[edit]Remove image of "a women" for new image that shous the occupation in a better way with two engineers of both sexes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Engineeringlife (talk • contribs) 04:11, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- I'm a bit annoyed that the 1st image is of a woman engineer. Recent statistics estimate women make up ~ 20%, a minority, of new engineers - and even less of the field overall (in the USA). So the "typical" engineer is NOT gonna to be wearing a (woman's) suit. But my anti-woke gripe aside, she's holding (quite awkwardly!!) a slide rule while looking at some sort of scrolled up paper (doesn't appear to be a blue print; the paper stock is wrong). So my main complaint is that the gal is obviously in a posed unnatural shot. You need 2 hands to use a slide rule, and for that size diagram (?) you need two hands for that, too. So, no, you're not gonna be walking along doing calculations while holding that big diagram(?). And of course, she has no place to put the slide rule - hint: belt holsters/cases for slide rules were a common sight before the electronic calculator era (ca. 1970). And by the way, I'm sure that the vast majority of engineers work the vast majority of their time in an office. Let's find a better picture of a working engineer. My guess is there's one or two out there (/sarcasm).75.88.138.168 (talk) 19:32, 27 October 2025 (UTC)
