Question about Alania/Spartak Vladikavkaz

[edit]

Hey, I noticed you created the article FC Alania Vladikavkaz (2019) in July 2019 with regards to the newly-founded private team, separate from FC Spartak Vladikavkaz. However it seems an IP later came in and copied over the history of the club founded in 1921 to the 2019 article, so now both articles have very similar contents. I don't have an understanding of the whole succession/legal situation, but was wondering if you were more familiar? From the Russian wiki it appears the 2019 club only lasted one season. Thanks, S.A. Julio (talk) 03:55, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there @S.A. Julio
The timeline goes like this:
There was one team called Spartak in the 2018–19 season. It claimed the club history, no confusion at that time.
In the summer of 2019, a new team called Alania was created. In the 2019–20 season, both Spartak and Alania played in the same zone of the third-tier league. I don't know whose claim to history was recognized during that season. Doesn't matter anymore, I guess.
In the summer of 2020, Spartak was dissolved and only Alania existed since then.
Even through technically the currently-existing Alania only started competing in the 2019–20 season, its claim to history is now recognized by the league (the league's website says Foundation date: 1921). It helps that there is only one current club that claims that history.
So, I think, those articles can be merged now into one article, called FC Alania Vladikavkaz. As long as the "two teams in the 2019–20 season" situation is covered clearly.
What do you think? Thanks.

Hmm, interesting situation. My only issue is that if two clubs existed during the 2019/20 season, shouldn't there be two articles? It would be quite abnormal to cover both in the same article, given they coexisted as two different entities. S.A. Julio (talk) 00:46, 9 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
