Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Tropical Storm Wipha (2025), disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Sam Sailor 10:44, 27 August 2025 (UTC) (please ping on reply)[reply]

@Sam Sailor: I'm sorry for this and I'll try not to make this mistake again. However, can you give a more detailed explanation to this? I reviewed my previous edit and some parts didn't actually go like what I expected. EmperorChesser (talk) 11:04, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, Chesser, mistakes happen all the time here, and for most of us. I noticed the article when it popped up in CAT:MISSFILE. As part of your edit, you had changed the spelling of the file link File:Victoria Harbour during Wipha-20250720.png to File:Victoria Harbor during Wipha-20250720.png. If date format and language variety have already been established in an article, there needs to be good arguments for changing them, see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Spelling. Did this help? Sam Sailor 11:33, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I guess I forgot to change the links and the file name, which caused the error. Thank you so much!
(P/S Sorry for the reply, I was studying) EmperorChesser (talk) 12:26, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
And you still not can change the date format. Read the links I posted. What script(s) are you using? Sam Sailor 12:33, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean by script? Also, I'm not being stubborn here, but I was trying to change what I previously hadn't looked at. You were too fast, giving me zero chance to fix them. I read everything you wrote, I checked everything before I published but realized not all of them were resolved. EmperorChesser (talk) 12:35, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not change date formats that have already been established. Again, see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers. Sam Sailor 12:41, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've read the MoS about dates and numbers, but still didn't quite understand because of the large information. After all, I've seen a person changing the date formats in another article, and they didn't get in any trouble (I have a diff as proof). EmperorChesser (talk) 12:50, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sam Sailor: I've had ChatGPT summarize the page for me, and here's my judgment. In articles about West Pacific typhoon seasons, they set the MoS to {{use mdy dates}}. So I think this should apply to all articles about storms in the Western Pacific basin, because, it should be unified right? I want your respective so that I won't get confused next time. EmperorChesser (talk) 12:58, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The article talk page would be the right place to start a discussion about changing the date format from {{use dmy dates}} to {{use mdy dates}} per WP:BRD. Sam Sailor 13:05, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

And when I can surely change the English accent and date format? I guess I have to wait until at least someone agrees right? EmperorChesser (talk) 13:08, 27 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, Chesser. I wish to apologize: I was wrong to begin with, regarding the date format in those typhoon articles.
Since the IP jumper won't stop, I filed a report with the admin who blocked them a week ago on another IP address. It can be seen at User talk:Materialscientist#Block evading proxy-blocked IP (permalink).
All the best, Sam Sailor 20:24, 29 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Maybe User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates would have your interest?
That would be so good. They keep saying nonsense (to me) and I'm so annoyed. EmperorChesser (talk) 01:27, 30 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Keep a lookout for 42.200.10.248 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) today. Best, Sam Sailor 08:27, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I've seen them reverting some of my edits; even some of my grammar changes were undone. May be it's the same person that has been blocked twice. EmperorChesser (talk) 08:35, 6 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sam Sailor: Should I change the date formats and spellings in Draft:Typhoon Ragasa? You changed it and nothing happened. Also keep an eye on an IP address that start with 207… or something. EmperorChesser (talk) 06:21, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Sam Sailor: Hey? Are you there? EmperorChesser (talk) 11:45, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Here are my suggestions for a strategy moving forward:

  1. Check the checkbox at Preferences → Gadgets → Browsing → Tick Twinkle: add menu buttons to automate common tasks, including: reporting vandalism, warning vandals, requesting deletion or protection, welcoming users, and tagging articles (preferences) and,
  2. Check the checkbox at Preferences → Gadgets → Advanced → Tick Install scripts without having to manually edit JavaScript files (documentation) and click Save.
  3. Visit User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates.js and click "Install" at the top of the page.

Make sure it is them. Some of the known ranges are

If they make their hallmark changes to date format and spelling from a new range, make a note of it in a designated location. You can create subpages in your own user space (almost) to your heart's desire. Or note the new range in this thread so I see it as well.

In cases where the block-evading IP-jumper only has made disruptive and recent MOS:DATEVAR and MOS:ENGVAR changes, then

  1. Either use normal WP:UNDO or undo using WP:TWINKLE to revert their edit(s). The edit summary could e.g. read Reverted disruptive [[MOS:DATEVAR]] and [[MOS:ENGVAR]] changes made by [[WP:BE|block evading]] IP. Initial report is found at [[Special:Permalink/1309639574#Block evading proxy-blocked IP]].
  2. Making a further dummy edit to the page in question makes it harder for the IP to start edit warring.
  3. Open the IP's talk page. If you used Twinkle in step 1, it will open in a new tab.
If using Twinkle, choose TW from the menu, choose Warn, Single-issue warnings, {{uw-multipleIPs}}.
If you prefer to do it manually, use
    == {{subst:CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{subst:CURRENTYEAR}} ==
    {{subst:uw-multipleIPs}} ~~~~
    {{subst:Shared IP advice}}

