Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Evviva. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Evviva~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell

AfC notification: Draft:LXT AI has a new comment

- @DoubleGrazing fyi, this is not editor who created/submitted the draft. The correct editor is User:Evviva but for some reason, the AfC script is picking Evviva~enwiki. See the discussion at User talk:Nahida#Christine Cockley where the same issue is occurring. S0091 (talk) 15:24, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Noting log for User:Evviva log which has them registering 19:09, 5 May 2025. S0091 (talk) 15:31, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Huh, that's weird. In both cases the old account was renamed to *~enwiki just over ten years ago. Is there something in the system that allows the name to be usurped after ten years have passed?
- What am I even asking... I don't understand any of this anyway. I'll crawl back in my box. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 15:39, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- @DoubleGrazing lol, I don't quite get it either. Pinging @Cabayi who handles rename requests and might understand what is going on. Cabayi, in this example way back in 2015 User:Evviva was renamed to User:Evviva~enwiki but now we have a new editor who registered as User:Evviva a couple days ago (log). User:Nahida is a bit more complex as they registered as User:Alisosi then renamed to User:Nahida ([1]). Their AfC notices are going to User talk:Nahida~enwiki. S0091 (talk) 15:56, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Ooh, some wiki-archaeology. Thanks S0091, it's before your time but DoubleGrazing has been around long enough to possibly remember. Here's my best attempt at reading the clues.
- In the beginning user accounts were local to each project. Then there was a period starting around 2008 in which users could choose to unify their local accounts into a global account and optionally use a userbox {{User SUL Box}} to show that they had done so. Finally in 2015 duplicated (non-unified) account names were renamed by appending a suffix, ~enwiki, ~dewiki etc to the lesser used holders of the name.
- Evviva was "created" on dewiki on 17 March 2015 as a local account, though their contributions on dewiki show that they were around in May 2014.
- Evviva~enwiki was "created" on enwiki on 21 April 2015 as a local account, though the note from Keegan above shows this account existed prior to 19 March 2015. The account has never edited.
- The dewiki Evviva, being older and having made some edits won the rights to the name in the username unification in 2015, and became the global account.
- It seems quite probable that the dewiki user, curious about SUL through the notes left by Keegan, signed onto enwiki creating the enwiki user. Curiosity satisfied, they weren't bothered when the enwiki account got renamed to Evviva~enwiki the next day.
- The current local enwiki Evviva user was created when the dewiki local user (the global user) came here for the first time a couple of days ago. Cabayi (talk) 21:31, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- Wow, that's really interesting, thanks @Cabayi!
- And no chance I would have remembered, even if I had known that at the time, which I probably didn't. I can barely remember what I had for dinner last night. Wait, did I have dinner last night...? DoubleGrazing (talk) 05:39, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
