Charles Beare pic? - Someone nominated Wild. Comment or ALT perhaps? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:54, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Beare done. Storye book (talk) 09:18, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Matthew Wild ALT done. Storye book (talk) 09:44, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for both! - Today's main page has again memories of three people who died, for two just the name and for the third an image (great!) coupled with a little bit from her life which seems too little for my taste. What do you think? - A friend of mine sang (bass, Dessoff Choirs) in Verdi's Requiem at Trinity Church, - you can watch the lifestream (Verdi about 30 minutes into it). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:01, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the links. I enjoyed the Verdi, and your bass has a lovely voice. It's a pity that his mic wasn't working - I could hardly hear him, although the other singers could be heard OK.
- Regarding the Frischmuth discussion - sorry I arrived too late to contribute to that. However I did strongly agree with Naruto on that occasion. I think that if an influential person - whoever they are - says something that might do some good in the world, then they should be given a platform, and DYK is a platform. The world is in dire straits in respect of the environment, right now. Certain world governments (including in my own country) are knowingly and greatly damaging our environment right now. As I write, the cardinals are choosing a new pope in the Vatican, and it would really help if they choose someone who can take another look at Genesis and decide whether animals really exist only for us to eat. So yeah, I think that that hook was hooky, and it told us that Frischmuth counts. Just my opinion. Storye book (talk) 08:15, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- My friend was singing in the choir, - not the soloist ;) - Frischmuth: perhaps you misunderstood, see the nom. I agreed to the species thingy, but disagreed to "trimming" the word "novelist". I thought I said so, twice. As I saw today a merciful soul had restored it, but I went by my first view in the morning, credit on my talk and on the article talk (which in the meantime I changed to the archived version). I had company for days and am travelling now for more days, sitting at the airport. I have a RD last day again, look for my name on WP:ITNN. You could give him a pic alt ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:07, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry that I misunderstood you. Again I have arrived at the party too late, so I could not find your name on the link. Please give me a link to the article where you need the alt? Thanks. Storye book (talk) 07:48, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- No problem, he's on the main page --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:15, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
- I'm not sure who you were talking about? I could only find Charles Beare on the main page, and his ID image already has an alt. Help? Storye book (talk) 08:24, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Christfried Schmidt --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:23, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Recommended reading today the one: a story about patience. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:35, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- I have done the alt for Schmidt, but cannot make it work with mouseover. Storye book (talk) 08:52, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- I listened to the Schmidt composition. Powerful! Storye book (talk) 08:58, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you! - Vakhtang Machavariani pic? Actually his father could also use one. Will get to infobox. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:42, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
- Machavariani done. Will look for the father. Storye book (talk) 11:18, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
- Aleksi Machavariani (the father) done. I love those old glass-negative sepia photographs. The Soviets retained the old technology for a long time, compared with Western Europe. Beautiful. Storye book (talk) 11:39, 10 May 2025 (UTC)

CB misconceptions
[edit]This is what CB changed. CB doesn't changed anything w.r.t. to your subcriptions or whatever special access you have to anything. Maybe there was a bot that screwed with those, but it wasn't CB. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 19:53, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes there was a bot which totally locked me out of the sources by changing the links to take readers only to the paywall page. I can't afford to have that happen again, because I need to repeatedly check the sources. The worst thing is when the bots remove the page and column details, so that I can never find the source again. Those 19th-century newspapers are just one big wall of text in small writing, and it's just impossible to find things without the column and page details. If you say that CB is OK, then it's OK. But there are other bots which are not OK. Storye book (talk) 20:34, 10 May 2025 (UTC)
