Talk:Nicole Perlman

Undue

[edit]

Is the third paragraph really necessary here? Seems like all of the 'Gunn' stuff about his self-proclaimed contributions belongs on the Guardians of the Galaxy page and not here. The first two paragraphs seem factual, while the third seems opinion-based and off borderline topic. Mophista (talk) 01:07, 18 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Came here to say the exact same thing. Not only does it seem out of place, but it also seems to take delight in denigrating the subject. I wonder how much of it is actually true. Viriditas (talk) 11:34, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As I expected, some of this material has been challenged.[1] Viriditas (talk) 11:39, 9 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gunn eventually rewrote the script entirely because "it didn’t work" for him; he would use the film The Dirty Dozen (in which the army's worst ex-soldier convicts are sent on a suicide mission) as a reference to convey his ideas of the film to Marvel.[1] Gunn later explained that Perlman's draft was very different from the script he used during filming, including a different story, character arcs and no Walkman; he stated, "In Nicole’s script everything is pretty different... it's not about the same stuff. But that's how the WGA works. They like first writers an awful lot."[2] In August 2012, Marvel Studios hired writer Chris McCoy to rewrite Perlman's script,[3] however, it is unclear what, if any, contribution he had to the final script, since he did not receive production credit.[4]

James Gunn again

[edit]

Should this article contain information about James Gunn? The assertion that James "rewrote the whole script" is just that, an assertion by a party in dispute, common in credit disputes and already heavily covered in the Guardians of the Galaxy article.

The WGA arbitration exists to make a formal determination of whether James "rewrote the whole script." If he had, he would have been awarded sole credit. He wasn't, so that claim was invalidated. This is weird Twitter fanboy beef brought to Wikipedia. This a longstanding dispute that has resulted in a number of edit wars elsewhere and might require limited protections for this article.

@Stevedorex No comment on the dispute itself, but you may want to restart the RfC since the statement presented isn't neutral and will likely get people telling you the same, and the question itself is vague (Should it contain what information about James Gunn?)
