Question from CuriosityNW (15:35, 18 August 2025)
[edit]Hi Geoff, I only created an account to chat with another user. I love Wiki, thank you for your contributions. Cheers --CuriosityNW (talk) 15:35, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
Question from David Abuse Lawyer (15:37, 18 August 2025)
[edit]Hi - I am creating this page on behalf of someone close. His name is David McClenaghan and I think I have created a profile page for him? I have then searched for him but can't find him could you help please? --David Abuse Lawyer (talk) 15:37, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

Question from David Abuse Lawyer (15:38, 18 August 2025)
[edit]Also is there a way that I can change the username from David Abuse Lawyer to David McCenaghan? Will this show up on the page or is it just a username? --David Abuse Lawyer (talk) 15:38, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- @David Abuse Lawyer: You need to immediately change your username. Go directly to Wikipedia:Changing_username. Do not pass go and not not collect $200. And user pages are not where new draft articles are created. Come back when you've changed your username and ask if you wish to know how and where to try creating new draft articles. And about disclosing your conflict of interest when editing on behalf of someone else. Geoff | Who, me? 15:54, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
Question from GingerCat2231 (21:17, 20 August 2025)
[edit]Hello,
I don't understand citations, everytime I try to do one it finds a error.
Thanks --GingerCat2231 (talk) 21:17, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- @GingerCat2231: I recommend that you take the editing tutorial: Wikipedia:Tutorial. To learn how to add and format references, you can read Help:Referencing for beginners for guidance. Geoff | Who, me? 21:26, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
Question from Charlie Wass (15:10, 22 August 2025)
[edit]Hi, I want to create a new article for the Old English mythical creature called Ents. There's currently only an article for Tolkien's version of the Ents, but he based it off the Old English version and there's enough surviving material to make an article for the original version. Thanks. --Charlie Wass (talk) 15:10, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Charlie Wass: Start here: <Help:Your_first_article, which will help you decide whether the topic you want to write about is suitable for a Wikipedia article. If your subject is suitable for Wikipedia, you can choose the option to create a draft and submit it for review by other editors as a part of the "Articles for Creation" project (WP:AFC). The members of this project are experienced editors, though there is much greater demand for their services than there is supply, so you may need to wait a while before your draft is reviewed.
- Since there is an existing article about Tolkien's invention, give your draft article a distinguishing title, such as "Ent (Old English)".
- Once you submit your draft, it will be placed into a category where it will be open for review by anyone who reviews submissions. If your submission is approved (which may take more than 3 months because of the current backlog) then an editor will accept it, and you will be notified of the article's creation. If your submission is not accepted, a note will be left on the page describing what can be improved, and you will be notified of this via a message on your "Talk" page.
- Let me know if you have further questions. Thank you for your interest in Wikipedia, and welcome to the community! Good luck! Geoff | Who, me? 15:18, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for the assistance, I will get to writing this.
- After this is done is the current Ent page title able to be changed to "Ent (Tolkien)" to reflect his version of the monster? Charlie Wass (talk) 15:36, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Charlie Wass: Not necessarily. See by way of example the disambiguation page for articles containing "Ent": ENT. To change the title of the existing article, Ent, which was created in 2004 and so probably predates most of the articles with that word in their title, you'd have to make a pretty compelling case at requested page moves. Geoff | Who, me? 15:58, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

Hey, so I basically don't know anything about wikipedia editing. I just make small changes here and there but I'm unable to make any significant contributions. any tips on how i can learn and improve? --Arnav285 (talk) 09:58, 25 August 2025 (UTC)
- @Arnav285: It looks like you followed the advice in the welcome on your user Talk page by starting to actively edit articles from the task list. That is a good way to gain experience. You could also find one of the Wikiprojects that interests you by starting here and participating in the project. If you haven't already done so, take the tutorial at Wikipedia:Introduction. Question from Varghese EP (21:53, 2 September 2025)
[edit]Hi, I’ve a complaint to make. I’m not sure you’re the right person for that or not. This user “ Pbritti” Is reverting my edits and creating more confusions. The main concern is the distinction between Roman Catholic archdioceses and eastern Catholic archdioceses. Eg: “Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Verapoly” is different to the adjacent “Syro-Malabar Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamaly”. “Pbritti” just changed every Roman Catholic Dioceses to just “Dioceses”. Please correct it. Thanks. --Varghese EP (talk) 21:53, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Varghese EP: I see you and the user had a recent discussion on your Talk page. Here's an outline of how to handle disputes over article content:
- Wikipedia is a collaborative encyclopedia (as explained at Wikipedia:Introduction), and so anyone may edit its articles. Its policy, nonetheless, is that articles must be written from a neutral point of view, representing all majority and significant-minority views fairly and without bias, as is discussed extensively at Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view.
