Question from MMcD Investigator (18:45, 4 July 2025)

[edit]

Hello, I would like to submit a draft article for consideration by Wikipedia. It is a short biographical entry for a publicly known and well-accomplished person. I do know this person, but I am unpaid and the article was not solicited by its subject. I do believe that the Wikipedia community would benefit from the draft becoming an article, however. I have the article draft prepared. It is in appropriate Wikipedia format with inline references. How can I proceed? --MMcD Investigator (talk) 18:45, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You will have go through AfC because you only have one edit, so use the Article wizard. Since you know the person, make sure to read WP:COI and ensure you are in compliance. đŸȘ· nahida 18:49, 4 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I am on it.
I have to say that I tried AFC but it initially went nowhere.
I got this:
<<Wikipedia does not have a user page with this exact title. In general, this page should be created and edited by User:MMcD Investigator. To start a page called User:MMcD Investigator, type in the box below. When you are done, preview the page to check for errors and then publish it.>>
So I populated my user page with a minimal bio and so forth, The I tried again. Then I tried editing a page as noted here below. I will try again.
<<FYI: I attempted to assist with a Wikipedia article that needs editing ("too much information") but the person has not yet responded. I used to write a monthly culture column with 3,000,000 readers (in the 1990s) and I have authored over 80 articles on art, engineering, design, and architecture. I was also a contributing editor at several magazines. I have also taught and lectures continually since 1974 I would love to be helpful.>>
I will let you know how my reboots go. But if I have messed up somewhere doing what I did above, please let me know. MMcD Investigator (talk) 15:21, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

MMcDInvestigator recurrent failure.

[edit]

OK, so I tried the article wizard and got this:

Wikipedia does not have a user page with this exact name. Before creating this page, please see Wikipedia:Subpages.

OK:So far, everything I do, despite using the EXACT user name I registered with Wikipedia, is a total dead end.

I cannot get to AFC. I cannot get into or practice in my sandbox. My User Page remains unrecognized (but it shows as OK when I work on it). I cannot submit anything.

The only thing that has worked so far is you, for which I am grateful

Can you assist? MMcD Investigator (talk) 15:28, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Strange. That is your user name though, so the issue is you haven't created your sandbox page yet. The article wizard goes through Draft namespace, so you don't actually need your sandbox, but of course you can always use it. đŸȘ· nahida 16:39, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from RicardReis (15:32, 5 July 2025)

Hi Nahida, Just starting with Wikipedia - I will do my best to make easy edits first. Any suggestions will be welcome! With best regards, Ricard --RicardReis (talk) 15:32, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Continued inability to interact with Wikipedia

[edit]

I have now attempted everything that you have suggested and nothing works.

So, in desperation, I tried another approach. I created a Draft Article on s this page (see link below), which is based on months of research and it absolutely valid. This person and his work is widely recognized internationally (including by the United Nations and the Smithsonian Institution) and he is widely published. Wikipedia now seems to call for me to acknowledge that this is AFC. I do. Yes it is AFC. And I would LOVE to do that within Wikipedia's protocols but so far I cannot because Wikipedia does not acknowledge my account nor will it let me do anything that sticks. I have tried dozens of times to follow your suggested prompts but they fail every time. All I get is error messages saying that I cannot do what you recommend or that my account does not exist. It also asks for in line references which I would be happy to provide (I have them) but I have no idea how to do that.

Can you (or someone) asist?

See DRAFT article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Draft:David_W._Johnson_(archaeologist)&action=edit MMcD Investigator (talk) 20:19, 5 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not extremely technically proficient to know why it would be saying your account doesn't exist, so I would take it to the Teahouse. Someone there may be able to help you. đŸȘ· nahida 02:58, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Nahida,

You put a rather harsh warning notice on User talk:27.125.244.143 about a nasty message placed on this User talk page. However, this editor didn't post that message, it was by another IP account who is now blocked. Please be sure when you are leaving warnings that you are targeting the correct editor. This can be tricky when dealing with IP accounts but it's important to not confuse the innocent account. Thanks for all of your contributions! Liz Read! Talk! 03:45, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, my bad. I think I missed the last 4 (the blocked is 27.125.241.xxx, this one was 27.125.244.xxx) in the third part of the IP address and just assumed it was vandalism on the talk page from the IP of that talk page. I'll be more careful next time. đŸȘ· nahida 03:49, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Stefano.massasso on User talk:Stefano.massasso (05:36, 6 July 2025)

[edit]

Hi, How are you? Could you please help me to understand if my page is live? I did not received any updates. Please let me know what i should do otherwise. Thank you. --Stefano.massasso (talk) 05:36, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

In the sense that most people can see it, no. It is a draft. I would advise looking at your talk page as Wikipedia has guidelines regarding autobiographies. đŸȘ· nahida 15:56, 6 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

[edit]
Administrator Elections | Call for Candidates

The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/July 2025/Candidates.

Here is the schedule:

  • July 9–15 - Call for candidates
  • July 18–22 - Discussion phase
  • July 23–29 - SecurePoll voting phase

Please note the following:

  • The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
  • Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for RfA candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
  • The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
  • The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
  • Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.

Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. A separate user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.

If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

You're receiving this message because you signed up for the mailing list. To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the list.
