User talk:GYHASHAKE
Welcome!
[edit]Hello, GYHASHAKE, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Draft:David Clendining, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)
In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

before the question. Again, welcome! Jay8g [V•T•E] 23:59, 24 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your input and help, Jay8g.
- I had drafted this in my Sandbox and thought a draft was ready to go into a Draft page so that it would be available to receive input from others. Am I using the wrong type of Draft page maybe? Maybe I should continue to work in the Sandbox for now. I have been reading the How To User Help pages and believed I was doing my best to follow the rules.
- I don't believe I have a conflict of interest. I'm retired, and took on this project to help get a Canadian artist recognition on Wikipedia. His works can be found, but when I searched, there was nothing about him. I've interviewed the artist and I'm colllecting more information. I looked at pages for Tom Thompson and Emily Carr for inspiration and I am trying to capture the artist's life and what inspired him and get a few life stories on his journey in developing his talent.
- The User pages suggested that a Draft page was the best to work in, in order to get feedback, so I'm unclear why anything would be deleted until the final product is complete. As I said, I worked in Sandbox up to this point and can go back to that until I've of got a more substantial result.
- Regarding my user name: Wikipedia wanted an email address and this is the one I use for personal security against Spam and Scams. I just used the same name to create the account. If you think I should use a different handle, I can request a change. I notice that your's is not specificly identifiable, but I assume your first name is Jay. I can do something like that. - Bit late, but:
- Your draft/sandbox/whatever is fine, no need to change.
- You knew the subject in high school and did interview him, so you do have a conflict of interest.
- Your username is fine, the warning is just part of the template if you did have a promotional username.

- Thanks. I had noted my conflict of interest in the Talk, so that's OK to have acknowledged it and it should be publishable when it is ready? GYHASHAKE (talk) 19:54, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, would recommend doing it on you user page as well, since most reviewers don't check talk pages that much. GoldRomean (talk) 20:46, 9 June 2025 (UTC)

- I reviewed what are reliable sources for citations, and this includes direct verbal quotes by a living person. Since the narrative is largely based on information provided by the artist when interviewed, if I provide proper quotation for the appropriate information, will this suffice for being a reliable source? GYHASHAKE (talk) 17:10, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
- The problem with you interview is, we simply unfortunately have no way of knowing whether something is true or not. I'm sure it is, but we need sources that editors can actually access, whether it be a video, book, website, etc. GoldRomean (talk) 20:47, 9 June 2025 (UTC)
