Commas and Wikipedia
[edit]It seems like you've been doing a bit of copyediting related to commas, and in some cases have been adding them when they're not really needed. You might, therefore, want to take a look a MOS:COMMA to familiarize yourself with how Wikipedia's Manual of style handles commas. In particular, you might want to take a look at MOS:SERIAL and WP:ENGVAR. In addition, commas aren't always required to be added before a coordinating conjunction (and, but, or, etc.) and really only should be added when the conjuction is connecting two independent clauses; in other words, a comma shouldn't really be used unless the clauses preceding and following the conjuction are capable of standing on their own as independent sentences (i.e. each clause has it's own subject and verb). A comma should be used when a sentence begins with a dependent clause, but one shouldn't really be used when the dependent clause comes after a conjuction. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:02, 18 May 2025 (UTC)
