Request reason:
My IP current address, 148.252.140.232, is blocked because of the activities of previous holders. This address not a VPN, but assigned by Vodafone UK. This is my primary means of Internet access. Rural Spaceman (talk) 7:09 pm, Yesterday (UTC+1)
Accept reason:
I'm still getting used to the recent changes to blocking logs and such; the only block I see on that IP is a range block from a few specific articles that only affects IP users. I see something about other blocks but I can't find any other information. What is the exact message that you see when you attempt to edit? 331dot (talk) 20:02, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- Yamla, any chance you can narrow this rangeblock, or grant IPBE? Looks likely to me that this isn't a proxy so much as a connection with a lot of dodgy activity on it. -- asilvering (talk) 21:18, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- In fact, it's not a proxy in any way. It's an ordinary dynamic IP Internet connection, from a mainstream mobile telephony provider/ISP. Rural Spaceman (talk) 23:49, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- 331dot and Asilvering, thanks for helping out with this.
- Asilvering and Yamla, I'd like to emphasise that I do not believe this to be 'a connection with a lot of dodgy activity on it'. It's an ordinary consumer ISP IP address, assigned by a large ISP. I know this because it's currently assigned to me; you can verify this using an IP lookup tool of your choice. Looking more closely, it seems the block has been applied to an entire /25 subnet. Either this subnet is over-broad, and you've picked up innocent users who happen to have addresses adjacent to an address or a smaller subnet used as a proxy, or a few disruptive editors happen to be customers of this mainstream ISP, and your response is indiscriminately blocking other customers.

Thanks for picking this up. In plain text, it's as follows below, and blocks me from editing even when authenticated.
You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reason:
This IP address has been blocked from editing Wikipedia.
This does not affect your ability to read Wikipedia pages. Most people who see this message have done nothing wrong. Some kinds of blocks restrict editing from specific service providers or telecom companies in response to recent abuse or vandalism, and can sometimes affect other users who are unrelated to that abuse. Review the information below for assistance if you do not believe that you have done anything wrong. The IP address or range 148.252.140.128/25 has been blocked by Yamla for the following reason(s):
Why you are seeing this message: Your current IP address is blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to belong to a VPN or proxy service. These types of services are commonly used for abusive editing and circumventing Wikipedia policies, so Wikipedia blocks them as a preventive measure — even if you personally haven't done anything wrong.
How to fix it:
Turn off VPNs, proxies, or tools like iCloud Private Relay (for Apple users) or Microsoft Edge Secure Network. This is the most frequent reason users encounter this block. Try a different connection. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, or use a home network instead of a public or work one. Whitelist Wikipedia. You may be able to whitelist Wikipedia from your VPN so that connections to Wikipedia aren't through a VPN service. Instructions for whitelisting Wikipedia on iCloud Private Relay can be found here. Still blocked? If you believe you are not running an anonymizing proxy or Tor, you should consider checking the configuration to make sure it is accurate. Sometimes the configuration for your network is changed without your knowledge, sometimes by malware. In truly exceptional circumstances, you may request IP block exemption. Approval is limited and based on specific criteria, and you should only request it if you have no other way to edit Wikipedia. Note: These blocks are about the type of internet connection, not your actions. We appreciate good-faith contributors and want to help you get editing again.
How to appeal if you are confident that your connection does not use an open proxy's IP address: This block will expire on 19:30, 26 February 2026. Your current IP address is 148.252.140.232.
Even when blocked, you will usually still be able to edit your user talk page, as well as email administrators and other editors.
For information on how to proceed, please read the FAQ for blocked users and the guideline on block appeals. The guide to appealing blocks may also be helpful.

The block affecting you is this one, placed by Yamla on 26 February 2025 for one year. I'm happy to grant IPBE for eight months (over the duration of the hard block), but before I do, I'm going to flag this as {{Checkuser needed}}
to make sure there's absolutely no problem in doing so. Thanks for your patience. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:16, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. Please let me know if there's any action I need to take. Rural Spaceman (talk) 11:23, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- You shouldn't need to do anything else; you've given us enough information to work on for the minute. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:26, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Checkuser didn't show anything concerning. Suggest you go ahead with IPBE. PhilKnight (talk) 13:19, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- Looks like I'm back in. Thanks to everyone who helped out. My edits are infrequent and generally pretty low-stakes, but I value my, and others', ability to contribute to the project in this way. Rural Spaceman (talk) 16:02, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
