AfC

[edit]

Hi there! I noticed your comments on Giraffer's RFA regarding AfC and wanted to reach out. AfC is mostly run by non-admin editors. If you're interested in learning more about how AFC works, head over to Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Reviewing instructions. There, you can see what all reviewers do, as well as the requirements for becoming a reviewer. Let me know if you have any further questions! Take care, Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 02:27, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, and thanks for the message. I'm planning on applying to become a reviewer sometime in the future, once I know more about the deletion policy and notability guidelines. Opm581 (talk) 08:15, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Natalie Portman edit

[edit]

As requested, I have provided a more detailed argument (with citations of sources) explaining why I feel the section entitled "Advocacy for Israel" should be renamed "Views on Israel" and that the opening paragraph should be reworded to reflect the more complex nature of her views towards her homeland (which is reflected in 3 quotes that I have sourced and provided). 2 editors (Sundayclose and FlightTime) who responded to me expressed support for the proposed change while one (Lililolol) did not. Is this enough to constitute a consensus? If so, whose job will it be to make the necessary changes (I cannot as I do not yet have an extended confirmed account.

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Victor at Zama123 (talkcontribs) 18:21, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't have any experience with determining consensus, so I don't know if two editors supporting and one editor opposing constitutes a consensus. Also, an extended-confirmed user will probably make the changes when a consensus is reached. Opm581 (talk | he/him) 22:51, 11 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmation

[edit]

I hope this doesn’t sound stupid, and I apologize if this isn’t okay for me to ask on your talk page, but what does extended confirmation mean? I posted a support vote in an RfA, and it was moved to a section where users who didn’t have it were. Sorry. Brickto (talk) 09:04, 22 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Basically, an extended-confirmed user is a user who has made at least 500 edits and has been a user for at least 30 days. There are certain pages that can only be edited by them in order to help prevent vandalism, edit warring, etc. Furthermore, last year, voters in RfAs became required to be extended-confirmed due to the consensus reached in this discussion. Also, your question isn't stupid, and it was OK for you to ask it on my talk page. Opm581 (talk | he/him) 09:24, 22 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Opm581 Thank you! Brickto (talk) 23:31, 23 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome Opm581 (talk | he/him) 01:06, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Articles for Creation backlog drive

[edit]

Hello Opm581:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in June!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 1 month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 June 2025 through 30 June 2025.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 3200 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:25, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You are invited to participate in The World Destubathon. It's currently planned for June 16-July 13, partly due to me having hayfever during that period and not wanting to run it throughout July or August in the hotter summer and will be run then unless multiple editors object. There is currently $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize. As 250 countries and entities is too much to patrol, entries will be by user, but there is $500 going into prizes for editors covering the most countries. Sign up if interested! ♦ Dr. Blofeld

Welcome to the drive!

[edit]

Welcome, welcome, welcome Opm581! I'm glad that you are joining the June 2025 drive! Please, have a cup of WikiTea, and go cite some articles.

Cielquiparle (talk) 03:49, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I believe the subject of this draft meets WP:NPROF, point 3 and point 5. He is a fellow of The Obesity Society and was a named chair University of Pennsylvania. The specific criteria notes on NPROF say that "for documenting that a person has been elected member or fellow, publications of the electing institution are considered a reliable source." Therefore, I have used the TOS official website for this. HRShami (talk) 05:21, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll approve the draft. Sorry for initially declining it. Opm581 (talk | he/him) 05:35, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I should have done a better job to indicate notability clearly in the draft. Thank you for taking out the time to review it. HRShami (talk) HRShami (talk) 05:45, 5 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

June Backlog Drive is almost over!

[edit]
Our pending drafts!

Hi! Thanks for participating in the Articles for Creation June Backlog Drive! We've done amazing work so far, dropping the backlog by more than 2000 drafts already. We have around 1500 drafts outstanding, and we need your help to get that down to zero in 5 days. We can do this, but we need all hands on deck to make this happen. A list of the pending drafts can be found at WP:AFCSORT, where you can select submissions in your area of interest. Thank you so much for your work so far, and happy reviewing! – DreamRimmer 01:33, 25 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • July 9–15 - Call for candidates
  • July 18–22 - Discussion phase
  • July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
  • The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

You're receiving this message because you signed up for the mailing list. To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the list.

Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Discussion phase

The discussion phase of the July 2025 administrator elections is officially open. As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 18–22 - Discussion phase (we are here)
  • July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase
  • July 30–c. Aug 3 - Scrutineering phase

We are currently in the discussion phase. The candidate subpages are open to questions and comments from everyone, in the same style as a request for adminship. You may discuss the candidates at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Discussion phase.

On July 23, we will start the voting phase. The candidate subpages will close again to public questions and discussion, and everyone will have a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's totals during the election. You must be extended confirmed to vote.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last approximately four days, or perhaps a little longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (you may want to watchlist this page) and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and must also have received a minimum of 20 support votes. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").

Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Administrator Elections | Voting phase

The voting phase of the July 2025 administrator elections has started and continues until July 29 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Voting phase.

As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:

  • July 23–29 – Voting phase
  • July 30–c. Aug 3 – Scrutineering phase

Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.

Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for approximately four days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page.
