I understand the reason for the block and now have read through everything to understand better what the writing needs to be like. I don't know what to do at this point to request an unblock? Can you help direct me? Thank you Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 18:21, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, website, or role, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 15:03, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

The following request was written through the unblock wizard.
Can you explain, in your own words, why your edits were promotional?
I didn't realize my edits were promotional, I thought it was ok to cite specific sources even if they were services or products.
What is your relationship with the subjects you have been editing about?
I am trying to create a page and to eventually create more Wikipedia pages about colleagues and the founder of the work we do- Harville Hendrix and more about Imago Therapy and his book Getting the Love You Want which doesn't seem to have that much coverage on Wikipedia despite his couples therapy modality being the very first back in the 80s with his 17 appearances on Oprah launching his very important work.
If you are unblocked, what topic areas will you edit in?
to make sure nothing is promotional.
Is there anything else that may be helpful to your unblock request?
I didn't know there were restrictions on usernames so definitely want to change that as well. And when I first signed up I hadn't read all of the requirements and stipulations about creating a wikipedia page so I doing so now to make sure I am in congruence with the rules!

Accept reason:

Changed to mainspace block. You can create drafts and make edit requests to articles. Please follow the COI guidelines carefully. Best, voorts (talk/contributions) 18:10, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am Rabbi Shlomo Slatkin, the subject of this article. I have a conflict of interest regarding editing or creating this page. I am committed to following Wikipedia’s guidelines by writing in a neutral tone and citing independent, reliable sources.

This user has publicly declared that they have a conflict of interest regarding the Wikipedia article Error: No article specified.

