Marian Beattie update

[edit]

As you may have a connection to Marian I take it you're aware of this article: https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/family-vindicated-ex-police-officers-among-suspects-in-ni-teens-unsolved-murder-as-report-finds-systematic-failings-in-probe/a32764180.html (available here: https://archive.ph/9opo9) Billsmith60 (talk) 10:28, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have no personal connection to Marian, but I was familiar with her case. As someone from Northern Ireland, I was surprised to discover that no Wikipedia page existed for her, so I decided to create one. I wasn’t aware of that article, thank you for sending it to me. It’s a significant update, and hopefully the renewed attention will help bring the killer to justice soon. ItsShandog (talk) 10:47, 27 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Bon Secours

[edit]

Hi there, ItsShandog! Thank you for recent work on Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home, it's much appreciated. I'm interested in bringing the article up to WP:Good Article status. While my initial application was swiftly rejected (justly!), I'm wondering if you'd be willing to help me work through the article with a view to re-submission? Cheers, BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 14:05, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bastun, Thanks so much for the kind words — I really appreciate it! I’d be more than happy to help you work through the Bon Secours Mother and Baby Home article with an eye toward getting it to WP:Good Article status. It’s an important and sensitive topic, and improving the quality of the coverage is well worth the effort.
Do you recall what specific areas were flagged for improvement in the initial review? I’d be more than happy to start working on them with you — just let me know where you’d like to begin! ItsShandog (talk) 15:10, 21 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The feedback page is at Talk:Bon_Secours_Mother_and_Baby_Home/GA1. I think referencing would be the main thing - basically everything needs to be referenced, so there should be one or more references covering every two or three sentences. I think it's clear from the review, too, reading between the lines, anyway, that some of it needs to re-written form a perspective of "assume the reader has never ever heard of or read about Ireland in the 20th century, mother and baby homes, church scandals, or other things that people living on the island are intimately familiar with."
There's no rush, which is a plus! I think if we just work away on it when we can, starting at the top and working our way down, we'll get there. We can use the GA1 page to keep track of progress and tease things out, if needed. BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 10:08, 22 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi ItsShandog. Thank you for your work on Lynn brothers. Another editor, Klbrain, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Thank you for creating a joint page for these 4 brothers, who still have an impact more than a century after their deaths as symbols of wartime sacrifice. Some of the sources are routine listing, but there are sufficient national reliable sources, where they are the primary topic, to establish notability.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Klbrain}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)
