Proposal for bringing page up-to-date

[edit]

This page doesn’t seem to have been updated for quite some time. I am an employee of the company and I’d appreciate the guidance of uninvolved editors. I was advised by WhiteHatWiki. Thanks for your help.

1. What I think should be changed:

Please replace the second sentence of the first paragraph of the History section:

Rauch had previously created the realtime event-driven communication library Socket.IO.[1]

Change to:

Rauch had previously created the realtime event-driven communication library Socket.IO[1] and Next.js, the open source framework that Vercel optimized for their platform. [2]

Reason:

The page is currently missing information about Next.js, which is a keystone technology of the company. This article is highly technical, comparable to similar pages about software companies which are GAs,

2. What I think should be changed:

Please add a sentence to become the new second sentence of the second paragraph of the History section:

In 2023, Vercel released an AI web development tool called v0 that creates web applications with natural language prompts;[3] it won a 2025 Webby Award for developer tools.[4]

Reason:

Adding information about the company based on reporting in a well-regarded reliable source to help bring the section up-to-date.

3. What I think should be changed:

Please add the following to become the new third sentence of the second paragraph of the History section:

In 2023, Vercel released a software development kit called AI SDK[5] designed to allow developers to build conversational streaming interfaces in JavaScript and TypeScript.[6]

Reason:

Adding updated information about the company products in line with the highly technical nature of the rest of the page, comparable to similar pages about software companies which are GAs,

4. What I think should be changed:

Please add a sentence to become the new fourth sentence of the second paragraph of the History section:

In May 2024, Vercel raised $250 million in a funding round which valued the company at $3.25 billion.[3]

Reason:

Updates older information about valuation in the article, reported by a well-regarded source, Reuters.

5. What I think should be changed:

Please add the following to become the new third paragraph of the Architecture section:

In 2025, Vercel introduced a web application infrastructure model called Fluid that enables an instance in a local region to handle multiple requests concurrently, similar to a traditional server, while also maintaining the elasticity of serverless systems.[7]

Reason:

Adding information about new developments in the company’s technology based on reporting in a reliable source. Again, in line with the highly technical nature of this page and similar pages which are GAs, like NeXT and GNOME Web.

6. What I think should be changed:

Please replace the first paragraph of the lead section:

Change from:

Vercel Inc., formerly ZEIT,[8] is an American cloud platform as a service company. The company maintains the Next.js web development framework.[9]

Change to:

Vercel is an American cloud application company. The company created and maintains the Next.js web development framework.[2]

Reason:

Rewriting to reflect that the company has expanded to become more than a Platform as a service provider. While it’s still an important aspect of the company, the content I’ve proposed to the body of the article about its frontend development and serverless architecture should establish that its central functionality is well beyond platform as service.

Removed the company’s corporate formal corporate designation (Inc.) because it a) is referenced as Vercel in all of the cited sources, not Vercel Inc and b) it is uncommon for Good Articles about businesses to include the corporate form (e.g. Inc., LLC, GmbH) in the name of the company. See CSG International and Salesforce Marketing Cloud.

7. What I think should be changed:

Please move the second paragraph of lead section to become the new first paragraph of the architecture section:

Vercel's architecture is built around composable architecture, and deployments are handled through Git repositories, the Vercel CLI, or the Vercel REST API. Vercel is a member of the MACH Alliance.

Reason:

The paragraph describes highly technical information about the company’s architecture that is more appropriate in a section with details about their technology. This info does not yet appear in the body of the article, even though it’s central enough that someone thought it should appear in the lead.

8. What I think should be changed:

Please add a paragraph to become the new second paragraph of the lead section:

Vercel provides developer tools, frameworks, and cloud infrastructure to build and maintain websites.[10] It is the maker of v0[3] and AI SDK.[11] The company maintains a free open-source library for building AI-generated products.[12]

Reason:

Suggesting a more up-to-date foundational description of what the company does based on content proposed to the body of the article.

Thank you for reading over these suggested edits. YCJST2015 (talk) 14:46, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
