I reverted you large cut to the lead because: 1) The lead is meant to adequately summarise the entire article 2) The lead is not exempt from the usual rules for citing reliable sources for content likely to be disputed.

Many of the statements in the lead are controversial and have been challenged in the past. This is why they have citations. Please look at the Talk archives to familiarise yourself with previous discussion on the lead.

If you have a proposal to cut the lead please discuss it on the article Talk page and seek consensus for you rpoposed changes.
