"Living with the World" (Chinese: 和世界做鄰居; pinyin: Hé shìjiè zuò línjū) is a song by Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai, featured on her debut studio album 1019 (1999).[1] The song was written by Chuang Ching-Wen and Ronald Ng, and produced by Peter Lee and Paul Lee. It was the commercial song for Taiwan's 7-Eleven and was released as a single on July 16, 1999, by Universal.[2]

Background

In May 1998, Tsai participated in and won a singing competition produced by MTV Mandarin.[3] In March 1999, she signed with Universal, becoming the company's key new artist of the year.[4] The company arranged weekly dance and makeup lessons to enhance her performance and media presence, and also provided language training. That same year, she was sent abroad to Ireland, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom to observe international performers.[5]

On July 16, 1999, Tsai released her debut single "Living with the World".[2] The song was the annual theme for 7-Eleven commercials in Taiwan and was sold exclusively in 7-Eleven convenience stores.[2] In its second week of release, the single sold over 20,000 copies in Taiwan.[4]

Music video

The music video incorporated footage of rescue efforts following the Jiji earthquake in Taiwan, with Tsai expressing gratitude for the support and aid provided by various sectors of society.[6]
