Recap

[edit]

I'm not surprised the unblock request wasn't responded to, there's ~5000 words of discussion above. I tried to compress this into some key points with feedback:

  • Problems with machine translation have continued on other Wikis

States her fr.wikipedia ban one year ago was a wakeup call, now limits edits on other language Wikipedias to small/gnomish stuff. This is good!

  • PBlock on simple.wikipedia

For spamming non-simple machine translations. Now tries to contribute constructively with talk page requests and userspace drafts. The drafts piling up isn't a great look, and either an unblock or some articles moved to mainspace would help a lot.

  • SurferSquall's block on simple.wikipedia

Someone helping to review her drafts after the pblock on simple.wikipedia was blocked for "editcountitis". She was falsely accused of lying for stating this, because two years later he was globally locked for sockpuppetry. That's just unfair.

  • The ja.wikipedia drafts

I noticed she had made and blanked some drafts on ja.wikipedia that were terrible machine translations. Immanuelle confirmed this to me, and said her blanking was an attempt to have them speedy'd. Mainspace activity on jawiki seem to confirm she is sticking to small edits on other wikis as above.

I would make a suggestion that Immanuelle never publish any AI generated anything, anywhere on any WMF project, since I'm sure some people see it as a continuation of past problems.

I think this could be a good goal. I would suggest avoiding all Japanese language sources for this, and if it isn't possible to do that, pick a different article to focus on where English sources are available.

  • Criticized for picking a 20 draft limit, as that is too high

This was suggested by asilvering at ANI, the other proposal there was for 50 drafts. The limit was suggested because her draft count was over 3000, inflated by making a draft on every single Jouyou Kanji (the last of which finally timed out yesterday). Outside of a similar mass-creation, I don't see a reason why a draft limit would be needed going forward.

  • Fascist Shintou and Juuzenji

I think the issues here are down to misrepresenting/misunderstanding translated Japanese sources. I would hope if a rule of English sources only is followed, this won't be likely to reoccur.

It seems in the past, the people who have jumped to help her were also inexperienced and overeager in their language ability. I hope that's a lesson learned.

Not sure what to conclude here. I think what I saw on jawiki was evidence of better judgement within the last year. I hope this is at all useful for making a new unblock request. REAL_MOUSE_IRL talk 16:37, 9 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Looks very well written. I initially hoped that Immanuelle could have gotten a second chance, but I guess unfortunately not.
To Immanuelle: Good luck with your new unblock request, if you are making one. Wikiexplorationandhelping (talk) 00:01, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The mistake he made with Juuzenji was not that he misread the Japanese materials by machine translating them, but that he did not even seriously read the English papers, and did not properly understand the English academic papers. This shows that he does not read the sources in the first place, or does not have the ability to read and understand them, and is a problem that goes beyond the inappropriate use of machine translation. I think the fundamental problem he has is a lack of respect for academic research and a disregard for the accuracy of the articles, as if he thinks history is the material for fantasy. For him to show serious reflection, I think he should resolve all the problems in the articles he has written so far, but this will require study and will take time and effort to achieve. I would not be surprised if it was a lifelong job. Japanese people rarely read English materials in this genre, so it was very difficult for me to translate the English materials properly. It sometimes took days to find the appropriate Japanese translation of a single term. I think that only a limited number of researchers and university students in this genre can help revise these articles. I hope you can find a collaborator with the necessary knowledge and abilities, or you can become one yourself. Good luck.--呉野(KURENO) (talk) 15:23, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I would very much like to improve the flawed articles I made in the past. I am quite knowledgeable about the mistakes I made in individual articles, and am quite bothered whenever I see them. It definitely will take a while to fix them.
I got some things wrong in very embarassing ways due to trying to rush to get an article out on a topic that I felt was notable. I didn't realize how long some mistakes that I felt were obvious in hindsight ended up staying on the articles for long periods of time.
I hope all of you are patient with me having a much harder time emotionally with the appeals process than I had expected. Right now I want to fix and improve existing things over expanding the scope of things. I have been doing reading and consider myself more knowledgeable now. But I definitely have a long way to go. I most enjoy reading from Helen Hardacre and Bernard Faure. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 21:31, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@REAL MOUSE IRL The reason I chose Yata no Kagami to try to get to GA status is that it is a really well documented one in English sources. Not quite the best and I think I could definitely instead move to try to flesh out History of Shinto. I can definitely flesh it out and verify a lot of it with the writing of Helen Hardacre. Although that one has a more questionable foundation to start with.
I'm definitely gonna want to stay away from Tendai for the time being since I do not know much about it and how it functions.
And no, I was really hasty in my reading and didn't use English sources that well when I was here, and didn't always have the background knowledge to use the sources well. Although I hope I an avoid those problems through being more patient and thorough in the future. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 21:53, 13 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My advice is that it would be best to keep the explanations short. Remember that Kureno said "Brevity is the soul of wit."
I know that it may be unfair to you, as the questions and discussions were also very long, but conciseness is what will win administrators over when it comes to unblocks. Since the request was not declined immediately, there is room for improvement.
Yours truly,

