 4 days old and you have made at least 10 edits. Note that any page you create will still be subject to scrutiny as editors doing new page patrol will still look at it to ensure the page is suitable. Writing an article from scratch is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia. I encourage you to try your hand at editing existing articles first to get familiar with how to edit, and relevant policies and concepts such as a reliable sources before you attempt to create an article. Help:Your first article provides some guidance. -- Whpq (talk) 13:37, 29 August 2025 (UTC)

Question from Drakejohn45 (14:49, 29 August 2025)
[edit]I am wanting to make a page for a musician that I work with that doesn't have an existing page. where do I go to do that? --Drakejohn45 (talk) 14:49, 29 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. As you desire to create a page for somebody you work with, I've left a welcome message on your talk page with information about Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy. When you create the article, you will need to do it as a draft and submit it for review through the Articles for creation process. Any article on Wikipedia needs to meet the Wikipedia inclusion criteria which is usually referred to here as notability. This notability needs to be established through significant coverage in independent reliable sources. Creating an article from scratch is quite a challenge on Wikipedia. I highly encourage you to edit existing articles to get a feel for editing Wikipedia. Help:Your first article provides some guidance on writing your first article. -- Whpq (talk) 14:56, 29 August 2025 (UTC)

Question from Thecewilliams (06:28, 2 September 2025)
[edit]How do I create an article? --Thecewilliams (talk) 06:28, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- Help:Your first article provides some basic information. Writing an article from scratch is one of the hardest things to do on Wikipedia. I encourage you to try your hand at editing existing articles first to get familiar with how to edit, and relevant policies and concepts such as a reliable sources. When you feel ready to create an article, you should create is as a draft and develop it there until you feel it is ready. At that point, you can submit it to Articles for Creation where an experienced editor can review it. -- Whpq (talk) 12:24, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
File:Pi Delport.jpg
[edit]Hi Whpq. What do you think about File:Pi Delport.jpg? It's just being used on someone's userpage, but some of the older versions might not be "own work" per se based on they're described on the file's page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:48, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- It's definitely not own work. Those versions would need confirmation of license from the photographer, otherwise those versions would need to be deleted as unused non-free content. I suggest you ask the editor if they wish to go through the process of license verification for the images. Given they are user page images, the editor may not want to bother. -- Whpq (talk) 13:48, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look. I've tagged the file with
{{npd}}
and left a corresponding notification on the uploader's user talk page. If they respond, I will try to explain things in more detail to them. I decided to take this approach because the uploader appears to only edit sporadically, and it's not clear when they'll be back again. If file ends up beong deleted before they respond, I'll go back and add another message below the notification (including stuff about WP:REFUND) to clarify what happened and why. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:20, 3 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look. I've tagged the file with
File:Beyond Skate.png
[edit]Hi Whpq. I'm assuming that File:Beyond Skate.png was being used in the article Beyond Skate prior to it being deleted per A7. Given that the page has already previously deleted per A7 three times since 2009, I'm guessing that an acceptable article about this topic is unlikely going to be created anytime soon. So, even though this skate shop exists and would probably OK to keep locally under either a {{PD-ineligible-USonly}}
or {{PD-logo}}
license, the file probably will remain orphaned for the foreseeable future. Is there, therefore, any real reason to keep it? Should it go to FFD or is there a CSD that would apply to it? -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:57, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
- There is no CSD that would cover this. I don't think it is a useful file that should be transferred to Commons. Deletion of this unused file would be uncontroversial, so you could use PROD instead of FFD. -- Whpq (talk) 12:39, 4 September 2025 (UTC)
Hello! I've set up an account primarily to make some suggestions to one page - it's not high-volume, but there are, I think, some inaccuracies which have been picked up across the web given Wikipedia's authority. I think the process is pretty straightforward, but if there's any specific guidance (and if I need to wait for some time before suggestion edits after creating the account), I'd be grateful for any help.
Thanks! --ZhengShen (talk) 10:58, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia. It's the encyclopedia that anybody can edit so I encourage you to be bold. Make sure your edits or suggested edits are backed up with reliable sources. If the edits you want to make are in a contentious topic, you will need suggest your edits via an edit request, again backed with reliable sources. A contentious topic area is not the friendliest environment for a new editor, if the edits you want to make are in such an area, it might be a good idea to get familiar with editing Wikipedia by editing in a non-controversial area to get more experience editing. I hope this information helps. Cheers. -- Whpq (talk) 12:10, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

