Usage
[edit]Use this template to create references to hurdat entries. There are two parameters, year and id, that provide the year and storm number of the storm. This produces a <ref>-style reference for it. It has to be used with subst: (not sure if this is a bug or not).
Move/Rename?
[edit]Perhaps this should be renamed to {{template:Hurdat-ATL}} as there is also an eastern Pacific HURDAT. As a matter of fact, similar templates could be made for other basins (for example, {{template:Hurdat-WPac}} for the western Pacific). Doing this would extend the benefits of this template (such as not having to update dozens of best track reference links and titles every year) to other basins. Thoughts? - It would be good to get templates set up for the BT databases for the Easy Hurdat, EPAC Hurdat, JMA, NIO, BOM, (AUS/SHEM) and SPAC BTS and i would agree with the renaming of this template but not to Hurdat-ATL as i think Atlantic Hurdat is better.Jason Rees (talk) 15:07, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
- Agreed, it'd be great if we had this for every basin. Maybe rename it {{Atlantic best track}}, {{EPAC best track}}, and stuff? HURDAT itself only refers to Atlantic basin hurricane database, as per the HURDAT website. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 15:44, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- That sounds good.Jason Rees (talk) 15:47, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
- Moved and created one for the epac (EPAC hurricane best track)
- I thought we already had a template for the Atlantic best track. I remember using it in 2008, and I don't think this was its name. Thegreatdr (talk) 16:52, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yea, it was [1], which was moved here (still a redirect here for the old ones). --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 16:58, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ok. Just making sure. Thegreatdr (talk) 17:23, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Harvard cite issues possibly stemming from this Template
[edit]Hurricanehink & Jason Rees - Please see discussion at Talk:Effects of the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane in Florida at Harv warning on Ref #2. I guess there's a possible Harv warning/cite issue? I am not adept at coding and such and would welcome any additional insight. Thanks - Shearonink (talk) 18:07, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
- CapeVerdeWave. Jason Rees. - This template is causing Harv/sfn errors. If I have to fix it so it won't I will certainly try but, so far as I can tell, you two are the experts on this Template. Please see Talk:Effects of the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane in Florida#Harv warning on Ref #2 for proposed fixes. I promise you, if some of the folks around here who code, like you two, correct the Sfn issues, the whole process of getting this Template corrected won't take nearly as long as when I do it. Seriously. - Shearonink (talk) 03:59, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- Shearonink I, sadly, am not a coder; while I do edit templates, I only fix simple errors. However, I have made some changes to this one, so please let me know whether the issue has gone away. CapeVerdeWave (talk) 04:23, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
- The issue has not gone away. I am opening a Template sandbox at Template:Atlantic hurricane best track/sandbox to try to fix the issue. I am going to try to implement the suggestions at Talk:Effects of the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane in Florida#Harv warning on Ref #2. And I am so much not a coder but oh well, I'm the one who's gonna try I guess... - Shearonink (talk) 15:25, 26 July 2025 (UTC)
