  2. vigilantcosmicpenguin (submissions) – 229 points, back with a number of articles on abortion in various African countries.
  3. simongraham (submissions) – 213 points, mainly from GAs on species of jumping spiders in both Africa and Azerbaijan.

About your DCWC submission

[edit]

Hey Coeusin, thanks for taking part in the Developing Countries WikiContest! For scoring purposes, submissions need to be made under one flag. Could you pick one country you'd like to submit Pikysyry campaign under and update your page accordingly? Let me know if you have any questions about this! TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 04:35, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@TechnoSquirrel69, thanks for the heads up! I removed the excess countries. Coeusin (talk) 12:03, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Where do you get your sources from?

[edit]

I saw that you cited a work called: "La Segunda República Paraguaya" in one of Torimem's sandboxes. The book's pretty obscure online, did you find it in a library or something? I have plans to start working on a page on Paraguay's interwar history (1870-1932), and I'd like to use it as a source. Avocadopiu (talk) 07:02, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Avocadopiu, I sent you an email. Good luck on the article! Coeusin (talk) 10:43, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Damn, thanks. By any chance would you have any books on Higinio Morínigo or on a full history of Paraguay? (For me, full histories of Paraguay have been really hard to find, I've only managed to find one that was made in 2010 called "Nueva Historia del Paraguay", and that one has a new 2020 edition anyways) Avocadopiu (talk) 11:46, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'll send you a few further on your e-mail. Warren's Informal History is really good despite its age, he's probably my favorite historian on Paraguay. On Morínigo specifically I don't have anything, but I'll transcribe the citation from Hilton's Who's Who in Lat. Am. that I added to his article a while ago:
"MORÍNIGO, Higinio, ex-President of Paraguay, army officer; b. Paraguarí, Jan. 11, 1897; s. Juan A. Morínigo and Pabla Martínez; ed. Colegio Nacional de Asunción; Escuela Militar, 1916-19; dr. honoris causa, Fordham Univ., USA., and Escola de Comércio e Ciências Econômicas, Brazil; m. Dolores Ferrari; children-Higinio, Juan, Guillermo. Carreer: Dir., Escuela de Aspirantes a Oficiales de Reserva, 1932; comdt., infantry regt. no. 14 Cerro Corá; chief of staff, 1st army corps; chief of general staff; minister of interior, 1939; minister of war and navy; Provisional President of the Republic, 1940, President 1943-48. Decorations: (all cited in article). Author: Las Fuerzas armadas, su objeto y su organización en la paz, 1938; Plan trienal, 1940; Plan quinquenal, 1943; also newspaper articles. Address: Mburubichá Roga, Av. Mariscal López 1738-42, Asunción, Paraguay." Coeusin (talk) 12:11, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Avocadopiu, I've sent you that e-mail. (on a sidenote, this might also be of use.) Also, I would recommend checking Bibliography of Paraguay, it somewhat extensively lists books on Paraguayan history. Do you have the Nueva Historia digitized? If so, could you send it to me? Thanks! I got my hands on Gomes Freire Esteves's Historia contemporánea del Paraguay a few weeks ago, I'll see if I can scan it. Coeusin (talk) 12:19, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
https://annas-archive.org/md5/25f06419086ad90c010f01ec9c2c682f The servers aren't responding right now, but they should be up in a while. Also there is a book on Higinio Morínigo, Higinio Morínigo, El Soldado-Dictador. (2011) By Carlos Gómez Florentín, unfortunately it's pretty obscure, I don't have it. Avocadopiu (talk) 12:31, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
These kinds of books by Paraguayan publishers are really hard to find. I have a trip to Paraguay scheduled in a few months, I'll keep an eye out for a copy. Coeusin (talk) 14:22, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've noticed that most books on South American history written in their native language are generally pretty obscure. On the topic of the bibliography page on Paraguay, would you happen to have a copy of "historia del paraguay: desde la independencia hasta nuestros días"? It's the first book listed in the history section. Avocadopiu (talk) 14:34, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'll ask Fabian if he has it digitized. Coeusin (talk) 14:44, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