Question from MD.Zahurul Islam (SCSC) on Draft:Sirajganj Collectorate School and College (06:47, 7 September 2025)
[edit]how to save file in wikipedia during writing? --MD.Zahurul Islam (SCSC) (talk) 06:47, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi and welcome to Wikipedia. The ability to upload files on the English Wikipedia requires that your account be autoconfirmed. This means your account must be at least 4 days old and have made 10 edits. Once you are autoconfirmed, you can use the File upload wizard to upload and save a file. You should be aware of Wikipedia's image use policy before uploading images. Also, the image should be freely licensed. If you are unsure of licensing, you cann ask me, or get help from Media Copyright Questions or the Teahouse. Your user name indicates that you may be affiliated in some way with Sirajganj Collectorate School and College. Is that the case? If so, you have a conflict of interest and need to proceed more carefully. This is especially true if you are being paid. -- Whpq (talk) 12:09, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
Criticism of Apple Inc.
[edit]Dear mentor: today (finally) I have had my first editorial conflict. I added to the 1st paragraph of this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Apple_Inc. the following statement with references:
The term "Bad Apple" applied to Apple, Inc. refers to the company's numerous and long-standing ethical controversies, which stand in stark contrast to its public image as a paragon of innovation and corporate responsibility.[1] [2] [3] [4]
Someone deleted my addition with the following comment: GSK talk contribs 85,591 bytes −684 Reverted 5 edits by ApoieRacional (talk): Not an improvement, and some of this feels like a conflict of interest.
I feel, that my addition is important and belongs in the 1st paragraph, because "Bad Apple" became a meme, that this article unpacks below. Thus, it is an improvement. Also, I have no "conflict of interest". My only relationships with Apple is 1) having an iPhone 6S (yes, it is 10 years old and is still running); 2) I used to drive everyday to work pass Apple's HQ in Cupertino.
I also want to note, that the same editor deleted my other comments, which are CLEARLY improvements, such as
"compares" is a better term here, than "contrasts". two "its" in one sentence clause is a poor writing style Improved grammar I fixed several Linguistic errors and added wiki-links.

What is wiki-Standard Operating Procedure for editorial conflicts like this? I do not really care about the Apple article, I just want to learn the process for future cases, when I work on an article, that I care about. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ApoieRacional (talk • contribs) 20:33, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
- The editorial standard for content conflicts such as this is Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. You BOLDly added content. Another editor disagreed and reverted. So the next step is to discuss the disputed changes on the article talk page and come to a consensus for the changes. -- Whpq (talk) 21:43, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
- I'm sorry to bring this to your talk page Whpq, but this edit summary from ApoieRacional is not okay. @ApoieRacional:, do not treat me like this in an edit summary or elsewhere on Wikipedia. You were instructed to stick to the WP:BRD cycle, which you have not, and on top of that, you are conducting unfounded and unnecessary harassment on my name. I will not hesitate to inform WP:ANI if this behavior continues. GSK (talk • edits) 21:25, 11 September 2025 (UTC)

, not to attack me in an edit summary, or edit war in the article itself. GSK (talk • edits) 23:40, 11 September 2025 (UTC) - @ApoieRacional:: An edit summary is for providing information about the edit you made. It really is not appropriate to use the edit summary to accuse other editors of conflicts and only reverting edits. Edit summaries are absolutely not a substitute for a discussion on the talk page. You asked for guidance on the procedure in the case of a content dispute, and I provided that to you. I don't see anything from you on the talk page. Your next step to to discuss the content on the talk page and come to a consensus on what should be added. If you still can't agree, then you need to look at engaging in some form of dispute resolution, possibly at the Dispute resolution noticeboard. @ApoieRacional and GSK: Reverting each other is not an acceptable way of resolving a content dispute. In fact, it is edit warring. Both of you stop it. Go to the article talk page, and use it. -- Whpq (talk) 00:24, 12 September 2025 (UTC)
- I would like to take a moment and formally apologize to you for my part in the edit warring, and for bringing the argument to your talk. I should have opened a topic on the article's talk sooner than I did. In light of ApoieRacional's recent messages on my talk, and their subsequent block for editwarring, I have chosen to withdraw from any further involvement in the article, and I will not be making any more edits regarding the recent "Bad Apple" addition of material. Please accept my apologies for my actions today, and I hope you have a good one. GSK (talk • edits) 02:30, 12 September 2025 (UTC)

