Talk:Rex Tillerson

George W. Bush > George H.W. Bush

[edit]

The last paragraph of the introduction mentions Lawrence Eagleburner as George W. Bush’s Secretary of State, but he actually served under George H.W. Bush. It’s also just a clunky paragraph. 207.62.170.223 (talk) 20:26, 10 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

He has also said he'd support a tax on carbon schemes.

[edit]

It's worth reading as it's somewhat weird that he says he supports a tax that he lobbies again... 83.118.219.121 (talk) 09:38, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Update to info

[edit]

Regarding legal battles under the 'Ties with Russia' section 'In July 2017, the U.S. Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control fined ExxonMobil $2 million for violating sanctions in its dealings with Sechin, leading the company to sue the government.'.

This decision was overturned in 2019 as per these sources:

Concern about bias of The Guardian "leak" citation

[edit]

The citation - Harding, Luke; Munzinger, Hannes (December 18, 2016). "Leak reveals Rex Tillerson was director of Bahamas-based US-Russian oil firm". The Guardian. - The headline and text are misleading. Its headline implies that the fact of Tillerson's heading Exxon Neftgas was hidden, and the information only became public from the leak. However, I have seen his role mentioned in a 2004 press release by ExxonMobil here. As such, I'm going to remove it as the citation for his Exxon Neftegas role and replace it with the press release. — ERcheck (talk) 22:13, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
