Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Roadhousecovers. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Secretlondon (talk) 19:38, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or website, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Secretlondon (talk) 19:39, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I understand that I chose my username poorly, but I am not affiliated with any of the companies or individuals involved in the making of Road House or its soundtracks, including Jeff Healey. The movie is older than I am and Healey died before I ever learned of him or the movie, I merely noticed that the Lost Soundtrack album is absent from the band's discography. I lost the login information for my previous Wikipedia account so I created a new one and gave it the first name that came to mind. I can see how the name sounds like I'm affiliated with someone, so I'd be happy to change it, I only wanted to appeal to make clear that I'm not trying to advertise or promote anything. It's not the only topic I intend to contribute to, but the soundtrack is from a well-known movie, and does have covers of well-known songs done by a well-known band, so I think it's a reasonable gap to try and fill. Trying to be brief but happy to discuss further. Hoping I can both change my username and not be labelled an advertiser. Roadhousecoveras (talk) 23:36, 7 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action, or you have not responded to questions raised during that time. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that
  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.
Please read the guide to appealing blocks for more information. voorts (talk/contributions) 00:27, 27 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Looking at your edits, it seems to me you've made a few newcomer mistakes that have been considered promotional based on your username. A primary one is that sources used on Wikipedia should be reliable and independent of the subject. Citing the album or the band's official website is generally frowned upon. Moving forward, can you commit to using better sources? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 03:48, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