How many Digital Scans do you have of books on Paraguayan history? It'd probably be annoying for me to ask you one at a time if you had a book or not, so, sorry if this sounds outrageous, but could you send me uh, all of it.....? (You don't have to send everything at once.) Avocadopiu (talk) 14:49, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I laughed when I read the message, thanks! I truthfully did not mind because I am set on sharing most of it eventually, so this is a step on that direction. I did not have time to really filter through my folders, so you'll find that roughly 1/4 of the texts are not on Paraguay. I added them on 3 zip files to the folder I sent you earlier. The file names will be unhelpful. Cheers, Coeusin (talk) 16:02, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Wow....um, sorry but, maybe I'll just ask individually then.
1) Do you have "Chronica Historia illustrata del Paraguay" by various authors (1994)
2) Historia política del Paraguay by Miguel Ángel Pangrazio (2000)
3) Historia del Paraguay contemporáneo by Osvaldo Kallsen (1983)
4) Los Presidentes del Paraguay by Amaral Raúl
5) Historia política del Paraguay by Bordón F. Arturo (1976)
6) Una relación completa. Paraguay y Brasil, Doratiato, Francisco (1889-1954)
Sorry if this takes a long time, IMO, Paraguay's history has a lot of bibliography, just that 90% of it is stupidly obscure. Avocadopiu (talk) 16:23, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Out of these I only have the last one, in Portuguese, in Bibliografia2 (Relacoes_Brasil-Paraguai...). The first one iirc was just a compilation made by ABC Color and not that reliable. Kallsen is good, and Raúl Amaral is thorough, I read them in paper at the Biblioteca Nacional a long time ago. Maybe check Portal Guarani? Coeusin (talk) 16:43, 15 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have anything on the History of Paraguay from 1935-1948? I find that to be a pretty under documented part of Paraguayan history. Only book I could find about this period and get access to was "The good neighbor policy and authoritarianism in Paraguay" An English book by Grow, Michael (1981). Avocadopiu (talk) 04:09, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I wish I could read more on the 1947 civil war, for instance. The only book I can think of that I have is the one by Doratioto that you asked for earlier, it goes until 1954. Coeusin (talk) 10:21, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Have you heard of or have Compendio de historia paraguaya by Julio César Chaves? Avocadopiu (talk) 14:57, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have that one. Chaves is famous but his work is dated. I was thinking about the books you'd asked me for earlier, however, and may have some stuff for you. Raúl Amaral - BVP - ANR digital library - researching post-war Paraguay is not for the faint of heart :) (also, I received your email, thanks!) Coeusin (talk) 15:17, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Would you happen to have read any of Mary Monte de López's books on Paraguayan history? She's made quite a lot on the interwar period as well as a general history. Avocadopiu (talk) 14:10, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, yes! I have this, it has some pretty unique stuff. Coeusin (talk) 14:33, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Would you happen to have any digital copies of her books? Avocadopiu (talk) 14:35, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Besides the one I just sent above, I don't think so. Coeusin (talk) 14:36, 24 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ferrocarriles, conspiraciones y negocios en el Paraguay, 1910-1914 by Juan Carlos and Herken-Krauer. Avocadopiu (talk) 14:36, 26 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Juan Carlos Herken Krauer. Yes, actually! I only have it in paper though, and its lent to a friend. I'll try to retrieve it when I meet him by the end of September, and if I can I'll scan it. Cheers, Coeusin (talk) 15:10, 26 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Coeusin, thanks for participating in the Developing Countries WikiContest. I've had to decline your review of 2013 Radda airstrike as it is too short to be eligible under the scoring rules; apart from the checklist template and a few general criterion passes, there were only a few prose-related comments.
