Counties and parishes in Queensland

[edit]

Re: your edit on Coochin Creek. Counties and parishes were used as part of the land administration system until about 1990 (note these are civil parishes, unrelated to religious parishes). Other than being a named area on a map, there is no practical significance to parishes today (other than to record the relevant parishes for people interested in the history of an area). We do have articles for a number of the Queensland counties, e.g. County of Canning in this case, which list the names and coords of the parishes, but there are no articles on the parishes themselves (as far as I know) because there is very little you can say about them. So, while articles on Queensland places may mention their parish in the infobox, there will be no article to link to. If there was a county article, a link to County of Canning#Parishes could be added I guess. There might be other geographic place articles in Queensland which have the same name as a county or parish (which may be related or merely coincidence but they will not be describing the parish). But probably the simplest thing is to leave them alone. Kerry (talk) 02:17, 13 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info. I have only visited Queensland once & it was many years ago, so my knowledge is limited. Because of the way the infobox is formatted the bot software is picking these up as links to disambiguation pages and adding them to lists at Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links as needing fixing. To stop this, would it be worth turning them int red links eg Beerwah (parish) or similar title?— Rod talk 08:07, 13 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The problem seems to be that recent changes to the Infobox Australian place has resulted in automatically adding links to the parish field (which previously did not occur, you had to manually link it if you wanted it linked). I have raised the issue on the infobox talk page and am hoping the solution lies in fixing the infobox, then they won't appear as redlinks. Kerry (talk) 21:00, 13 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A Very Merry Christmas to you!
