Varieties of English
[edit]I have reverted your page move of Defence of Iwardo as it is contrary to WP:ENGVAR - the article was started in British English in June 2020, so it should remain in British English, especially as there is no obvious American association to the article content. - Arjayay (talk) 18:08, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
- I would encourage you to look at the ongoing GA review if you haven't already. The other article closely associated with it, Defense of Azakh, which is made by the same person, uses the other type. I moved it to be consistent. TheBritinator (talk) 18:57, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
- What do the sources say about these? Do they tend to use the British or American variations, if the events they're about are similar and connected in time (which I believe they are) -- surely it would be best to go with that, rather than enforcing some arbitrary cross-article consistency? LivelyRatification (talk) 13:03, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- Excellent point. @Surayeproject3, since you're the one with access to the offline sources, may you be able to answer this? You said before that you wanted British English. TheBritinator (talk) 13:09, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- In the review I stated I would've preferred the article to be Defense, but that it wasn't a huge dealbreaker. Gaunt (2006), Gerçek (2014), Çetinoğlu (2017), Dolbee (2023), and these English online articles (Seyfo Center, Svenska Dagbladet, SOUF, Armenian Mirror-Spectator) use defense with an S. Lingius (2015), Gaunt/Atto/Barthoma (2017), Talay and Barthoma (2018), Gaunt (2020), and Akdemir (2023) use defence with a C. So there's about an even balance, but based on the sources, it's probably better to stick with defence with a C. Surayeproject3 𖢗 13:45, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
