Bladder cancer

[edit]

Hi Graham Beards. I've just finished a first pass at overhauling bladder cancer, and am hoping to bring it to FAC soon. Any chance you could spare some time to look it over? Any feedback is appreciated. Ajpolino (talk) 22:05, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes of course. Graham Beards (talk) 07:51, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help

[edit]

Hello,

I wanted to thank you again for your help on the Virgo interferometer, which has finally been promoted to FA. Your interventions really helped making this a reality! So, thank you, and I wish you happy holidays. Let me know if you are ever in need of a review. Thuiop (talk) 08:36, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is this source okay to use?

[edit]

I have been working on the "1993 Four Corners hantavirus outbreak" article, and I was wondering if this source would be acceptable on an FA-level article? Specifically the PDF that is linked. Velayinosu (talk) 03:36, 2 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Why Revert My Edit on Bacteria?

[edit]

I did cite a source. There is nothing to discuss in the talk page. Jako96 (talk) 18:24, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, where is the source? Could you show me the diff. Graham Beards (talk) 07:13, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Bacteria&diff=prev&oldid=1287807834 Jako96 (talk) 12:46, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
How does this proposal support the addition of "(monophyletic?)" to the TaxoBox? Graham Beards (talk) 14:08, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
See page 3: "Thus, despite the partially low phylogenetic resolution, the taxonomically preferable solution for bacterial kingdoms seems to be to accept the subdivision apparent in the study by Battistuzzi and Hedges [30], but to refine it according to more recent results [37, 52]. This reasoning suggests the proposal of Bacillati, Fusobacteriati, Pseudomonadati and Thermotogati." Jako96 (talk) 14:19, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This doesn't answer my question. How does this proposal support the addition of "(monophyletic?)" to the TaxoBox? Graham Beards (talk) 14:54, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
See the whole paragraph: "Intriguingly, recent phylogenomic studies [37, 39, 49–52] juxtapose the groups ‘Terrabacteria’ and Gracilicutes, the latter being very similar to ‘Hydrobacteria’. Moreover, these studies indicate an isolated position of some of the bacterial phyla not included in either ‘Terrabacteria’ or ‘Hydrobacteria’ by Battistuzzi and Hedges [30]. The study by Coleman et al. [37] differs from the much earlier analysis by including Aquificota in Gracilicutes and by including Deinococcota not in ‘Terrabacteria’ but in a clade also comprising Synergistota and Thermotogota. The topologies presented in other studies examining the diderm–monoderm transition differed in part [53, 54], but this may be due to the use of fewer genes and different rooting approaches. Thus, despite the partially low phylogenetic resolution, the taxonomically preferable solution for bacterial kingdoms seems to be to accept the subdivision apparent in the study by Battistuzzi and Hedges [30], but to refine it according to more recent results [37, 52]. This reasoning suggests the proposal of Bacillati, Fusobacteriati, Pseudomonadati and Thermotogati." They say phylogenetic analyses' results varied and "Thus, despite the partially low phylogenetic resolution, the taxonomically preferable solution for bacterial kingdoms seems to be to accept the subdivision apparent in the study by Battistuzzi and Hedges [30], but to refine it according to more recent results [37, 52].". Jako96 (talk) 15:00, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
This does not support the the addition of "(monophyletic?)" to the TaxoBox, which is WP:OR and is not allowed. Graham Beards (talk) 15:04, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Jako96 (talk) 15:26, 29 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

What has the octagon got to do with local goverment? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 12:33, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the photograph I added is current (as can be seen by the inclusion of the Octagon), I took it last week. The other photograph, which your seem to prefer, is twenty years old. If you think there is redundancy here, perhaps you should remove the older one, which is no longer accurate - the trees have gone. Graham Beards (talk) 13:02, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The point being, that despite the age of the earlier photo, it is relevant to the section. As far as I can see the Octagon is not relevant to a section on the governance of Birmingham. It is certainly not necessary to have two images depicting more or less the same thing. Murgatroyd49 (talk) 13:56, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, I suggest we remove the outdated image. Graham Beards (talk) 14:03, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2025).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new speedy deletion criterion, G15, has been enacted. It applies to pages generated by a large language model (LLM) without human review.
  • Following a request for comment, there is a new policy outlining the granting of permissions to view the IP addresses of temporary accounts. Temporary account deployment on the English Wikipedia is currently scheduled for September 2025, and editors can request access to the permission ahead of time. Admins are encouraged to keep an eye on the request page; there will likely be a flood of editors requesting the permission when they realize they can no longer see IP addresses.

    • The contentious topic designations for Sri Lanka (SL) and India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan (IPA) are folded into this new contentious topic.
    • The community-authorized general sanctions regarding South Asian social groups (GS/CASTE) are rescinded and folded into this new contentious topic.
  • The arbitration case Article titles and capitalisation 2 has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 31 July.
  • The arbitration case Transgender healthcare and people has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case will close on 11 August.

Good morning.

The page history here is a bit of a mess. You uploaded over someone else's image with what appears to be your own picture. But it still says that he created it.

And now someone on Commons has apparently stolen your upload and claimed it as his own: File:Peter the Great tomb.jpg.

Would you mind officially providing a source and license to the upload you created?

That way we can separate it from the earlier upload. Magog the Ogre (tc) 14:58, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is a mess. I can't find the diff I uploaded it. Can you see it? Graham Beards (talk) 16:06, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g. [[WP:CT/BLP]]), and you will receive talk page reminders if you forget to specify the contentious topic but otherwise indicate it is an AE action.

Heyndrickxia Coagulans

[edit]

Hi Graham Beards. Thank you for taking the time to look over Heyndrickxia coagulans. I wanted to reach out about the Taxonomic History section. Unfortunately, large parts of this section are plagiarized from the article cited below. I am working on removing the plagiarized information and was wonder if you could help me with precisely what was wrong with the edit I made on October 14th so that I can continue improving the Heyndrickxia coagulans article.

García G, Soto J, Díaz A, Barreto J, Soto C, Pérez AB, Boffill S, Gutiérrez Á, Cano Rd (2024-12-13). "Clinical and In Vitro Safety of Heyndrickxia coagulans AO 1167B: A Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial". Microorganisms. 12 (12): 2584. doi:10.3390/microorganisms12122584. ISSN 2076-2607. PMC 11677179. PMID 39770785. Mem78578 (talk) 18:25, 28 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, the edit you made on October 14 was reverted by software called ClueBot [1], which seems to be a "false positive" and should have been reported. I cannot see the "large parts of this section" that have been plagiarised. All I see this one phrase, "has been approved for veterinary purposes as GRAS by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Centre for Veterinary Medicine, as well as by the European Union, and is listed by AAFCO for use as a direct-fed microbial in livestock production", which by far not the worst case of plagiarism I have seen here, but more of a lack of attribution. Having said that, your edit was ot an improvement. See this phrase for example, "Hammer discovered a bacteria that he named Bacillus Coagulans. First the singular of "bateria" is "bacterium" and its name should be Bacillus coagulans. Graham Beards (talk) 12:36, 29 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Guide to temporary accounts

[edit]

Hello, Graham Beards. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.

Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.

How do temporary accounts work?

Editing from a temporary account
  • When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern: ~2025-12345-67 (a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5).
  • All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
  • A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
  • As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
    • There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
    • There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.

Temporary account IP viewer user right

How to enable IP Reveal

Impact for administrators

  • It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
  • It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
  • Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).

Rules about IP information disclosure

  • Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
  • Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67)
  • See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.

Useful tools for patrollers

  • It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options → Tick Enable the user info card
    • This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
  • Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
  • Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
  • The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:24, 18 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