Hello! I'm new to editing, and I'd like to know a bit more about the rules regarding formatting, if you would be so kind. Many thanks for considering my request. --Lauquie (talk) 13:48, 8 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi! I've left a welcome message on your talk page with links to basic editing tips. The Manual of style provides information about how articles are formatted and links to guidelines for many, many, many different situations. To be honest, it is likely to be overwhelming to many new editors. The best way to figure it all out is to be bold and start editing articles, and use the same style of formatting that you see in the article. Cheers. -- Whpq (talk) 13:54, 8 September 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, pleased to make your acquaintance. I learned about gadgets from a Youtube video and I wondered whether they're mainly intended for more experienced editors. Also, are there any considerations or precautions I should be mindful of before using them? --Bowyer Bob (talk) 07:57, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
Dear mentor, while working on this article Empagliflozin, I noticed, that most references there are formated in a fancy wiki-style, like [1]
Do you know how such reference style can be auto-generated? I placed references without any hypertext, e.g.: [2]
I understand, that my style is acceptable in Wikipedia, but since I use EndNote to auto-format all references, I (and other wiki-editors) should be able to easily produce wiki-styled references as well, in principle. I contacted EndNote techsupport, and they told me- someone from Wikipedia have to place a formal request with endnote.com, and they can release this new wiki-format for free. Do you know, who can place such as official request? In case of scientific journals, EndNote accepts requests from editorial or publishing offices. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ApoieRacional (talk • contribs)
- @ApoieRacional: I do not who would place such a request to Endnote. You might try asking at the Teahouse. Wikipedia does have reference generating tools available. If you are using the text editor, Wikipedia:RefToolbar/2.0 can be used and the Visual Editor has its own reference tool as well. -- Whpq (talk) 13:28, 18 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Whpq: thank you for getting back. Unfortunately, RefToolbar/2.0 is useless in my case, since all my references are stored in an EndNote database, and I have to use EndNote to generate the output in the right format in a doc.file . EndNote TechSupport told me, that anyone employed by WikiMedia Foundation can place request to create a new output format. Is there anyone, who has an email with @wikipedia.org domain ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ApoieRacional (talk • contribs)

- @ApoieRacional: - They may accept the request from anybody with such an email ID, but that doesn't mean that any random person with such an email would be authorized to make such a request. I really don't know who you need to ask. -- Whpq (talk) 20:24, 18 September 2025 (UTC)

Question from Parthruhil (17:42, 23 September 2025)
[edit]Unable to create my account on wikipedia kindly suggest me. --Parthruhil (talk) 17:42, 23 September 2025 (UTC)
- Your statement does not make any sense to me. You have created your account. It is user:Parthruhil and you are using it to communicate with me. -- Whpq (talk) 17:44, 23 September 2025 (UTC)

Hi, I have been drafting a Wikipedia entry for a company I represent. I understand that this creates a conflict of interest, so I have disclosed it and tried to ensure that all content is factual and neutrally written. A previous review (by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Gheus ) indicated that the sources were not sufficiently independent or reliable. I have since revised the draft and added new citations from secondary sources. Before I resubmit, could an experienced editor please take a look and let me know whether the current draft now meets the requirements for notability and sourcing? Thank you in advance for any guidance. --Bosind (talk) 07:42, 24 September 2025 (UTC)
- You are essentially asking for the equivalent of an articles for creation review. I'm not going to be able to do that. My advice to you would be to look for sources such as newspapers and magazines where the company is covered in some detail. Sources which just mention a school they may run and only mention the company or maybe not mention the company at all are not at all useful for establishing notability. If you have questions as to why your submission was declined, you can ask the editor who reviewed and declined your submission. You can also look to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk as a resource. -- Whpq (talk) 21:36, 25 September 2025 (UTC)

Question from Ktchen&1963 (02:44, 30 September 2025)
[edit]I just interested learning in translation (from English to Chinese). Thanks. --Ktchen&1963 (talk) 02:44, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- It is unclear what you are asking. Do you want to translate Wikipedia articles from English to Chinese? -- Whpq (talk) 03:47, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
File:Saverio-portrait.png
[edit]Hi Whpq. Could you take a look at File:Saverio-portrait.png? There's no EXIF data and no real source provided to verify the claim of "own work", but I'm not finding any indications of the file being used anywhere online. It's a posed photo so it could be a professionally taken shot, I guess, but it could just as easily been taken by someone the subject knows. Do you think this is OK as is? -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:57, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- It looks very much like a studio posed portrait. I would ask the uploader if they are the photographer. -- Whpq (talk) 13:47, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look. The same user subsequently uploaded File:Real-Saverio-portrait.png, which has different feel to it, but also has no EXIF data or real source information. In addition, the "author photograph" caption provided for the photo in Saverio Monachino could be a form of attribution meaning the photo came from the subject themselves. Anyway, I've asked the uploader about this on their user talk and hopefully they'll clarify things. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:39, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