with an edit summary like e.g. Warning [[WP:BE|block evading]] IP. Initial report is found at [[Special:Permalink/1309639574#Block evading proxy-blocked IP]].
  4. Go to Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism
Place the following at the bottom of the User-reported section:
    * {{Vandal|INSERT IP}}. The latest IP used by block-evading IP-jumper back at making disruptive [[MOS:DATEVAR]] and [[MOS:ENGVAR]] changes against consensus. "Master" is 218.250.114.83 {{userlinks-abbr|218.250.114.83}}; multiple other sock IPs have already been blocked, e.g.
    : 218.250.200.1 {{userlinks-abbr|218.250.200.1}} (3 months)
    : 112.120.27.139 {{userlinks-abbr|112.120.27.139}} (3 months)
    : 124.217.188.3 {{userlinks-abbr|124.217.188.3}} (3 months)
    : 124.217.188.248 {{userlinks-abbr|124.217.188.248}} (3 months)
    : 119.236.159.150 {{userlinks-abbr|119.236.159.150}} (12 months).{{br}}If details are needed, see [[User talk:Materialscientist#Block evading proxy-blocked IP]] ([[Special:Permalink/1309639574#Block evading proxy-blocked IP|permalink]]). ~~~~

and remember to replace INSERT IP with the IP you are reporting. If more than one IP is reported, it could look like:
    * {{Vandal|118.143.12.197}} and {{Vandal|203.145.94.117}} and {{Vandal|218.250.5.243}}. The latest IPs used by block-evading IP-jumper back at making disruptive [[MOS:DATEVAR]] and [[MOS:ENGVAR]] changes against consensus. "Master" is 218.250.114.83 {{userlinks-abbr|218.250.114.83}}; multiple other sock IPs have already been blocked, e.g.
    : 218.250.200.1 {{userlinks-abbr|218.250.200.1}} (3 months)
    : 112.120.27.139 {{userlinks-abbr|112.120.27.139}} (3 months)
    : 124.217.188.3 {{userlinks-abbr|124.217.188.3}} (3 months)
    : 124.217.188.248 {{userlinks-abbr|124.217.188.248}} (3 months)
    : 119.236.159.150 {{userlinks-abbr|119.236.159.150}} (12 months).{{br}}If details are needed, see [[User talk:Materialscientist#Block evading proxy-blocked IP]] ([[Special:Permalink/1309639574#Block evading proxy-blocked IP|permalink]]). ~~~~

In cases where either (a) the block-evading IP-jumper has made edits that are worth keeping, but includes MOS:DATEVAR and MOS:ENGVAR changes, or (b) other editors have made recent edits that prevent you from undoing, then

  1. Run MOSNUM dates
  2. Check for the usual British English spellings, you know them better than I, favour -> favor, centre -> center (except for that Japanese center that is titled Centre), -ised -> -ized, etc. etc.
  3. and 4. as above.

I have reported the three IP addresses they have used today.

In some cases, when they are very persistent, it may be worth asking for page protection. If using Twinkle, choose TW from the menu when you are on the article that needs protection, choose RPP (=Request Page Protection), scroll down to "Disruptive editing (semi)", and choose Temporary. Best, Sam Sailor 20:27, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that is such great advices! Thank you, and I will be implementing this every time I edit. EmperorChesser 23:23, 28 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Happy to help. Beginning today, they have edited from 49.130.0.0/16; I have updated the list of ranges above. Sam Sailor 08:44, 29 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing hoaxes, such as Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo (2025), is considered to be vandalism and is prohibited. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method would be to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia—and then to correct them if possible. If you would like to make test edits, please use the sandbox. Under section G3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion. Repeated vandalism may result in the loss of editing privileges.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Matmo

[edit]

[2][3] Could we reach some sort of agreement or compromise that we work together to bring the draft to article status? (Please respond here to keep things in one place.) 124.217.189.70 (talk) 16:46, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I guess. But before that, just stop switching the draft's title. Your original draft already violated some rules (before reading this, remember that it is NOT my words. I copied it from User:MAS0802).
Unfortunately, your draft is violated the rules. Because you did the draft too early (before JMA upgraded). Secondly, the title is also wrong when I seen is Typhoon Matmo, but it hasn't strengthening into TY yet. But you did, that also violated the rules at the same time. Thirdly, the dmy format is actually wrong, many IP users will use DMY format, but we still use MDY. So do not change anything format until the suggestion is agree by many people.
That's why when I first created Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo (2025), I made it too quickly and it was marked as a hoax and speedily deleted, leading me to having to name the draft Draft:Tropical Depression Paolo (2025). And then no one except MAS0802 seemed to have read my announcement or something (this is only my guess, I'm uncertain abt this), then you went on to create these drafts.
So for now, before we reach some sort of agreement, stop changing the draft's title and location. In my opinion, Matmo can become a typhoon, so we just kept it like that and see what happens next. If it doesn't, we will discuss this some day later. EmperorChesser 23:28, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
PS My guess is from the JMA's forecast issued 21:00 UTC on October 2. EmperorChesser 23:30, 2 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]
So hey, please do not redirect the page to Draft:Tropical Storm Matmo, please. It feels annoying. I have been trying to tell you, but only now do I have time.
Why? Look above. And read it before you do anything. If you keep doing that, I might have to perform some further actions.
