Request reason:

I was blocked for 24 hours for edit warring on the Nizar Qabbani article. My edits were intended to prevent repeated unsourced changes by another editor (User:Turkiishh) who has been adding false claims of Turkish nationality to Syrian non-Turkish notable figures. These edits are not supported by reliable sources and alter well-documented cultural identities, which I believe violates Wikipedia’s verifiability and neutrality policies. I acknowledge that reverting repeatedly was not the correct way to handle the situation and will instead address this on the talk page in the future. Requesting review of this block in light of the context and ongoing vandalism. The Admind Mr: ‪Discospinster‬ who, I believe, did not block the other editor (User:Turkiishh) who initiated the edit warring by repeatedly adding unsourced and incorrect claims of Turkish nationality to Syrian and other non-Turkish notable figures.

Decline reason:

Content disputes are not WP:VANDALISM. I see no evidence you have ever tried to use the article talk page to resolve this dispute. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 20:57, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Please provide diffs of the unsourced edits you reverted; I've examined some of your recent edits and the edits had sources. 331dot (talk) 18:41, 8 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request – Reverting persistent unsourced vandalism by “Turkiishh”

[edit]

AAANDA (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I was reverting persistent, unsourced vandalism by the user "Turkiishh," who has repeatedly added false claims of Turkish origin to prominent Syrian figures, including Nizar Qabbani and Said al-Ghazzi. Nizar Qabbani was Syrian by birth and citizenship, and Said al-Ghazzi was from Damascus, from one of its most prominent families; his surname relates to a historical profession connected to Gaza — not Turkish ancestry. My intent was solely to preserve factual accuracy, not to engage in an edit war. I now understand that repeated reverts can be seen as edit warring, even when addressing vandalism, and in the future I will raise the issue on the article’s Talk page or request administrator intervention instead. I request that the block be reconsidered in light of the good-faith intent and the pattern of disruptive editing I was addressing. AAANDA (talk) 21:03, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

This is exactly why you blocked the previous time. Content disputes are not WP:VANDALISM. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 21:33, 9 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I understand I am currently blocked for edit warring. However, I would like to request that another editor open a discussion on the Talk page of the Nizar Qabbani article regarding a nationality dispute. An editor has repeatedly changed Qabbani’s nationality from Syrian to Turkish without providing sources. This change is factually incorrect and misrepresents a key biographical detail. Reliable sources clearly state he was born in Damascus, Syria, including: – The Independent (“Nizar Qabbani was born in Damascus in 1923”) – PoemHunter (“Nizar Qabbani, born in Damascus, Syria”) – Fenshop Blog (mentions Qabbani’s birth in Damascus) – Translation of Nizar Qabbani: Reference for Students in Applied Criticism – p. 175 (identifies Qabbani as Syrian). I request that the article be restored to state that Nizar Qabbani was Syrian, and that future edits on this point be based on reliable sources. Please also consider temporary page protection to prevent further unsourced changes.
