Year 2024, may. Russia and other former Soviet states recognised Taliban as legitimate regime of Afghanistan and removed the taliban from terrorist list. So please remove Russia and other Soviet countries from the list

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 19:59, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Alleged"

[edit]

Why does it say "alleged" persecution of women?, Afghanistan has most likely the worst women's rights record in the world, there's nothing "alleged" here

Did the Nazis "allegedly" persecute the Jews too? Consistently Heinous (talk) 19:51, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Read the citation the text is citing.
"“Senior Taliban leaders are now wanted men for their alleged persecution of women, girls, and gender-nonconforming people,” Liz Evenson, the group’s international justice director, said in a statement." [1] Noorullah (talk) 23:55, 16 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I've moved the sentence to its own sub-section in the Oppression of Women section. Putting it in the lead like that is WP:RECENTISM - undoubtedly it's going to grow as the ICC case develops and it will just end up mushrooming in the lead. When the case outcome is known that may warrant a sentence in the lead. DeCausa (talk) 11:11, 17 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Claim of Cultural Genocide

[edit]

The introductory description states "The Taliban committed a cultural genocide against Afghans by destroying their historical and cultural texts, artifacts and sculptures."

This sentence is repeated two times in the "Condemned practices" section and has it's own subsection there.

The source for this is a 2001 news article from the Times of India, that states that multiple unnamed Islamic clerics and one named leader call the destruction of statues cultural genocide.

The only other source claiming cultural genocide i found on english-language websites are an Afghan musician.

Cultural genocide is a contested term with no international legal standard, making authoritative statements like this difficult. Especially with sources like these (and you need those, because publishing your own conclusions is not allowed on Wikipedia).

Therefore, i reason it would be better practice to either change the sentence to "Some claim the Taliban committed a cultural genocide ..." or to find better sources. DankeyKangMan (talk) 02:09, 25 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