- However, since article content is not controlled by a central authority, editing disputes are not resolved by mentors or other individuals acting alone. In light of this, you have a few options:
- 1.) Begin a discussion on each affected article's talk page (not just your own Talk page) to try to engage other editors and get a sense of what is happening with each article. Be sure to give your new section a title (like, "Concerns over article content", etc.) and once you write down your concerns you should sign the entry with four tildes ~~~~ before clicking on Save. Then you should check back occasionally to see if anyone has responded. This may be the simplest way to handle your issue.
- 2.) If you think your concern is not one of misunderstanding but of an editing dispute, you may end up needing to seek formal dispute resolution. This allows other editors to take a fresh look at what is going on and to consider the dispute from a neutral standpoint. You can access more information about Wikipedia's dispute resolution process here: Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution. Most dispute resolution requires you to have already engaged in discussion on the article talk page first, so you will probably NOT want to start here, but you may decide to go there if the talk page discussions turn out to be unproductive for you.
- 3.) You also have the option to change the content of the article as you see fit (unless you have been blocked for some reason). However, I must warn you that repeatedly reverting the edits of others or adding/removing significant content without discussion may constitute disruptive editing and may cause your account to become blocked. Please do not consider this your first option— begin with the talk page.
- If you have other questions about resolving content disputes, please let me know. Understand, however, that I have no special authority to change or enforce article content on your behalf: content disputes are ONLY resolved through talk pages and dispute resolution. Geoff | Who, me? 22:07, 2 September 2025 (UTC)
- Will try the above mentioned options. Thanks. Varghese EP (talk) 22:11, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

- @IkaCustodians: I do not protect articles. You can seek page protection, which will also prevent your editing, at Wikipedia:Requests_for_page_protection. And by the way, read what Wikipedia accepts as a reliable source here:WP:RS. TikTok is not accepted as a reliable source. I also recommend you save yourself some headaches by reading WP:RGW and confine yourself to proposing and discussing changes to the articles on their respective Talk pages. Question from LarsonClarke (19:06, 11 September 2025)
[edit]I published an article. How do I put this article in the category of Astrophysics and Dark Energy? --LarsonClarke (talk) 19:06, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- @LarsonClarke: Your user page is not the place to create a draft article. I have moved it for you to a personal sandbox under your user account: User:LarsonClarke/sandbox. Just so you know, writing about yourself is very highly discouraged around here: Wikipedia:Autobiography. If you wish to proceed, you can seek review of the draft for possible inclusion on Wikipedia by having it reviewed by the new articles review team. Submit your draft for review by adding the code
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of your draft (remember to switch to the source editor first). If you see a yellow box saying "Review waiting, please be patient", you have successfully submitted for review. If you don't see this box, you can ask for help at the Articles for Creation help desk. - Getting a review can take a while, but your draft will be reviewed eventually. Attempting to bypass the process by moving the page, or cutting and pasting it into a new mainspace article, may lead to the page being moved back into draftspace again, speedily-deleted or listed for Articles for Deletion, and repeated attempts may lead to consequences. In the meantime, we hope that you expand some of our already existing articles.
- Reviewers may decline or reject your draft submission. If your draft has been declined, you are encouraged to take the reviewer's feedback into account and resubmit your draft using the "submit" button on the AfC template. If your draft has been rejected, you are not encouraged to resubmit and will not see a "submit" button on the template. Reviewers decline drafts if they do not presently meet Wikipedia's guidelines. Reviewers reject drafts only if it is unlikely that they will ever meet those guidelines; for example, if the topic is not relevant for the encyclopedia, or if the draft is spam. A topic that is not notable, however, may later become notable. Geoff | Who, me? 21:27, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Geoff,
- Sorry for the delayed reply ...
- We REALLY want to proceed...
