To report an error in content currently or imminently to appear on Main Page, use the appropriate section below. Reports should contain:
- Where is the error? An exact quotation using {{!xt}} of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible using {{xt}}.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 12:25 on 30 September 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Actual errors only. Failures of subjective criteria such as interestingness are not errors.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

[edit]- ... that Marianne Angermann earned a doctorate in chemistry in 1928 at a time when few women pursued higher education in Germany? This may well be true, but isn't actually sourced: it is based (WP:OR) on the fact that on her diploma, the male pronouns were struck through and replaced manually by female ones. All this proves is that the "Realgymnasium Langenberg" didn't have entrance diploma's with female pronouns. The hook is probably right, but essentially unsourced. Fram (talk) 09:41, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- The nom quoted the source saying "Despite the opportunities that had opened up for women in the workplace due to the manpower shortages of the First World War, it was still unusual for young women to complete secondary schooling with the intention of continuing at university." Isn't that explicit? Are you seeing something different? Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 10:00, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- The source itself says on a different page that in 1924, 52 women completed a doctorate in chemistry in Germany, so "few women" is rather relative. Also, the article had the birthplace wrong (different from the source and making it very confusing) so I am not very confident that everything is correct. —Kusma (talk) 10:04, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- The source also says that the percentage of women at German universities rose from 10% in 1918 to 18% in 1931, so "few women" is indeed very relative. In 1922, there were some 8800 female students in Germany, in 1928 this had risen to nearly 13000[1]. Fram (talk) 10:38, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- By 21 centaury (the one we're in and the one the source was written in) standards it is "few women". We don't need to judge the comparison between 1918 and 1931, because we're not in the hypothetical situation of running the hook on Wikipedia in 1931. TarnishedPathtalk 10:56, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

- From my perspective today, I would interpret "few women" in the context of university students in the 1920s as at most ones and twos in each lecture theatre, not c. 15%. So I think that this is indeed somewhat misleading. But maybe the more pertinent point is that the number of women students in the physical sciences was probably a far lower percentage than 15%. JMCHutchinson (talk) 11:59, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- Refer to what FFF quotes above. The source states it was unusual. TarnishedPathtalk 12:21, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
- The point about women's education seems over-familiar now while the pronouns on the certificate seem more interesting. A hook for this might be:
- ALT ... that when Marianne Angermann earned her doctorate in chemistry, the pronouns on her printed diploma were altered manually?
- This does not explain exactly why and this makes it a good hook, I reckon. The reader will click through to find out more...

[edit]Short description is "Wikimedia template"?
[edit]I think it used to be something like "Main page of the English Wikipedia" until a few days ago. It's now "Wikimedia template", at least in the app. ImMrCarZigzag (talk) 04:18, 28 September 2025 (UTC)