Given that you are writing about yourself, your business, and your colleagues, you have a financial stake in the articles. As such, you will need to read Wikipedia's payment disclosure policy. Can you read through that and let us know what you'll need to do according to the policy? Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 19:36, 11 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Just wrote something below. Please let me know if the disclosure is enough. Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 16:02, 12 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Shlomo Slatkin An admin will now come along at some point in the next few days and review your unblock request. qcne (talk) 18:27, 13 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 00:42, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The paid disclosure requirement is met. Now, please see WP:COI and tell us what will change about how you contribute. 331dot (talk) 08:59, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I will disclose my affiliation clearly on talk pages, following the advice that paid or interested editors must declare their "employer, client, and affiliation. I just need help understanding where exactly that disclosure goes if I am creating new pages or editing existing ones? Also, I will ensure that any text I propose is purely factual, well-sourced, and written in a neutral, encyclopedic tone—never in a way that reads like an advertisement or marketing material. This means I will not use language that praises, endorses, or markets a person, business, or product. Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 22:35, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Jauerback: how do you feel about commuting the Rabbi's site block to a mainspace block, so that any edits will need to be submitted through drafts or edit requests? voorts (talk/contributions) 21:51, 18 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have no objections to that. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 13:03, 19 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you all so much! So if I wanted to create an article for my own name and then several other topics, where do I create all of that? All using the Shlomo Slatkin sandbox page? Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 21:30, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Or via the Wikipedia:Article wizard which will create drafts directly. qcne (talk) 21:32, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You should write an individual draft for each article, and submit it when you think it's ready. Before creating those drafts, I highly recommend reading Wikipedia:Autobiography and Wikipedia:Notability. voorts (talk/contributions) 21:52, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I will also say, looking at your original draft, the sources you've provided do not establish your own notability. Being quoted in news reports or interviewed by publications like this are not enough to establish notability. Some things that would establish your notability include: profiles (not interviews) in a couple of newspapers/magazines or a few paragraphs written about you in such a newspaper/magazine/book, etc. I did a quick Google search and while you may be colloquially notable in marriage counseling circles, notability on Wikipedia diverges significantly from the everyday definition of notability. voorts (talk/contributions) 21:57, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think this is a good source, but you need more than one source like this to establish your notability. voorts (talk/contributions) 21:58, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I may have submitted a draft at the same time you wrote your comment so I will redo with better sources. Thank you. Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 22:13, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Can I ask you about these sources?
  • **The Baltimore Sun (2015)** – a feature article, "Let’s stay together: Baltimore duo helps couples regain marital bliss," profiling my and my wife’s work through the Marriage Restoration Project.
  • **Business Insider (2019)** – an op-ed contribution highlighting parallels between communication in marriages and in workplace teams, published in a major national outlet.
  • **Published works with ISBNs**, including The Five Step Action Plan to a Happy & Healthy Marriage (2015) and The Jewish Marriage Book (2011).
Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 22:28, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Did you use AI to generate these? jlwoodwa (talk) 03:13, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Markup =/= AI use. Nothing about Shlomo's writing style indicates that it's AI. voorts (talk/contributions) 03:50, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't say it was just about the markup. "Highlighting", for instance, is very common in AI-generated text. jlwoodwa (talk) 07:27, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I use AI to help with research and organization and then write my contributions. Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 13:06, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I already said that the first source helps in establishing notability. The latter two do not. Anybody can submit an op-ed to Business Insider, and unless your books received prominent reviews in notable publications, they don't contribute to your notability either. If the Baltimore Sun article is the only one that has been written about you, then you do not meet our notability guidelines. voorts (talk/contributions) 23:09, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I had removed the books but only saw your message right now after submitting my first draft and Business Insider is still in there. Sorry about that. Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 23:25, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at your draft. I do not believe that it will be accepted because there is not enough to establish your notability. voorts (talk/contributions) 23:29, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. What do you suggest? Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 23:30, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest that you are not notable enough to have a Wikipedia article about yourself. Not everyone who is prominent in their community (personal or professional) will be featured on Wikipedia.
As for how you can contribute to Wikipedia otherwise, I suggest making some edit requests to articles related to your area of expertise, or writing drafts for the other articles you suggested above. voorts (talk/contributions) 23:33, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I also want to comment on the other two sources you highlighted in your edit summary of your draft. The Elle article only contains a brief description of your work and quote from you; it doesn't contain significant coverage of you. The Matador Network does not appear to be reliable, as they don't have clear editorial policies and they don't appear to distinguish between paid and non-paid content. voorts (talk/contributions) 23:36, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. I also created edits for Harville Hendrix and submitted those but can't find them in my sandbox page. Would you know if that is still being reviewed? Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 13:10, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Is it these? User:Shlomo Slatkin? You can check all your contributions at Special:Contributions/Shlomo Slatkin. qcne (talk) 13:16, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I see the request to review it but not the new content itself. Only the one about me is coming up. Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 13:23, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Were you logged in to this account when you made those edits? Did you perhaps forget to "Publish" the edits, which is akin to "Save"? qcne (talk) 17:17, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you I just added it as a topic directly on Harville Hendrix's page because I am just not understanding where I am supposed to add new topics to existing pages! I tried adding it in my sandbox page but just see my unapproved article. Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 19:57, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sorry, I didn't realise you were talking about an existing article.
What you want to do is format your edit as an Edit request. Currently you've posted your suggestions on the Harville Hendrix Talk Page, which is the right thing to do, but if you format it as an Edit request it will notify editors that someone wants to update the page.
I have formatted your new topic so it's an Edit request, but in future you can just use Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard and it'll format it automatically.
If you refresh Talk:Harville Hendrix you'll now see your topic is formatted as an Edit request. qcne (talk) 20:05, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! And where do I put my paid contributor conflict of interest status for the Harville Hendrix page? Is that necessary in this case as I am an Imago therapist myself? Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 20:29, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Shlomo Slatkin Since that is now on your User:Shlomo Slatkin userpage, you don't need to put it anywhere else. qcne (talk) 20:29, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for this clarity! I just tried a new one under the Imago therapy page and I hope everything got saved. Appreciate your moderation. Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 22:38, 22 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, that's correctly formatted. qcne (talk) 13:53, 23 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If I want to create a new topic entirely, is there a direct place to go to do so? Or just use the edit request wizard? Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 12:29, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean to create a new discussion Topic on a Talk Page? Just click the Add topic or + New Topic button at the top. qcne (talk) 12:30, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A new category that isn't in Wikipedia. Shlomo Slatkin (talk) 19:18, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
