Electronic Dance Music as EDM or Dance

[edit]

QuietHere, I saw your change and edit summary at List of 2007 albums and at Boogie 2nite (album) where you stated "Just writing "dance" is misleading because it's a different genre", and I wanted to write that I disagree. If you go to Electronic dance music, the lead sentence of the article states "Electronic dance music (EDM), also referred to as dance music or club music, is a broad range of percussive electronic music genres originally made for nightclubs, raves, and festivals.", thus EDM may safely be referred to as either Dance music or Club music as much as it may be listed as EDM. There is a redirect that uses the term Dance music (electronic) that returns back to Electronic dance music. The article Dance music lead two sentences states "Dance music is music composed specifically to facilitate or accompany dancing. It can be either a whole piece or part of a larger musical arrangement", which to me indicates that it is not a genre. Therefore, I am stating that I disagree with your statement that Electronic dance music cannot be called "dance" because it is a different genre. The only genre of dance that I can find is EDM.

I am not going to change anything in the articles you edited, I just wanted to state that I disagree with your rationale, and for myself, I will continue to convert genre listings where people list it as dance music over to electronic dance music as the only appropriate correction, but I will leave the display link as dance. @Mburrell Perhaps I should've been more specific about what I meant. When I wrote "different genre", I meant that EDM is a subtype or subgenre of dance music, but that there are plenty of types of non-electronic dance music that also exist within that umbrella and it could be confusing to readers if they click on a link that says "dance music" but are taken to the EDM article. It also could imply that EDM is the only type of dance music which clearly isn't true, and that could be misleading to readers. As an editor, I think it makes more sense to be as clear as possible whether you're referring to all dance music or just EDM specifically. RfC on bonus/alternative tracks on album articles.

[edit]

I've started another RfC about the guidance at MOS:ALBUMS for alternative and bonus tracks, as the other one fizzled out. I've notified you because you've participated in a past discussion of the issue. See the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Albums#RfC_on_bonus_and_alternate_track_listings.--3family6 (Talk to me|See what I have done) 17:52, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I congratulate you.

Thank you very much, but please do not delete Category:Hollywood Studio Symphony soundtracks and Category:Music commissioned by the Hollywood Studio Symphony. PeterLGreen1996 (talk) 05:06, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@PeterLGreen1996 if you wish to make a case in favor of those categories, there are two discussions open at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2025 May 16. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 05:08, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You will not delete Category:Hollywood Studio Symphony and Category:Hollywood Studio Symphony, will you? Because they're not nominated for deletion and I just created them. PeterLGreen1996 (talk) 05:11, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@PeterLGreen1996 if you're referring to Category:Music commissioned by the Hollywood Studio Symphony, I do need to ask: are you planning on making articles out of either of the redirects which are currently entries? Because redirect-only categories (aside from maintenance cats) aren't particularly useful and frequently get deleted. Unless there's an article waiting to be added to that category, I wouldn't expect it to last either. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 05:15, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously, I will add new categories of music commissioned by orchestras which are never nominated for deletion one of these days. PeterLGreen1996 (talk) 05:27, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Can I ask you question? Can you please remove the nominations for deletions of my new categories Category:Hollywood Studio Symphony and Category:Hollywood Studio Symphony albums so they can stay on Wikipedia forever? PeterLGreen1996 (talk) 05:43, 16 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@PeterLGreen1996 like I already said, if you want to make a case for why they should stay, go to the page I linked and write your argument there. One of those deletion proposals isn't even mine, so I couldn't remove it even if I wanted to. You messaging me here isn't accomplishing anything.
