Bashorun Gaa and Versus
[edit]Hi Versace1608, I came here to ask for advice on an article. I made an article on 9ice's album Versus a while back and I wanted to also make one for Bashorun Gaa. They were released as a double album, so I was considering merging the two into one article. I was thinking that I would name it "Bashorun Gaa and Versus" and having two different sections for the article for Bashorun Gaa and the one for Versus, with the lead section being something like "On 7 December 2011, 9ice released his fourth studio album, a double-disc CD: Bashorun Gaa and Versus." I don't know. What do you think I should do? Should I keep them separate or merge them? OsigbemheEJB (talk) 03:38, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- Hi OsigbemheEJB, thanks for reaching out to me. Are there reliable sources out there that call the album by that particular title? If so, then you can go ahead and rename the article. If not, then you should keep the current title since it is the common name. If you check out other projects that have been released as double albums, the alternative title was only listed in the lede and body. I know Taylor Swift's latest album, The Totured Poets Department, was released as a double album. Perhaps you can check out the article and see how they included info about the secondary release. Hope this helps you out. Versace1608 Wanna Talk? 09:49, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- @OsigbemheEJB: OutKast's album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, was issued as a double album by the record label that released it. It is actually two separate albums packaged together and released as a singular double album. One thing to note is that the title contains both albums. Like I said earlier, if you have reliable sources to support moving the article to a different title, then you definitely should expand the article and move it. Versace1608 Wanna Talk? 10:06, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Versace1608, so I've done some more research and I figured out that Bashorun Gaa and Versus were released simultaneously but aren't exactly a double album. Reviews of those albums were about their respective topic, so I may just keep the articles separate. Only problem about that is the lead section. Both albums are classified as 9ice's fourth studio album. My initial lead section for the Bashorun Gaa article was this:
- "Bashorun Gaa is the first disc of the double album released by Nigerian musician 9ice. It was released on 7 December 2011 by Alapomeji Ancestral Records, alongside Versus, the second disc. The album features a sole guest appearance from Vector and production handled by Tee-Y Mix, Spellz, Sossick, Cheepho, Pastor Child, and Puffy Tee. Bashorun Gaa was supported by the singles "Shakashiki", "Adigun Ojuwonlo", "Attitude", and "Everyday"."
- How do you think I should word it? OsigbemheEJB (talk) 20:23, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
- @OsigbemheEJB: Bashorun Gaa and Versus are separate albums despite reliable sources calling them a "double album". G.R.A and C.N.N have also been called a "double album" despite being separate projects. Its obvious that 9ice likes releasing two albums on the same day. He has done that on two different occasions. Brymo did the same thing in 2021 and reliable sources in Nigeria called 9:Esan and 9:Harmattan & Winter a double album. I think Bashorun Gaa deserves a separate article if it has been critically reviewed. The paragraph below is an example of how the lede can be written:
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Bashorun Gaa is the fifth studio album by Nigerian rapper 9ice, released by Tjoe Records on 12 December 2011. Due to its simultaneous release with Versus, it was labeled a double album. Bashorun Gaa comprises eighteen tracks and features a sole guest appearance from rapper Vector. Its production was handled by Tee-Y Mix, Spellz, Sossick, Cheepho, Pastor Child, and Puffy Tee. The album was supported by four singles: "Shakashiki", "Adigun Ojuwonlo", "Attitude", and "Everyday".

Singles and music videos issue
[edit]Hey Versace1608, I've been working on updating Ijele the Traveler, one of Flavour's albums, and I wanted to ask you about something. You know when artists release albums, they usually release music videos for them afterwards? I've been getting them confused with singles, and I've been thinking about whether or not certain music videos count as singles or not. Flavour is a prime example. He rarely releases them prior to the release of his albums. Like in Blessed (2012) and Thankful (2014) only one single and music video was released before the release of the album ("Baby Oku" for Blessed and "Wake Up" for Thankful). The rest of the songs only got videos after the albums were already out. So my question is: should only the pre-album ones be considered singles, or do the post-album music videos also count as singles? OsigbemheEJB (talk) 22:41, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi OsigbemheEJB, thanks for reaching out. Songs released prior to an album's release are generally considered singles. I personally regard songs that have music videos as singles. Exceptions are when every song on the album is accompanied by a music video. Davido's debut album Omo Baba Olowo and Beyonce's self-titled project Beyoncé (album) are notable exampes. In addition, you can identify songs that are singles by checking to see if they have an Apple Music link outside of the album link. You can also check to see if they were serviced to radio stations. Point of correction, Blessed had two singles prior to its release, not one. Looking at the length of Thankful, the number of singles in the infobox is consistent with albums of the same length. Albums with tons of songs will generally have more singles than albums with fewer songs. Hope this helps you out. I struggled with this for a long time myself and decided to just include songs with music videos to the singles count. The only article I've created that probably needs work is Tiwa Savage's R.E.D (Tiwa Savage album). It isn't reasonable that an 18-song album only had two singles. I will definitely make changes to said article. Versace1608 Wanna Talk? 17:42, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- I was just thinking about R.E.D. I even went over to Tiwa Savage's channel and saw the other videos for "Rewind" and "If I Start to Talk" and was wondering why it wasn't listed. Even on her discography page, which I am also trying to fix, only the lead single, "My Darlin", and "African Waist" were listed as singles from R.E.D. You pointed out that I can check out Apple Music links for them, and while, yes, I have done that before with my article for No Bad Songz, it sometimes doesn't always work. Certain albums that were released at an older date don't always have singles listed on Apple Music, so I often look at reliable sources that talk about them and see if they call their releases "music videos" or "singles". You also mentioned that I could look at if it was serviced to radio stations. I did notice that on the page for Eminado it said it was relesed on October 8th in 2013, but the music video came out on November 4th and I always thought that the single and music video were released simultaneously. Is there a certain source to check if it was released to radio? OsigbemheEJB (talk) 22:18, 26 August 2025 (UTC)
- Singles and music videos are not always released simultaneously. Majority of the time, songs are released as singles before their music video comes out. A lot of reliable sources in Nigeria will only announced when a music video comes out. They won't say that the song was released a single. Even the artists themselves don't say that. I feel like artists and their management team have to specify to media outlets about what songs from their albums they consider to be singles. If they were doing this consistently, there wouldn't be any ambiguity when it comes to how fans and media outlets categorize their songs. Versace1608 Wanna Talk? 10:26, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
- I agree. One example I had seen of a single being released before its music video was Flavour's "Shake" song, released on 20 December 2012 four days before the video's release. Should I just include all the music videos released from Ijele the Traveler? OsigbemheEJB (talk) 20:55, 27 August 2025 (UTC)
