Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems

Hook eligibility:

  • Cited: Yes
  • Interesting: Yes
  • Other problems: Yes
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Article was created on 10 August 2025, is 711 words (4,344 characters) in prose, and is fully sourced and free of plagiarism. The hook is cited and interesting, and QPQ is done. Main issues with the nomination are down to prose in the article and hook; the article has some unclear prose and grammatical issues that need fixing, and sometimes edges into non-neutrality. The double-use of "alleged" in the first hook could also do with rewriting. Feel free to ping me once these issues have been addressed, and I'll be happy to take another look at the nomination. Did you know? If you fancy doing so, I always have plenty of GA nominees to review. Just look for the all-uppercase titles in the Television section. Reviews always appreciated. This review is part of WP:GARC 49.

Copy changes

[edit]
  • I am unsure if "ouster plot" is a good disambiguator. We lack an article at Ouster plot. I'd probably have preferred Red October plot as a title. I do notice that the media use "ouster plot" quite a bit.
  • I think sentence 1 needs a geographic indicator. Try Red October was an alleged plot to remove Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte.

Background

[edit]
  • Maybe {{main|Presidency of Rodrigo Duterte}} is merited at the top of this section.
  • His presidency was controversial, with his presidency marked Redundant structure. Try His presidency was controversial and marked

Discovery and reactions

[edit]
  • In Davao City, Duterte accused the opposition of creating an ouster plot on September 8.
    • Huge missing context: this and other events are in 2018, but there is no year mention.
    • Try On September 8, 2018, Duterte accused the opposition of plotting to oust him.
  • Duterte accused soldiers of holding discussions with rebel groups like the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and the New People's Army to remove him from office on September 24 Were the discussions held on September 24 or were the accusations then made? Try On September 24, Duterte accused...
  • They said the aim of the government was to "target legitimate protest actions." Remember your MOS:LOGICAL quotes.
  • According to Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III, ... Consider According to Silvestre Bello III, the Secretary of Labor and Employment, ... This avoids the SEAOFBLUE issue and is a more direct link.

Investigation and aftermath

[edit]
  • Why is Chinese person linked? We don't usually link nationalities.
  • Her house was possibly used as a hideout for communist guerillas. This is a statement that demands some attribution in this sentence. The police alleged that her house was possibly used as a hideout for communist guerillas.
  • was trying to "brainwash the students" into taking part in the activities AND A militant youth group responded to the AFP stating that they were "endangering the lives of students" by disclosing the list. These are not quotes of the AFP or the youth group. They're quotes of the newspaper articles, which should be avoided here. The implication right now is that the organizations said these things verbatim when they did not! I think you should specify the militant youth group and use one of the quotes supplied in the article.
  • Department of Defense Secretary Would Secretary of Defense be more concise?
  • The military said that the plot would be moved to December, the 50th founding anniversary of CPP, although CPP President Jose Maria Sison denied these claims. I think, given the source, that "said" is almost too strong. The military claimed instead that the plot would be carried out in December, timed to the 50th anniversary of the CPP, although CPP president Jose Maria Sison denied these claims.
    • Notice that "founding anniversary" is redundant, even though Rappler uses it. So too would be "year anniversary".
  • NEW: Anakbayan, a militant youth group, responded to the AFP stating that they were "endangering the lives of students" by disclosing the list Again, this is a newspaper quote that should be paraphrased.

Sourcing and spot checks

  • [6] checks out, but is "Oplan" (as in source) the same as "Operation"?

@Sammi Brie Forgot about that. 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter") 08:16, 20 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TheNuggeteer: One last newspaper quote issue and I have a minor question about one of the sources, but we're nearly there. I think the general reminder is that there is a lot of hearsay and allegations in this topic area which need to be announced as such. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 18:10, 20 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@TheNuggeteer: Fixed. Oplan is pretty much operation (it is also used in the U.S.). 🍗TheNuggeteer🍗 (My "blotter") 05:28, 21 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
