Think this article should be rescoped to be 1948 (potentially 1945, when the USAMGIK was established) and after. Don't think it makes much sense to include events in pre-modern Korea, especially as stats often reflect northern and southern korea together.
The list is also missing famines that killed millions during the Joseon period; see List of famines (I added those to the list a while back). I recommend pre-modern Korea events be split off into a separate list. seefooddiet (talk) 04:12, 31 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
List of disasters for places such as Canada include disasters that occured prior even to European contact. I don't think it's unreasonable to include disasters that occurred within what is now known as South Korea. I feel like all of Korea would pose some issues considering how we get basically no data from North Korea about Typhoons, floods, etc which means that the numbers for death toll would only be those in South Korea while claiming to represent all of Korea. Idk I feel like this list warrant existing on it's own but I think that another list could/should be created as well. Additionally, by death toll lists aren't the same as list of disasters in X, so two can exist at the same time if you want to do one for all of Korea. There's still the issue of what about pre-modern disasters whose statistics cover all of Korea? I think that may annoy some people, who may view this as thinking validating South Korea's territorial claims over the entirety of the peninsula. seefooddiet (talk) 21:10, 2 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to me that the only disaster which this is an issue for is the Spanish Flu. (While Typhoon 3693 happened prior the division of Korea it exclusively affected Southern Korea), so I added a comment mentioning the issue. Qwexcxewq (talk) 22:18, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There are likely many disasters missing from this list, for example the famines I mentioned earlier. Many disasters are poorly attested to in English. seefooddiet (talk) 22:26, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As another note, if we did end up creating a list for North Korea (I'd argue it's possible, using estimates from experts), would we also include events that took place over the whole of Korea? So the two lists would mostly overlap pre-1945? seefooddiet (talk) 22:30, 5 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