- (In other words, we understand Wiki's reservations.)
- How do we proceed??
- I am to add this text {{AfC submission|||ts=20250915193220|u=LarsonClarke|ns=3}} where? This is all new to me. I will make an attempt now, please guide me if I'm wrong. Thank you.
- Drake
- ....
- Rob Clark and I have had a couple of Academics look at this draft ... and they liked it!.... That said, they both felt that an Academic who does NOT have tenure would probably lose their chance in the 2025 academic setting ...
- I think the fact the the title says "Larson-Clarke dark energy CONJECTURE" (emphasis include here)... let's the reader know that both Drake and Rob are suggesting this a 'maybe solution' for dark energy in astrophysics LarsonClarke (talk) 19:32, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
- @LarsonClarke: It appears you succeeded in submitting the draft for review, as shown by the notice at the top of the page: Draft:Larson-Clarke Dark Energy Conjecture. As noted, it may be as long as 7 weeks, or more, before the review is completed. Check the draft at its current location from time to time for a notice indicating completion of the review and acceptance of rejection of your draft article. Be mindful of the conflict of interest requirements as outlined in the notice an editor has posted to your user talk page: User_talk:LarsonClarke. Geoff | Who, me? 21:07, 15 September 2025 (UTC)
Lighton edits
[edit]Hi Geoff, I see that it’s not the done thing to revert articles back to my own contributions, and this might flag me as a disruptive editor. However I did make the effort to add clearer, published, and respected sources, and more detail, to expand a stub article. On pages I’ve edited in the past like Rory Stewart or Jonah Hauer-King there is no source at all for them being Old Etonians, so I hope you can see my confusion when my (sometimes double-sourced) additions are removed. By the way, I like the mock turtle. 188.28.78.86 (talk) 21:58, 11 September 2025 (UTC)
- @188.28.78.86: I suggest you open a discussion about the edits on the article's Talk page, Talk:Harry Lighton, and that you ping Peerage Ireland, Primefac and me when you do so. It is better that the discussion be there so that all interested volunteers are able to see and participate. Geoff | Who, me? 22:05, 11 September 2025 (UTC)

Question from Parikshitdas91 (13:28, 12 September 2025)
[edit]I can't find some of my recently made edits. All the edits are backed by credible and authoritative publicly available sources:
1) How do I check if my edits have been removed? 2) How do I know why they have been removed? 3) Why don't I get any notification if my edits are approved or removed? --Parikshitdas91 (talk) 13:28, 12 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Parikshitdas91: See the message on your user account Talk page: User_talk:Parikshitdas91. You can see the list of your edits by clicking on "Contributions" at the top of your own Talk page or here: Special:Contributions/Parikshitdas91. You can click on "diff" beside each listed edit on that list to see the article edited and the fate of your edit. Understand that all edits by all editors are subject to review and revision by all other editors. You'll have to look at your contributions list as, unless you've added an article you edited to your watch list, you'll not be notified of revisions to the article, including when your edits are reverted. Edit the articles on your watch list by starting in your Preferences here: Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-watchlist. Geoff | Who, me? 14:04, 12 September 2025 (UTC)
Question from GilbertKukah (11:58, 14 September 2025)
[edit]Hey Geoff, I was wondering if I could create a wiki on myself and are there any restrictions or special rules to go by? --GilbertKukah (talk) 11:58, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
- @GilbertKuah: Wikipedia is a collaborative encyclopedia written by its readers. The subjects for our articles are generally chosen by the editing community rather than by request. While there is a venue where you can request articles, a request for an article creation on oneself is likely to be declined. You can visit our 'requests for articles' page at Wikipedia:Requested articles.
- It's also important to realise that Wikipedia strongly discourages articles written by the subjects themselves or by others close to a subject because of the difficulty in writing objectively about yourself, your family, or your work. Please see Wikipedia:Autobiography for our guidelines on writing about yourself or topics you are personally involved with. While keeping in mind conflict of interest issues, please note that if someone does create an article about you, you should feel more than welcome to edit the article's Talk page to ensure that each piece of information is factual and complying with our "Biography of Living Persons" policy. This policy can be viewed at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons.
- You may also like to read Wikipedia:Notability (people) for a guideline on the type of articles that are generally accepted. Geoff | Who, me? 13:07, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