@Wikiexplorationandhelping Does this apply to discussions here before the appeal or just the appeal itself? Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 12:04, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I would say the appeal and any discussions relevant to the appeal afterwards. Discussions before an appeal shouldn't have too much impact on the appeal. Wikiexplorationandhelping (talk) 22:58, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. In that case I will not be too afraid to be too verbose here in preparation for the appeal. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 23:35, 14 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Immanuelle,I have a favor to ask of you. Would you request yourself to delete your new articles, templates, categories, redirects, sandbox, and everything else you have created on the Japanese Wikipedia? Your Japanese language skills are insufficient, so you cannot write articles in Japanese without using AI or machine translation, but it is preferable not to use these, so you will not write articles in Japanese. Therefore, I do not think it is necessary to keep your works on the Japanese Wikipedia. There are multiple problems with what you have created. You have requested the sandbox to be deleted in the past, and you know how to do it, so you are able to do it yourself, aren't you?

I have checked my request to make sure there are no omissions and have asked to delete all articles and templates you have created. (ja:Wikipedia:削除依頼/Immanuelleによる機械翻訳で作成されたTemplate,ja:Wikipedia:削除依頼/Immanuelleによる機械翻訳で作成された記事) But I noticed that my list was not complete. You've created so many things on the Japanese Wikipedia that I'm having a hard time cleaning them up. Actions speak louder than words. I hope you do that.--呉野(KURENO) (talk) 15:28, 17 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@呉野 apologies for being late on the response. I have since deleted most of my redirects and all of the templates not in the deletion discussion (since to my knowledge you cannot speedy delete an article in a deletion discussion, at least not in enwiki rules).
But would you mind looking over a few here? If you say no I will just speedy delete all of them
You can look here and see that those are the only non-deleted ones left https://xtools.wmcloud.org/pages/ja.wikipedia.org/Immanuelle/0/all
And likewise here I have cleared everything from the template userspace aside from things still under deletion discussion
https://xtools.wmcloud.org/pages/ja.wikipedia.org/Immanuelle/10/all
I will do a speedy deletion on those templates if I am allowed. But again I think that breaks enwiki rules and would break jawiki rules on deletion procedures too. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 02:55, 27 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Just deleted that one since no responses in a while. You can recreate the redirect if you see it as appropriate. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 02:59, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Immanuelle,I appreciate what you did. Sorry for the late response. Instead of redirecting "辛嶋氏" to "辛島氏", it would be appropriate to rename "辛島氏" to "辛嶋氏". I will handle this.
I have withdrawn this deletion request, so it will be over in a little while, and then I would like you to do what you need to do.--呉野(KURENO) (talk) 13:56, 29 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There. Done Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 18:55, 30 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Are you fine with me adding images or galleries to articles? I went to Japan over last summer and took a lot of shrine photos such as all but one of these ones for 夜疑神社.

I have been unblocked on simple english wikipedia and I want to attempt my unblock request soon

[edit]

I have been unblocked on simple english wikipedia and wish to attempt an appeal soon here. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 00:09, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited there for about a month since the unblock. And I have much less userspace drafts now that I deleted many or moved them to mainspace. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 02:27, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So putting my thoughts together. 6 month long 10 draft voluntary restriction. Hard cap, no exceptions. Will practically be more like a 4 draft restriction since 6 exist already and I do not plan on immediately deleting them. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 20:07, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry everyone. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 03:21, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck, @Immanuelle. I think those restrictions would make sense. qcne (talk) 12:02, 3 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
